Puzzle.........cere Colour Problem
A few more chick picture's. Also adding pics of Aquarius's chick's. These in foster nest, Blue spangle & Cinn? in back left corner, are no 1&2 Chick's Chick in corner looking into corner with blue tail showing cinnamon is HULK'S fostered chick. Cinn. looking out is foster mum's chick. (both mum& dad cinn) Rest of Aquarius's clutch. Look's like a violet spangle? it's showing really violet already. Don't know about rest. Also adding picture of Hulk's brood 8 from nine last one died, as well as Aquarius's 10th. Oldest in foster nest. Look's like Dad is split? masking cinnamon as neither mum or Dad show it visually, I think verdict was cock can mask cinnamon but not hen? Oldest chick in foster cage showing cinnamon = left corner chick look's cinnamon also. Hope I got that right. Cheer's any answer's welcome.

Marigold And Skye's Second Cluch!
That sound's great Ratsy, even if he doesn't have pet types he may have some culls you could buy. :emoticon112: If he's a breeder and you can see his set up it will give you a better idea of how to up-grade your's. Good luck.

Perch Above Nest Box?
Are you trying to post pictures through photobucket? If you've joined it. To add your picture upload your picture at med. I think is right. Make sure you have b.b.c. open, where you want to place picture. like here you would add reply, hit enter get your cursor where you want it. Then make sure you go back to google e.g. then open photobucket also in new window. You must have photobucket and Budgie forum open at the same time. Then choose your picture copy and paste your picture into b.b.c. hope this helps, I had trouble getting it to work as well, young fellows like you are more computer literate than I but I got there in the end. Have another go at it. :emoticon112:

Marigold And Skye's Second Cluch!
Hi Ratsy, If your going for a second round, then taking breeding cage out it should be o.k. if your keeping chick's for now. Dad's worried about inbreeding but as chicks are to young to breed for twelve months, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe by that time you'll have upgraded your set-up. If you sold these babies and used money to buy in new pair e.g. that would solve that as well then, you could breed Marigold to new bird or keep her with skye and breed to pairs for new blood. Just my thoughts on it. Good luck with new clutch. :emoticon112:

Perch Above Nest Box?
Do you mean access perch to nest box or normal perches inside cage? Birds would still need perch's in cage. Maybe at height of hole in box for closest one to nest box, possibly a bit higher at other end of cage if it's the only option. picture's would help. If you check at start of forum there is a post how to post pictures. Check that out and see how you go.

Shark Fin .
Hi All, Somewhere I read about a long feathered birds wing being refered to as a shark fin? Couldn't find it in search. Looking at my birds to-day I noticed Olly,( Dad of MY long feather's etc. chatting to his son.) Took this picture to see if this is what is meant by shark fin? son is the lower bird. Dad with ring. Hope I got that right. Cheer's any answer's welcome. :hap:

Budgies With Scaly-face Mites.
Hi Sean, Reading your post, it was probably rather costly to have all your birds treated. Here you can get Ivermectin from a vet. bird strength. You then treat your birds 1 drop behind head, each 3 months. This takes care of a lot of worms, mites etc. and a 50ml. bottle was under $20.00 that will do heaps of birds. Might be food for thought for the future.

Hi
Hi. I also got woodshavings from a timber yard. Just make sure they are NOT treated pine shavings. Also that they are not mixed with treated stuff.

Wow, Thanks Kaz, so if it's following Dad's mutations, would it also be a hen?

Puzzle.........cere Colour Problem
Sorry Ratsy, yes it hatched, sort of, I found it this morning half out of shell but still stuck and sadly it had died. Don't know if the shell being scratched had anything to do with it. I suppose it is a perfect score for Aquarius as far as it goes, he filled all 10 eggs, but we stumbled at the last hurdle. Still The rest are all going great guns, oldest is showing aqua wings, 2 centre feathers of tail are white. Read what that means somewhere but can't remember. I'll post picture of foster nest chick's, I changed bedding to-day and took picture. This nest has 2 of Aquarius's, 1 of hulk's, 3 of their own. Aqua chick & I think yellow pin feathered one are Aquarius. NOTE 2 WHITE TAIL FEATHERS.

Puzzle.........cere Colour Problem
It's great G.B. We now have nine.First couple are starting to get a bit of colour. Oldest has the Aqua colour in it's wings with yellow pin feathers on head will have to wait a bit yet. I'm dubious about last egg hatching. It's got a scratch out of shell, done from outside, probably a claw. The membrane looks intact but it's getting a browny tinge about it, a couple of days to go yet so I'm not very sure of a live chick. All others are doing well. I've got Hulk's lot in another cage they have 7 from 9 so far. I added oldest of their's to foster cage as well, giving foster cage 6 chicks. Babies everywhere. Plus egg's in 2 other cages, 6 & 4 so far. :bluebudgie:

Hens Died :(
Sorry you lost your hen Anne, but don't blame yourself, sounds like you've done everything and more. I had one fly into aviary from flight give a couple of squarks and she was dead on the floor, a beautiful opaline spangle 2 yrs old. Just put it down to mother nature, she can be a b.... at times. Good luck with your eggs you may still get something of her with luck.

Chick Mortality
Hi Lib, I'm inclined to agree with G.B. if there is no smell, droppings of mice I think I'd try the draft issue first. If you change everything at once you won't know for sure what the problem was. Maybe you could tack screen door mesh, (not the plastic type) over your door panel's. That might stop mice if they are present also cut the draft somewhat and still give ventilation.

Puzzle.........cere Colour Problem
We are now up to 8 with 2 eggs to go. Picture 1 first 2 (fostered). Tiny No 8 arrives to-day. Hasn't even been fed when picture was taken, will check shortly.

Chick Mortality
Hi Lib , Checked out your pics on breeding set-up. It looks like your cages have wire bottom and back plus door. Is that right? If so, maybe it's very breezy and creates a " wind tunnel" effect? Might be a bit chilly for chicks when it's cold /or wet. If you could put something at back and drop a shadecloth or similar blind at front at night it might help block the straight through draught ? Just a thought IF I have the right info. from pics. P.S. FOUND YOUR PICS ON BREEDERS CHAT NOT HERE IS THAT RIGHT?

Skin Deep?
Hi All, Just wondering (again) can you tell any mutations etc. from chick's skin colour? As in picture one is very dark skinned compared to others? noticed it before, when all chick's are from same nest, some are different.

Chick Mortality
Hi Lib, I only bred for first time last Aug. Had 5 cages. only lost one chick (not covered and frozen). Had 27 healthy chicks. Some clear eggs, one scatty hen left 5 eggs. No fatalities a couple of long feathered chicks but that's not an issue as in your case. Everything your already doing sounds really good so why? What about temp. aspect of aviary etc..time of breeding. Any outside contaminates, overspray from garden insecticides e.g. wish I could be more help. Keep posting, as I'm sure someone may give you a clue. Good luck with it all. An after- thought, how are your chicks you do raise? are they all healthy fit birds or do they have issues of any sort? If it's an environment issue they may give you a clue.

Looking For Advice.
ALL OF THEM. I think ratsy. hope I don't have any d.i.shell or anything. 4 to go. Yes Libby, I'm really pleased the way things are going. I knew the little hen was a good breeder and Mum which is why I chose her, as Aquarius was an unknown quantity. He's done himself proud. Can't wait to see them feathered up. :laughter: Thanks Kaz babies have settled in with new parents without a hitch, thanks again for that advice, I now know that's possible if the need arises again. :laughter:
