interesting he is carrying violet, I cant see it on the mum and the dad is grey so bit hard to see it? i thought if they carried it it would show? Def was those two as they are bred in cabinets too Somehow I put myself in the position of having way too many cocks to hens, I couldnt give him to anyone tho just because he looks totally different to the others(dont they all tho hahaha)

Below is a picture of a few of the young I have gott from the following pair, they have thrown some interesting colours, Had one come out all white with a bit of very pale yellow all over her, like a albino but with pale yellow(creamino??) Also had a pure white one but it didnt make it out of the nest. Had mostly greys but one odd colour below Below pics of mum and dad are older ones Dad Mum Yellow face grey cock(I think he is the best of the young but Idont know much about show types) Grey opaline Hen Pied opaline, not sure what colour he seems to be blue and green marked, hes a clutch younger then the other two above Interested if you could tell me exactly what he is? Couple of violet's of the pet variety have been breed The dad was a odd coloured bird(green and blue colour could never figure it out), turns out he was green violet in colour.
  6. fighting vermin like rats and mice is a never ending battle hey. I find mix up the techniques you use to get rid of them, otherwise they become smart to what you use and it doesnt work as well. Use different baits in differenet locations, dont use the same poison as they can build up tolerance to it over generations, have seen this happen when I was using the green tomcat wax blocks, was being eaten but they werent dying, they were loving the free feed though! I changed to ratsak and racuumin(blue paste) and wiped out a family of rats in a matter of days! never had rats before but they had moved ina s the neighbour had cleared his yard. I find flooding mice holes with real hot water effective, they dont come out then.

Kaz you should name the petshop, I imagine bunbury would have more then one petshop those severe mite pics are so bad RSPCA are too busy being a political lobby group to be bothered doing any actual prevention of cruelty nowadays!! They wont get a cent out of me!
  8. Thanks Kaz, will do my best to be there! Should anyone know of anything come up just flick me a message/pm on here

hi all wondering what predators and pests you have to deal with and how you go about managing the issue here predator wise i get the following - hawks (goshawks mainly) - cats pest wise I get mice from time to time, feral doves and have had rats in the past due to a neighbour clearing his yard, they were dealt with but and dont have a problem with them now hawk wise ive put bird netting over mine lately since they have been hanging around a bit, we have quite a few feral doves here and the hawks normally get stuck into them but a few weeks ago we had a hawk kill one of my pieds, he was really game and not scared of ppl at all, i went out at night and flicked on a light and he flew down past the birds and landed on the kids swings!!! My guess is he is a rescue bird.. havent had him bothering me now for bit now so hopefully things go back to normal cats, well they are self explanatory the doves used to be shocking, when we first moved here there were litterally hundreds of them, they are the introduced one, wasnt uncommon to see hawks about a few times a day chasing them, had one take a dove about 12 inches above the missus head one time, that was awesome to see, had another dive into a big bush and come out with one etc mice, well ive been hammering them, generally try to not use poison where i can and will trap before if i can, around the avairys i flood their home and kill them when the come out, its effective but you dont get all of them all the time one thing i have found in the 20 odd years ive been into birds is that for mice control you need to take various methods in controlling them because they will figure out if somethings dangerous, the only thing i have not used is gas really
  12. okay will try and get better photos, she is incredibly difficult to get a photo of!! she is one of those birds that doesnt like the camera im sure! her markings on her wings look spangle to me, but hard to see
  13. Hi all, Me again, here is what I belive is a violet/pied/spangle she would be over a year old now, and has darkened up as she has matured Can anyone advise what she is, if now what I believe her to be.
  14. bok choy, pak choy and silverbeet here love them because you can pick one bit every few days for the birds without having the feast or famine situation you often get with veges where you get it all ready at once
  15. Kaz your too good, how would one tell the difference between skyviolent and cobalt? is there any difference in cheek patches etc? Cant wait till i get a digital SLR, this camera sucks for bird pics!!
  16. Hi guys Need some advice here cos this ones a little bit confusing... got this Pied today to replace a similar colour one I lost to a hawk a few weeks back... thing is im not sure if he is a sky blue or cobalt. He is currently in a breeding cabinet that I have got that I use as a makeshift quarantine cage that is a fair distance from the other birds. Can anyone tell me what he is? My guess for the type is Dominant Pied, he does seem to have a little bit of violet about his face Its a little hard to see but he appears skyblue just in the middle of his front and the rest is cobalt blue.. he has a defined white iris ring as well, if anyone can tell a rough age??

not sure about birds but for training dogs to loud noises you need to start small.. clap from a distance then when they arent stressed by that clap louder, then get closer.. get a $2 cap gun and use that at a distance getting closer.. my dogs are really good with loud noises, thunder etc dont bother them, most of the neighborhood dogs go to town but when we have fireworks/thunder and the like
  18. Getting rid of the cat then I see :) Ozzie is a nice fella
  19. could the newspaper have anything to do with it?
  20. they are stunning Kaz, like them a lot, I dont know much about the "look" of a winning show budgie but they are impressive
  21. unfortunately a lot of vets seem to be more worried about the $ in their pockets then the welfare of animals at times I feed my hounds mostly raw meat and bones and they are doing fine on it, had a vet tell me once if i didnt feed eukanuba my pup would die a horrible death from malnutrition!

you know what would be really good pics showing examples of good and bad traits for those mentioned above.
  23. Kaz, They were bought from a guy who is in kelmscott, he had an add in the quokka for a few weeks a few weeks back. They are the first show budgies Ive ever owned, over the last 20 something years ive had pet type but never show I dont really have any contacts so have been just looking in there, and at pet shops(SwanValleyB'ds and on the weekend Birdsnall) Been looking for a visual violet pied for over 12 months lol, they must be rare because ive never seen any for sale and ideally I want the bigger birds, i'll find them eventually.
  24. Thanks Kaz, good to know shes only a youngun for a bit there I thought he had sold me an old bird. I guess next year will be the season for pairing her up maybe... if I can find something suitable. I did use the flash, I will see what colour it is in the normal light, hard to see but cos it looks red but also gold she has one of the following rings, I tried to PM you about it but not sure if it worked?? the ( might be the wrong way WA P (6 148 RWA )o 017 RWA )o 027 Is there anywhere on the web that explains what the rings mean? I have one from BCV which im assuiming is Budgie club of VIC(only because i was told it came from over vic) and another from SA that came from the VIC breeder as well.
  25. I have seen violet pieds before, I really want one myself for my Daughter, she loves purple and shes really interested in the birds.. well as interested as a 3yo gets
