My Plans For My Aviary
Hi Amy, gosh yeah I can believe the aviary would have flooded in that storm what a storm that was :fear Nice reading about all your plans though I am sure you will work it all out in the end. I have now got 6 tiels left, my original pair and their two daughters (cinnamon and a pied) and one unrelated male, a whiteface and just bought a stunning Lutino the other day hoping it to be a male but I am pretty sure it is a girl ah well She is just sooooo gorgeous though, not selling her but might sell the pied girlie and get this lutino a nice male (would prefer an "albino" but they are not so easy to find so I guess any male split for lutino would do ) So ummm this gorgeous blue boy Kaz posted a piccie of is not technically "yours" then, well, not YET

Pet Shop Trying To Sell "pink" Budgies
How on earth does a petshop justify charging $60 (and worse, $80!!!!!) for a budgie??????!!!!!! And which dumb person would actually pay that kind of money??!!

My Plans For My Aviary
Cool Amy!!!!!!!!! It looks awesome!!!! Sorry it has taken me a while to have a look at this thread, have kinda had my hands full (falling in love with puppy on S.A.F.E. Broome website , saying prayer hubby will let me adopt puppy, hubby saying YES , paying for puppy plus her flight, picking puppy up from airport last Tuesday, taking puppy home, introducing puppy to old dog, old dog okay with puppy , teaching puppy some basics, settling puppy in, walking puppy, playing with puppy, taking puppy to vet and realising puppy has 16 odd ticks in her ears and also ringworm :fear and finally naming puppy as puppy was called Nala and hubby not liking puppy's name so now called puppy "Myah" ........................) This is her: How can you not love a dog with a face like that She is a small terrier cross, what exactly is anyone's guess She was from a dumped litter of 6 pups, has been with a foster carer for some time as she is 5 months old. With regards to the ringworm, the vet could see it was already getting treatment with malaseb bath plus antifungal cream but told us to wash, wash, wash our hands constantly (so now have very very very dry hands sighhh, ah well, she is worth it, loooooooove her )

Peanut's Talking!
There is nothing cuter than a talking budgie I have an 8 month old, who is a particularly good talker and I have found his speech is the clearest when he sits near the window and his voice "echoes" Sometimes I find his voice sounds as if he has inhaled helium, all squeeky lol and sometimes it sounds really human Enjoy, I hope Peanut will pick up lots and lots of words, we even taught ours to say "Merry Christmas" His latest is "You're so special" and "Cuddles" Gosh they're adorable little critters aren't they

Opening A Pet Shop
Why don't you (if you do end up going ahead with your plan/dream ) see if you can make arrangements with animal rescue places (like the ones on Petrescue) and sell unwanted kittens and puppies? Once you get a reputation for doing the right thing, and not selling cats and dogs from breeding farms, you might find that business will be booming

Help Sexing Please!
Funny I would have thought the other way around, the recessive pied is identical to mine, though mine has a brighter purple cere but I can't see white rings around the nares of this pied so well though which makes me think male.... The other one to me appears to have white rings around the nares though could be light blue.....Athena, can you see any obvious white rings around the nostrils/nares of your budgies? In any case, they are gorgeous, especially the yellow pied

Beautiful Boofer
how sad :yuck: You're not in Perth are you? I also know a scumbag breeder in Perth (Hamilton Hill I think he's in) who I would stay away from

Its Amazing How You Can Amuse Yourself With A Bit Of Sun In The Aviary
Love the picture you chose :hi: Now as for the text on your business cards, hope you don't mind me correcting some of the spelling Colourful Budgies (I would make this stand out in nice colours and nice writing) The Rainbow Connection (and this I would do in "rainbow colours") Pet Type Birds bred by Leeia Fox. Retailing birds of com -positive types (not sure what you mean by that??) and your more basic mutations, eg spangles, pieds , opalines and normals. A collection of colourful birds, bred for your specific choice. Birds from 8 weeks on, hand tamed also available. (You could also put something like "hand reared and aviary bred babies available") We do not clip birds' wings. I reckon your business cards are going to look great with those pictures, best of luck to you

Charley The Chatterbox! (update)
OHHHH MY GOODNESSSSSSSSSS  that is awesome speech!!! And yes, he does sound like a human, a female so I guess like you lol My kids just cracked up and at first wouldn't even believe it was a bird Our birds tallks too and fairly clearly, but no where near as good as Charley You must be so proud and he is very pretty too by the way, love his colours :camera: .

Hi
ow they are so tiny compared to my tiel babies Red eyes I think is just an indication of lutino or cinnamon but I will let an expert answer that, I don't "do" budgie breeding lol

Turtle
I would think it came from that reserve, not a pet............ I would take him back there straight away, I don't think they are meant to be kept as pets at all anyway, and I am not sure if a backyard pond is great idea either to be honest........ We get them here, I live near a lake, they are lovely.

Can Ollie Talk?
sweet sounds, I can hear him making kissing sounds Mine is also 4 months old and he is amazingly clear with his speech, I am absolutely stunned He says "what's ya doing?" soooooo clearly :emoticon112: he also does kissing sounds and clicking sounds, he wolf whistles, he says "pretty pretty pretty", "pretty boy", "good boy" and I thought I heard him say "come on Dash" yesterday So yeah, he has done well but I have been told that that is pretty uncommon, not many budgies learn to talk that clearly or that quickly

Is There Something Wrong?
yup I agree with Dave, it's perfectly fine to let them be partners, let them mate too, that really is not a bad thing but completely normal and to let them enjoy life together without breeding them :emoticon112: Breeding is hard work, for the birds and also for you. My tiels have a clutch at the moment and they require a lot more feeding than normal so I am replacing their food about three times a day, once in the morning as usual, then again early arvo and again at 6pm so they have a good supply when they wake up to feed the babies (and before I do my feeding routine again........) My parent tiels are looking skinnier than normal which is obviously cause they are feeding their chicks, I don't like seeing the parents so skinny and worn out so will again only let them have the one clutch, like I did last year...... Not every bird is cut out to be a parent, your boy might even be too young, him being a pet budgie, they are known (well, at least with tiels) to make worse parents than non tamed or aviary budgies. So think carefully before you decide to breed them, yes it is fun and wonderful to see the little fuzzballs, don't get me wrong, but it is a commitment too.

Budgie Bells

My Budgie The Clown
HUH? i was looking at that to before as well and i was like HUH?!!!! gee are you really in your 40's??? Only just... okay, if pets are a reflection of their owner, and Dash is as cute as, Cloud probably is as well. Certainly a good setup for the little guy, well done. uh okay thanks i guess Compared to this picture of an absolute state of the art playgym I saw on this forum (I think Kaz was selling one????) mine is simple as, but Dashy sure loves it It was very easy to make too and I reckon much better than those little ones you get at the petshops

More Pictures
It's a Turquoisine Daniela and I was wondering how he goes with the budgies Elsa?? I have had Turks but sold them in the end, they were very aggressive and even though on the other side of the wire, still caused the tiels some grief I miss their colours though but they went to a great home
