  1. Yes, I did. Not far from me so I couldn't resist. I am not an expert but I think you can say the quality was mixed. Many birds went for under $100....lots went for under $50 as well. But they had some nice and expensive birds there....$1320 for an Ian Hunter bird and $1220 for another Hunter bird. Sorry, Heathrow...I saw your post too late .
  2. Your boys are lovely. Great buy. I don't think Boomsticks is opaline. I think just spangle sky blue, but wait for the experts. I love his gorgeous face.
  3. Thank you GB. I will keep him. Just love him and he turned out to be the best dad and the babies are lovely....I noticed the pouch cheeks too . I took some photos of the green spangle/ino chicks today as well. I will post them here. This is the dad. Light green spangle split albino from GB. The photo is not very good, doesn't show his lovely spangle markings. And this is mum. She is a Yf (maybe golden face) albino. The photo is an old one. She is much more yellow now: They've got 6 chicks. 3 dark eyed ones and 3 red eyed ones. The 3 youngest are still naked, so no photos yet. Here some photos of the older babies: I think this one is a light green spangle like dad: I think #2 is a YF normal blue: And #3 is albino:
  4. :fingerscrossed: What difference a week can make! They are growing so fast. The hatchling will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. She (Bobby) looks like this now: ....here with her older sister Carly: I am pretty sure she is a lacewing as well...have a look at her tail: This is her older sister's tail and wing: ...and some more photos of the older siblings: Yes, that's the exciting bit! I have got another pair with chicks at the moment. They've got 6 babies and I think they all will look different. I have to put some photos of them on here.
  5. Thank you, KAZ. I love photography and I love my birds (budgies+cockatiels) so it is great to combine both passions.
  6. :hmm: A quick update : The 5 chicks did lots of growing this week. The two oldest, Carl+Carly, have almost all their feathers now and look very cute. I think I've got 3 Albinos and 2 Lacewings in this nest. The youngest one seems to be a lacewing. I will take some more photos tomorrow/Saturday. :camera:
  7. That's great. I was thinking about breeding for show, but I think I will just breed big pet types for a bit longer as I enjoy combining all the mutations and colors too much.
  8. The little guy is one week old today: ...and she opened her eyes a little bit: Mum Sheila had beetroot and spinach for breakfast and made a bit of a mess: :gday: I am very excited and so happy that Sheila and Sherbert are doing such a great job looking after the babies. I also got 4 babies in another nest (mum is creamino and dad a green spangle/albino - two of the chicks have red eyes as well). Kazzy, I had a look at your fabulous aviary....it looks fantastic! Do you breed for show or just pet types?
  9. I cleaned the nestbox today and took some more photos: This is the little chick that hatched last Sunday, 18 April....well fed...eyes are still closed: And here the two oldest chicks - Carl and Carly. They both hatched on Monday, 12 April: I haven't had a lacewing chick before, but I think this is a lacewing tail: ....here the lacewing tail on the left next to an albino tail :emoticon112: :
  10. Thank you Kazzy. It is a SLR camera...Olympus E420 with a 35mm macro lense. It is one of the "cheaper" SLRs, but takes great photos. No problem GB. I can understand that....he must be very special to you as he is the only chick you got from the hen and maybe he flew to you to say that he wants to stay with you. I probably should wait before I get any new birds anyway.....wait and see what the spring breeding season will bring. I got so many new pairs to try out this spring.
  11. houman, you are so lucky. it is such a cute baby and gb is doing a great job taming him. have you picked a name yet?
  12. yes , he really was scared of all the hens. first i put him in the breeding cage with a pet type cinnamon hen but she was not interested, so i put sheila in and a couple of days later i saw him feeding her. thank you for the offer regarding a bigger hen, i really appreciate it, but as i am not getting into showing at this stage the small size doesn't worry me. i will take some more photos of the chicks on the weekend...they are growing so fast.
  13. you are a star, anne, for adopting these poor guys. Well done!
  14. Thank you, they are really great parents and I will take some more photos of the young growing up in the coming weeks. The oldest chick is just about to open it's little red eyes....very sweet...and they are so big and fat. He was a great buy. Thank you, GB and nubbly5. I might keep 2 of the babies and sell the others. I will let you know before I sell them. The mum is a show type, but not show quality....he probably deserves a bigger and better hen, but he was very shy and not very interested in hens at all so I am happy that he liked Sheila.
  15. Thank you all . I was really lucky today to be able to take these photos....I checked the nest at the right time and ran inside to get my camera and macro lense. It was sunny today so babies were nice and warm and the light was great. I didn't want to use the flash and scare the hen. She was very friendly and relaxed and even fed the babies while I was taking photos. Yes, GB, it is the lacewing nest . He is very fertile...the hen layed 5 eggs and all 5 hatched! All have red eyes. So boys will be albinos/lacewings and girls will be lacewings. This is the father of the chicks: Sherbert. He is a nubbly bird.
  16. :camera: Have a look and see what happened in Sheila's nestbox today/Sunday:
  17. Thanks for your help guys. I will see how I go, I might just breed pet types and a couple of show types to get a little more experience for the next couple of breeding seasons. I will also try to visit some club meetings to find out whether the club life suits me ;-). Hey gb - I would love to come to your club meeting, but yes, it's a little far :-(. Your birds are doing great. The white lacewing Sherbert might be a dad soon, he paired up with a show type albino hen and she's already got 3 eggs. The green spangle Popeye has got a girl friend, too....a pet type yf albino hen.
  18. didn't notice a purple t-shirt or snazzee sneakers ....birds took all my attention ...but next time forum members should meet for a coffee. What birds did you sell Heathrow? What's your ring code? Chookbreeder's is PT, isn't it?......I really liked your Opaline Violet Hen, lot 18, chookbreeder!
  19. No......I had number 53 and I was sitting in the second row on the right....shortish hair. There was another young lady in front of me...with longer hair.....maybe she had numer 60ish.
  20. Hi there, I've got mainly pet type budgies, but bought some show types in the past couple of months...because I really like the bigger looks and 'personality' of the show types and wanted to breed them with my pet types to improve size of the pet types and I like the look of the half pet/half show type budgie. I am more interested in combining different mutations and colors than breeding the budgies to show standards. So my question is whether all budgie club members breed show types only or whether there are pet type breeders in the clubs as well. Thanks for your help. lealotta
  21. It looked to me like money was no problem lealotta!CheersPT Oooops. Did someone give away may bidder number ? It was an exciting & fun day...I took 5 birds home....got a little carried away. The bird I really wanted went for over $300...a little bit too much for me :-(....maybe next time. Me .
  22. ....and some spending money, please.
  23. ...one more sleep!
  24. I was interested in one of the birds with the bad eye, but then saw it had an eye problem and decided not to bid on that one....think it sold for $60.....and yes, it would be good to discuss that at your next meeting, in my opinion birds with health issues shouldn't take part in an auction. I was lucky to take my bird home ealier . Next time I will leave hubby at home and bring more time. I really enjoyed the auction. Well done!
