Thank's Kaz. I was thinking along those lines as she and partner are still bonded etc. she's a nice skyblue opaline spangle. He is a rec pied/cobalt or maybe violet. I didn't have a "normal" to try her with so don't know what I will get but only pet's so it's a lottery I quess.

Hi All, I have a breeding pair who HAD 4 eggs. Unluckily the nest box lid dropped onto eggs while checking nest. 2 eggs were broken, one looks clear, leaving 1 fertile egg. My query is if I remove that egg to an adjoining nest with eggs laid at the same time. Will the hen lay another round? Go nuts and continue to sit on nothing? OR Leave her to hatch last egg? Or should I put them back into aviary, as it seems a waste to have her rear only one chick, if she would, maybe, lay another round. She is a show stock hen and first time I've bred her. Any help gratfully received.

Very sad result Kaz. You just can't fathom how nature works at times. Did Samara reach it's "milestone's" at the same time as usual from hatching or was it a bit behind because it hatched early?

If you want other pairs to breed, I think you would need to add breeding box's to their cages. I don't think anything will come from mating unless they have box's. Other's may advise you better I have only bred for 18mths or so.
  5. Great result Anne beautiful chicks, love the colourings.

Could it be inexperience? Is it first time Mum, I had one who kicked eggs all over the place first season, only hatched 3 out of 9. Next session she laid sat and reared chicks like a pro. Just a thought.

Hi Jack, it grows really quickly and mine eat it even if it gets to flower stage. Just pull whole plant, wash off roots etc and give them the lot.

I put mine in a hanging bowl. They drop it all out of bowl onto floor .... and then eat it l.o.l.

Beautiful Splat, "We can but dream".
  14. Sorry he's no better Kaz but has it got any worse? If not he may well improve over time.
  15. Hi Kaz, been m.i.a. for a week or so. Any improvement with your frozen feet bird?

Hi Annie, She hasn't just gone into a moult has she? If she's down with the scaly face and a moult as well she could be out of sorts. Hopfully that's all it is and she picks up.

Beautiful birds Matt, What mutation is this one?
  18. Sorry you lost Blue, Angelic. Was he very old? Maybe it was just his time. Good luck with your other birds.

    Any result yet Annie82 ?
  20. Hang in there G.B. Maybe the one that said your's were nothing special, could be looking through "green eyes". I think the chicks are lovely but I don't know the finer points of show birds.
  21. Here's hoping for some improvement Kaz. If he hasn't got any worse, maybe it won't progress any further. Fingers crossed meds or something works and you can breed from him.

Hi Annie, I have a little clip on book light with a bright globe. I used this to candle egg's if it's dark in your breeding box shine the light directly over each egg, you can see, either little spider veins (after an egg is 5 days or so) or a darker lump, for a better word if it's an older egg and it's fertile If what you see is a clear glow it's infertile or new you won't know which are the new eggs if she's still laying. The first 3 you moved may be addled e.g. which means the next egg could be due say a week after first 3 were due. I'd leave things now and let 'Old Mother Nature" do her thing.
  23. Hi Cassidy, Put her in a cage and cover her to stop any draft. Heat is very good about a 40w bulb maybe or more if you cant get the lamp close to her. Is she still eating drinking etc. Are you birds in the same cage because it could be contagious? Good luck with it and let us know how you go.
  24. Sounds strange Kaz, Are his elbow joints o.k? If it's just feet you could maybe keep check for it progressing further up his legs's e.g. If he's o.k. otherwise, can he rest on a wider perch/shelf maybe? If he still fly's he would get to know where it was safe to land, when he can't grip. Once infection is ruled out that is.
  25. Hi Annie, If Mum is still sitting etc. still looks good. Depends which of them are fertile. Did she end up with 7 eggs ?
