  1. Your birds are stunning Nubbly I was curious about your fallow pair 19. I was told not to pair fallow-fallow and I'm not sure why. Does it wash out wing markings or something?
  2. Thank you GB and Finnie. Yes, I fostered them immediately between 3 nests. 4 were showing fertile, the 5th was too early to tell.
  3. That has given me an idea. I have made a dozen or so of these swings, I'm going to put one in my quarantine cages. :laughter:
  4. Thanks Kaz. I know these things happen. *trying to stop crying*
  5. I'm so upset because I found a different hen dead this afternoon in the bottom of her breeding cage. Seems she was egg bound She had laid 5 eggs and was due yesterday for number 6. I check all birds 3-4 times a day and nestboxes once a day in the afternoon/evening. She seemed fine and assumed she'd stopped at 5. I feel so angry with myself that I let her die.
  6. He is very cute . When I brought my cavalier home she was only 6weeks old and i gave her a teddy, which she cuddle up to when she slept. Later she had a few more soft toys and she used to feed them. ps. I think Bear is a great name for him.
  7. Thank you so much for your advice Kaz
  8. I have just put her back. The reason I thought she might be egg bound was because she was doing the 'huge' poop's, egg bum and spending most of her time in the nest box but no eggs. That has been going on for a couple of weeks. I guess I was just being paranoid.
  9. Should I put her back in the breeding cage?
  10. My hen (I think) is egg bound. Last week she was doing giant poo's and so I thought she must be due soon. 5 days later still nothing and then another 3 days she was constantly in the nest box. She wasn't fluffed up and her tail wasn't bobbing and she wasn't panting either but she seemed a bit 'off'. So yesterday I took her out and put her in the hospital cage with a warm lamp. I did feel an egg. She is eating and drinking. Have I caused her to become egg bound because i took her out of the breeding cage? I have made an avian vet appointment at 5pm.
  11. Yum. I'd eat that, minus the broccoli Actually the broccoli stalk is really nice raw, I cut the hard outside off and your left with the white centre.

Sorry Nubbly  Thank you Kaz. Probably not the best variety for a beginner but I'm very lucky to have got them. I'll keep a breeding journal when I start pairing them. And thank you birdluv
  13. I agree with Splat. I've seen you in person and I think you are a very pretty lady with a beautiful smile and a kind heart  I get called a 'snob', which is not true. I'm just shy and I hate taking on the phone.
  14. My hen has made a full recovery and is doing great. I think when they flutter about too much it does make injuries worse. I was worried also that she might of spread FM to my other birds but i won't really know until I breed some chicks. Best of luck with her

10 new additions, fallows and splits I picked up yesterday from a club member who is quitting birds. 9 are John Flanagan bred and 1 baby, club member bred. I'm excited but scared because I've been told they are hard to breed, hens are brutal in the nest box(?) and to have foster parents ready. fallow cock 07' and spilt fallow cock 06' split fallow hen 09' and fallow hen 08' fallow hen 10' and fallow hen 07' fallow hen 08' and fallow cock 06' spangle split fallow cock 08' and grey green opaline split fallow hen 10' (8 weeks old) Quarantine
  16. Me too. I'm very glad to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel for you! Good to hear your birds are on the road to recovery.
  17. I'm no expert, but I have experienced a similar thing with a hen I have. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....&hl=rachelm When she was in the aviary and trying to fly it made her flights break and bleed. So I put her in a holding cage until the flights grew back. It took about 5months before she recovered. Hope this helps and she makes a full recovery.
  18. Very sorry for your loss :rip:
