Hen Eatting Eggs?
Unless the hen was a cracker i wouldn't bother keeping or working with an egg eater. But i have in the past done the following & it works > assuming you have a concave in your nest box, take it out and place a nail in all corners of the concave so it is elevated then make a hole in the centre of the concave slightly larger than the size of a typical budgerigar egg then replace the concave in the nest box. After you have done that place some shavings below the concave to act as a cushion, then every couple of days simply remove the egg & place it under another pair.

Help With Breeding Please
Check out this web site and look under the tab "aviary" that is how i breed my birds, you can use a cheaper alternative like wire cages which can be purchased for aprox $25 each & hang a nest box on the outside. http://phillkathybudgerigars.weebly.com/index.html I am not sure how many birds you have ,but you need noise and lots of it in my opinion to have good breeding results. You have to make sure they are fit & ready to breed and not in a moult. If they seem ready to breed ,then separate the hens from the cocks for about two weeks in separate flights giving them B12 week on week off ,then put the hens into the breeding cabinets with access to the nest box for a few days on there own "making sure to trim the vents on the hens & cock".Then introduce the cocks, you should have eggs within a week using theis method, works for me hope this helps.

Why Won't They Breed?
It's hard for people to help when they cannot see what condition the birds are in,try them on B12 one week on, one week off ,then one week back on.Then put your hens into the breeding cages on there own for about ten days with access to the nest boxes, after the ten days introduce the cocks.

Suggestions Please
Hi Nadene, ive just realized we are in the same club . Just have a few questions. (1) How many birds do you have. (2) Did you get them all from one source. (3) Are you colony breeding or do you have breeding cabinets. We are only a small club, but there are some good breeders in this club, all willing to help so keep your chin up.First thing you have to do is work out how the sickness occured in the first place & make changes ,whatever they may be so it doesn't happen again. Then we can work out how to get you some more birds.

Will There Be Trouble?
It's a known fact that breeders will and have bred with hens as young as 5 months old,the reason is that the big buff feathered hens will sometimes only breed at that age.Its not always the case though,& who is to say that 5 months is to young,we have all heard the expression "dog years" in dogs.As far as having five cocks with one hen,i think if it was the other way around > say five hens and one cock you would eventually have a budgy war on your hands. If the birds are indicating they want to breed ,let them breed ,that's my opinion.

Paint Fumes
I know it's an old post but i think this needs to be said.If any one else has a similar issue with a neighbour ask them are they spraying with acrylic or 2-pack.If they say 2-pack get your kids and go out for the day ,Isocyanate (2-pack) paints are deadly. They don't use that particular paint in a spray booth with a breathing aparatus and water floor for nothing.

Nest Box Hole To Low
It's probably to late to do much about it now,but your nest boxes are to shallow by the sound of it,to easy for the chicks to exit, you have to make it as hard as you can for them to get out.Mine really have to work at it,so much so that they are almost weaned by the time they leave.

Oral Treatment Of Scaly Face Mite
A well known vet in Wollongong supplied me the same , the intructions where to give one drop orally & yes there where instructions to add it to the water.I dont bother adding it to the water,i have a lot more birds than you ,so basically you have to find the time to catch them up & apply one drop orally to each bird & also place a drop on the back of the neck. They carry on a bit coughing & spluttering and feeling sorry for themselves for an hour or so after treatment but i have done this for a while now ,and have never lost a bird there is no signs of scaly face on any of my birds.I know you will get other people saying that the cattle ivermectin is better, all i am saying is that i use the sheep ivermectin supplied by a vet and it works for me .

Light Greens
Just some pictures of some light greens i think will be okay, they are both double rung. They are both first cousins. The cock does grow a tail. This light green is still very young and is closely related to the opalines above.

Budgies Dying
Get a few of the birds into a show cage for example with white paper on the floor, and then take the droppings down to the vet to get analyzed instead of playing the guessing game. You should do this on a regular basis,i have just had my birds droppings tested and the vet charged me $15.00 so it's not expensive.

Any Clues
I have a hen that carries on the same way as yours,a mate of mine diagnosed it as hip displacement ,i am inclined to agree. That said ,my hen breeds fine and the problem doesn't seem to bother her.I will take a picture of her and upload it later today so you can have a look. Here are the pictures, see how the mother lays over the perch. She has been like that for a couple of years, she flies breeds and shes an excellent mother.
