  1. New bubba is doing well though still quite shy and scared sometimes (gets all huffy puffy lol) Took this photo today sitting on my daughter's shoulder. The cere matches the colour of my daughter's bedroom wall lol Jasper appears to be a yellowface II mauve not grey, thanks Kaz :-) Tail in sunlight is definitely a dark navy blue
  2. Try some red chillies (yes the hot ones, they don't feel the heat like we do :-) ) and if you have access to an Agonis Flexuosa somewhere (weeping tree, long narrow leaves that smell of peppermint, my birds go crazy over the stuff ;-) ) In Perth that tree is found in lots of suburbs on verges, I do give my branches a good soak in water and apple cider vinegar and then rinse really well though just to be sure
  3. In Year FIVE?????????? I am shocked, what school was that? Lol
  4. Great to hear :-) He is one heck of a vet (assuming you saw Adrian) even if he is not a dedicated avian vet ;-)
  5. How did it go at the vets?
  6. Actually mine didn't take a lot of work at all, he picked up things very quickly. For instance, he would sometimes get shouted at by my son for biting him and my son would say "Eh eh eh NAUGHTY" Guess what Dash' favourite saying was lol. Once he was sitting on my son's shoulder and he was preening my son's face, all of a sudden he bit my son, said "eh eh eh naughty" and flew away quickly hahahahaha he was a character :-D He would also talk to our weero, Holly. He would go up to her and say "Hi Holly" "Pretty girl Holly" "What's ya doing?" "Kiss kiss" :-D He would also call our dogs :-D
  7. Dash got really sick, mega bacteria was suspected but not sure as gram stain was clear. I had him put to sleep as he kept vomiting and had lost a lot of weight :-(
  8. Lol, yeah its not like I've got it growing in my backyard but still would like to know if it is toxic? I guess it is a "natural substance" ;-)
  9. ohhhhh he sounds like my Dash :-((( I miss him now I hear your budgie :-(( Your birdie is awesome, very clever :-D Mine would know so many words and phrases, unbelievable how clever these little birds are :-) Thank you for sharing :-)
  10. Call Ocean Keys vets at Clarkson (behind Bunnings opposite Better Pets and Gardens) and see if you can speak to Anita. Tell her I (Claudia) told you to call them to ask if you can pick up some ivermectin to treat a bird without having to take the bird in. Tell them you have confirmation from various bird forum member that the bird definitely has scaly face and that it needs treatment asap. The vets number is 9408 6999. The good thing with this vet is they only charge $40 to see a bird if they do want you to bring the bird in (some vets insist on that though these guys are normally pretty good but that is also because they know me) so that is pretty good.
  11. Get some ivermectin from a vet, tell the vet it is for scaly face treatment for a bird. What suburb are you in? I and some other Perth members might be able to direct you to the appropriate vet(s). You don't want to muck around with this, it is fairly advanced from what I can tell, you want something that is going to work. Ivermectin is simply given by one drop on the back of the neck of the bird, easy as :-)
  12. cant tell the genders but the green one seems to be having a scaly face (mites) issue I think, go to the vet once you have had confirmation from other forum members it is indeed mites and get some spot-on Ivermectin tomorrow, that should cure her/him and you will want to treat the other one too to be sure...
  13. Nicely done young man, you must be so proud of all your hard work :-) Can't wait to see pics of the aviary with birds in it :-)
  14. How did you go in the end Funkypanda? I am also in the process of making one :-) I used to have a smallish one I made myself but when my budgie died a few weeks ago I chucked everything that belonged to him out as he was ill.
  15. I think the person that gave that bird marijuana (I have no idea how much or whether it was just a "nibble") is an irresponsible idiot who could potentially be charged with A. animal abuse if the bird was to die and B. possession of an illicit drug What do you guys think, Is marijuana toxic to birds and if so, in what doses?
  16. So you and I are in the same boat :-) Exciting to have a new bubba but sometimes also a bit frustrating, right ;-)
  17. How long have you had Cricket for? I am having the same issue with my new bubba too but I have only had him for 6 days. It takes time :-) To them we must seem like such giants ;-) Great link by the way BJ, some good advice there :-)
  18. I'm gonna say boy ;-) I noticed this is an older thread, how are all the birds going? Megabac is not a good thing :-( It is not something that will just go away either, it is with the budgie for life, that is, if they survive :-(
