Breeding Pairs.
She spent more time out of the box then in but still went in a couple of times a day and she would throw out all the nesting material.

Breeding Pairs.
No never saw them mate. She only likes this cock. I have never bred with her. She is health and in good condition. The cock bird could be the problem he is an 08 and seems all fired up and ready to go but likes mounting the perches , how long do you give your birds before giving up on them? Cheers

Breeding Pairs.
I have had a pair down for about 6 weeks now and although she has spent a lot of time in the nesting box there's still no eggs so today I put them back in the flight, do you think this was the right decision? They are a bonded pair from the flight and got on great. It's hard to get good birds from a breeder when all there offering are the ones they don't want and just maybe they have problems....... How long should you give a pair before you give up on them? I put another pair down at the same time and they have 3 eggs. I'm thinking I should have started with pet budgies and not show birds because in the past I could breed pet budgies like flies. Geoff

April For Breeding?
Kaz my breeding room is a converted bird aviary which is gal I have added a see through tarp off a hot house to the out side wire, my flight is 3m X 3m made by me out of timber and it's just about fully inclosed, I might just put some pairs in breeding cages to bond over the winter and then when it warms up introduce the nesting boxes, do you think this will be okay? Geoff

Aviary Lights
Im a bit concerned that my birds will get spooked during the night in the aviary, I did try a 7w kids night light but it keep them awake and chirping for many night hours. Does anyone use lights in there aviary at night? I have young kids and they tend to go out near the aviary at night looking for toads etc and I'm worried they will scare them, my wife says where not going to ***** foot around them and the birds will have to put up with it I have one hen on eggs at the moment and she is used to it being dark at 6pm and would a light upset her? Will lights help my birds at night if one of my boys gives them a scare? Thanks, Geoff

It was very well organized, well done to those involved.

Rats!
Hi KAZ, The birds in the aviary are safe, it's the birds that I had on my veranda that weren't unfortunately, the cage was a large bar type and thats where the problem was the rat squeezed through the bars and into the cage. I have had baits out everywhere for weeks, my veranda is usually a safe place and the birds were always covered but it's now a no go zone for my birds. I have put my breeding cages in the aviary with the other birds, I don't know if it will work but at least there safe, I was told that with out the cock bird to fertilize the eggs they will be know good.Cheers Thanks robyn, I will get this rat tonight I have bought a trap and written on it for Aussie, this might sound strange but the boys really want to get even with this monster and this helps them a little.

Rats!
I lost one of my beautiful male budgies today, cry........to make it worse it was one of my breeding pairs (aussie) who my 8 year old Nick found him dead in the bottom of the cage, the bird was ripped apart, not a pretty sight. Candy the hen survived with only a little bit of blood on her from when she flew down to check on her mate. They have been together for a few weeks now and she was spending a lot of time in the nesting box, they were madly in love but now she's all alone, what can I do for her as she might be ready to lay eggs? Watch out for rats people there killers and my goal in life is to kill as many of these beasts as posable. aussie you were the best and Candy and the boys will miss you deeply.

New Pairing
okay I have removed the grey cock bird he would not settle down and the hen was not interested in him at all. I put another male in with her and bingo she was in luv and so was he, they started pruning each other in the first hour or so, maybe these two had a bond already from being in the aviary? He is yellow with green patches. And the grey I put back in the aviary has also found luv wow these little birds really like to choose there own partner, I will put these two in a breeders cage in a week or so. :bliss:

New Pairing
Cool, the hen makes a whoop whoop sound I think thats how it goes hehe does it have anything to do with breeding? Sorry for all the questions

New Pairing
Yep she has black eyes. My male wont settle down he just flies back and fourth between perches, he has been in there for two days now. He can hear and see the aviary birds from he's cage so maybe this is the problem? Cheers Normal behaviour when taken from a large space like an aviary into a cage. He will settle down. Can please tell me how long it usually takes for a bird to settle down, the hen settled in on the first day and it's now day 4 and he still just flies around and shows no interest in the hen. Is there a time limit to how long I should give this cock to breed? or should I replace him with another male? Thanks again

Another Budgie
Yep I'm hooked already and we have only had the birds for two weeks, I'm trying not to buy anymore and just let the ones I'v got breed. They sound like nice birds enjoy!
