City Farmers is trying a supplier to see if they can get some in for them but I thought I'd post it on here in case someone knows where you can buy them from. Thanks everyone :-)
  2. I find with my new budgie and also my previous budgie, they will "bite" your finger when they step up, this is just to balance themselves :-)
  3. Kids and I have finally decided to name him Jasper and if it turns out he is indeed a she (in bright daylight the cere reallly is darker purple than in these photos ;-) ) the name will become Jazzy :-D
  4. Enjoying some time outside The stomach is definitely more grey-greenish but so hard to capture :-/
  5. This little one is really young, about 6 weeks old. It appears to be a yellowface type 2 grey. In the photos the tummy looks really grey but in "real life" it has a greenish tinge to it almost but in some light it looks almost mauve lol Cere is also darker purple in real life. oh yeah, has anyone got name suggestions?? :-D
  6. Hmmm to easy my conscience I decided to put the whole cage in the bath tub and let it soak in hot water with lots of a.c.v. lol Will put it out in the sun in a few hours which I had also done already but just do not want to take any risks. Thanks Bird Junky
  7. Hi guys My 3 year old budgie had to be put to sleep last week :-(( Initially I said No more, but after only a few days I have found the house way too quiet with only a female cockatiel (who only loves my husband anyway the little tart lol) I have scrubbed Dash' cage really well as the vet still suspects he had mega bacteria but even if it was something else, I wanted to make sure that the cage was cleaned thoroughly. My question is, how will I know that what I have done is enough if you get what I mean?? I want to bring home a new budgie very soon but I do not want to risk any viruses or bacteria potentially still being present in that cage :-((
  8. so sorry to hear :-( Can I ask you guys what causes a FD budgie to die so young normally??
  9. Had him put to sleep today :-((( Am devastated :-(((( He was vomiting so much more today and had lost even more weight :-((( Did not want to put him through tube feeding or any other tests, every time I tried to get meds into him he would get so worked up he would throw up afterwards :-(( Will miss him so much
  10. Gram stain was negative...... Dash vomited again this arvo though, just as I thought he was actually perking up again :-( (and just after I cleaned and disinfected his cage, toys, dishes, perches etc sighhh) Poor little man :-(
  11. :-(( Might have to make a decision to end his suffering :-(( I don't think I want to put him through much more :-(((
  12. I might go see the other guy then (forgot his name) my friend goes to him with her Alexandrine so I will get his details of her, he is is still a long way away though, used to be in Applecross.... From what I have been reading the past few minutes on various websites is that the outcome is pretty bleak though :-((
  13. oh bugga :-( Unfortunately I am Northern suburbs so visit my dog's vet (he is a very, very good vet though who also looks after a lot of wildlife as he has a wildlife carer working at reception). What is the general treatment for megabac and what is the general outcome? :-( I don't want him to suffer either to be honest, he has lost a lot of weight. He was 55 grams a few weeks ago (that was on the heavy side I must admit) and he is now 36 grams :-(( Thanks Kaz
  14. I have a 3 year old budgie, Dash, who ever since we have had him (he was 6 weeks old when we bought him) gets a bout of vomiting during a very heavy moult. Baytril always cures him and I was therefore not too worried when he started last week. He was doing the head flick with the vomit sticking to his head thing last week but that stopped within a day luckily (or so I thought ). He seemed back to normal within two days but a few days ago I noticed he seemed to be eating non stop but was not putting on any weight and he vomited again too so back into the laundry with him with towels around his cage and the heater on. He had very black poos as well last week but his poos are green now but I can seed in most of his poops. He now seems to only vomit when I catch him to medicate him (I don't add Baytril to his water as he is not a big drinker). When I release him he vomits up a mouthful of seed and when I hold him to medicate him he squawks a lot so it is obviously way too stressful for him :-( I am now thinking with the way he is behaving that he might have megabac? Anyone else got any ideas/experience? Thanks in advance for any advice, am trying to get a vet appointment tomorrow, unfortunately today I couldn't as I was on a school outing with my daughter's class....
  15. Wow what a score with that free aviary!!!! I never saw it on Gumtree, bummer (no I really don't have the room for an aviary that size )
  16. Well, I have no idea as to how far they can fly but I am in Edgewater, near Joondalup...... To be honest, I don't think anyone is looking for her. It's been nearly two weeks now with only the one call to the lady she was initially staying at, and she described a totally different bird to me (I was the one that rang her back). After 77 views on Gumtree you would think the owner would have been 1 of them..... (The lady that found the bird has now taken that ad off though) No ads anywhere for missing birds except for some normal greys (and boy are they hard to accurately identify ) Have rung a few vets today, checked all the papers that have come out in the past week.....nothing. We are happy to keep her, she has ended up in a good home luckily She is showing signs of never having been fed anything but seed before she doesn't even know what millet is I have introduced bok choy, broccoli, capsicum, chillies but she won't touch them apart from a bit of tearing at the bok choy. She did nibble the native branch I gave her the other day at least and she also loves (multigrain) bread. I gave her a bath today, her tail was filthy and stank too. I have also given her spot on ivermectin just to be sure, she appears in good health so I also don't think she was out for very long before she landed on the other person's head Have not heard back about the budgie yet by the way, not sure how he is going, will call my friend tomorrow.................
  17. No no, Christmas Eve........ Have looked at a few local notice boards today......nothing.
  18. aw thanks Kaz I always try and "educate" my friends that have birds lol The only reason I have learnt so much in recent years is thanks to forums like this one (and a few others I post on mainly re. my weeros/tiels). Looking after a found tiel at the moment, she is lovely and I just can not believe no one is missing her. She is on Gumtree (ad from when she was still staying with another lady), All Creatures Lost and Found and on the radio on 98.5 I do know there are heartless people out there that just don't care anymore about their birds and just let them go Still hoping that wasn't the case with this one though..... So if any of you Perth bird lovers see any flyers around with a lost weero on it please let me know (sorry Kaz, I know totally off topic but would love to find her owners )
  19. No they haven't as it has been Christmas and New Year's and there is only 1 avian vet in Perth that I know of and he is quite a way from where we are.
  20. Hi all need some urgent advice. Was at my friend's house tonight and their budgie (age unknown) appeared to have had a stroke on Christmas day. He was acting strange and wobbly, fell to the ground and then ended up being paralysed on one side. He perked up a little over the next few days but is still tilting his head to the left. I noticed he was sleeping in the water bowl leaning agains the bars of the cage He is also closing the left eye more than the right eye when awake. He climbs around the bars of the cage but falls down a lot and really leans to the left. He has been eating but I held him tonight and noticed he is quite thin and upon weighing him (unfortunately not digital kitchen scales) he was probably only around 20 to perhaps 30 gr. Is he slowly starving to death even though he is eating and if so what could cause that? Or could he indeed have had a stroke? I know he has had a branch of an Umbrella tree in his cage, probably fairly regularly as they had no idea that that shrub is toxic until I pointed that out tonight The other budgie in the cage with him is young, less than a year old and was panting rapidly tonight (as if frightened) when I pointed that out to my friend she said the other one did that before he had his "stroke". I am leaning towards poisoning but want your input guys. I was very sad watching that poor budgie leaning agains the bars tonight, trying to hold his balance whilst sleeping :( I have given her some of my seed to replace her seed with just to make sure it isn't a bad batch of seed though I doubt it (she used Trill, the fancy one in the small round cylinders with the added fruit though told her they probably won't even eat that
  21. Found, pearl weero in Edgewater (Perth northern suburbs) Female, quite tame and very quiet. Was found Christmas Eve by mum from school, now residing at my place as I am a birdie person, she is not ;-) No responses to ad on Gumtree or All Creatures Lost and Found. Will have a good home with either myself or a girlfriend of mine but really want to find her owners.
