Maybe try and get a humidity reader splat. That way it will be super easy to keep track of it. I had no idea what they're called, but it took me less than 5 seconds to find one on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LCD-Digital-Temperature-Humidity-Meter-Hygrometer-Clock-/200461324010?pt=AU_Gadgets&hash=item2eac6d0eea#ht_3489wt_1141 (Turns out its called a hygrometer )

Well, she is using it a lot more now than she was. Putting weight on it instead of having it stick out behind her while perching. She doesn't put as much weight on it as the other foot, but it doesn't seem to effect her much, if at all. I never got around to getting the calcivet though, always things coming up ruining my plans But I don't think it was a calcium problem, I'm pretty sure she just hurt it somehow. We put the perches a little lower to the bottom of the cage as she seemed to be laying on the floor a lot. But she gets around the cage like a pro now and still likes to sleep in the corner lol Not sick, just an individual I'd say.

I agree with Finnie. Take the hen out and let dad take over. They usually take over the feeding after 2 weeks anyway.

    So basically bad luck lol
  7. From the pictures I would have to agree with Pride and say cobalt. They might look a little lavender in colour because of the faded blue.

Could just be the lighting, but I think Red might be a girl

I am jealous of the fact that you have running water and a sink only steps from your birdroom. At the moment my flight/birdroom is down the very back of the yard (about 30 metres) so I have to drag a hose down there when I do water PS. I like the kettle idea lol
  10. I have 2 birds the exact same as this, but have always just said they were cinnamon spangles. So I would like to see what people say about it ... then I can slap my forehead
  11. No1 is a hen No 2 is a cock

Lovely chicks splat. I especially like your clearbodies. It is a shame about the suffusion. You're having much more luck than me splat. I only got 3 chicks, because my other pairs are either laying infertile, eating the eggs....or dead Out of 4 chicks last round I only got one that might be usable. 1 died, 1 sits funny on the perch and the other flew the coop. Fingers crossed for you

Welcome! From here it looks like a girl. Any chance of getting something closer?
  17. I've been told hulled oats is the best. Just be wary of hens that find a nest and don't leave, meaning they eat the oats and then go straight back inside You get overly chunky hens that way lol

Even so I think it is a very befitting name otherwise. Its just that some people don't realise and try to breed them, then wonder why its not working lol But he is definitely my fave out of these birds
  19. Don't be too worried about his bottom. Birds will preen themselves naturally and they usually fix it themselves. Personally I wouldn't of done this as it would just add to his stress level. He had to be caught restrained and poked in the nether regions with something damp without him knowing what adn why. I would just let him be from now on until he is completely settled.
  20. Well it sounds like you are doing everything right and he is just a little nervous being in a new surrounding with new people noises and food He'll get used to it all eventually, just give him time and don't rush him.
  21. If you just got him he is probably real stressed. Try not to bother him too much, and if you can cover his cage at night. Are they solid? If they are super runny then i would be worried. But if they are solid, you've seen him eating (actually eating not just playing in the seed) and drinking then I would just blame stress.

Just like to pipe in and say that I think Hedwig is a boy (as I know the name is from the female owl from harry potter)
  23. Me likes learning Chick 1 looks to be a blue normal. Grey down, no yellow (as far as I can see), and there's too much dark on the end of the wings for it to be a clearwing right? Chick 2 I definitely see some yellow there. I'm not sure, but is its down white? I was told that means opaline. I can't see the wings super good, but it looks like it has less dark on its wing tips, so clearwing? Chick 3 looks to have yellow also, but I can't see any other tell tale signs of its type I can't even guess the others lol If there is a tell for clearwing, then I would love to hear it
  24. He's definitely a pied of some sort (see the spot on the back of the head) However, I am stumped as to what kind This one needs more experienced eyes i think

Its not that (sorry I'm kind of skimping on info ) Another breeder in my club uses this stuff as well, and they have had no problems. I did ask if there was enough calcium to ensure a smooth breeding season from it, and it is always on constant supply (and the birds love it) However, I feel that a dose of calcivet every now and then will ensure egg binding and internal layers don't happen. But because I'm not exactly sure if that happened this time, at least if another hen dies and they had the calcivet plus the vitamins, then I know for sure there is something else wrong. But my pan is to get the calcivet, as well as some breeding aid formula to put in the breeders seed. Just to help them that little bit more. Its all a learning curve for me. On a brighter note, Pair #6 had a pinky hatch today. A tad bigger than the one in Pair #3's box which is good as they are bigger birds (and the eggs were bigger too) Must of only been fresh as the two halves of the egg were still in there.
