Problem With Eye
Hi Viktor! Welcome to the forum! If you are asking whether lime will kill the budgie or not, I think it won't. Oranges are good for budgies, so I think limes would be, too. (My apologies if you meant something else! ) If you are concerned about the disinfectants used in cleaning your new apartment, I guess it depends on what you have used. In my home, I try not to use anything with a strong odor, or anything that emits fumes. If I have to use those things, I try to take the bird cage out of the room and/or open the windows and run a fan until all of the odor is gone. To check your birds for respiratory distress, look for brown stains above their ceres. I'm sorry, I can't tell you why your budgie would be scratching at his eye. The only similar thing I had once, was when one of them was moulting, and he had quite a few tiny pin feathers coming in all around his eyelid, and then his eyelid looked red and puffy for a little while. I was alarmed, until I looked really closely and saw that it was just pin feathers. The redness and puffiness lasted less than half an hour, and then he looked okay. Maybe if you can post a picture of the problem eye, someone on here could recognize what is wrong?

I am really sorry for all three of you.

Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
That nestbox has flakey bran in it I'll have to try that sometime. It looks like it might not get sticky, like the oats. (Oops, if I'd have seen Jason6000's topic about nesting materials, I wouldn't have had to ask! )

Finnie's August 2010 Pairs
That's a good question, so I went to look up what was in it. Here is a link to the ingredients:Reed Seed Co. It lists "blue millet" and "green millet" I've heard of white and red millet, which are natural, but the blue and green are obviously dyed! That's ridiculous! It also lists "fruity kibble", which I've always assumed was the colored parts. This is the only company around here where you can buy bulk seed (50 lb bag for $30.00U.S.) You have to go to the bird fair to get it, which is about 4 times a year. I wish it didn't have all the extra stuff like dried fruit and coconut- my birds leave all that. They also leave all the rapeseed. But otherwise, there is very little waste, just the hulls- I rarely ever see any uneated seed, other than the rape. And it is so much cheaper than buying the small 5lb bags in the pet store, so the birds and I just put up with the extras. (I have no idea what "canvay" "flower " and "flay" are.)

Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
Precious! By the way, Kaz, is that flaky bedding your oats that you use? Because it looks very different from the oats I have. Maybe I'm using the wrong stuff.

My New Breeding Season
The last chick is cute, and I think that clear mantle on the opaline looks cool!

First Hatchling
Well, that is definitely a front on cere shot! But unfortunately, the way the color looks washed out, it's hard to tell whether that's any white I'm seeing, or just the lighting conditions. I almost think it could be a male, but it's hard to say.

Finnie's August 2010 Pairs
Finnie goes off to delete Nubbly's post..... lol so um i guess im going to really need to watch my words now Oh, you guys crack me up! So here are some updated pictures. I took the opportunity to do a photo shoot during the nest box cleaning. oldest on the left Second oldest chick #3 (plum eyed one) chick #4 Back in their clean nest, with lots of bird seed added I don't think those last four eggs are going to survive They look too dirty, and I'm afraid if I try to clean them off, I'll kill them for sure. (If they haven't already been addled.) I thought about fostering them to the other nests, but the other hens have 7 and 8 eggs of their own. Aveline's eggs: Teagan's eggs: These hens are egg-laying fools!

Confused and Discouraged
I wouldn't give up on the millet, though. Maybe he's just not used to it in that form. Try keeping some in his cage full time, because eventually he will try it, just out of curiosity. Once he tries it, he will love it, and it's easier to hold millet than a handful of seed. Personally, I wouldn't allow him to become bonded with a plastic budgie. It will not respond to him the way a real budgie would, and that will frustrate him. Same thing with any mirrors he might have. I like Sunnie's advice. He needs to learn to take your hand for granted.

The Oldest And Youngest
My hunch is that it's a boy. Paler around the nostrils isn't enough to go by, unless there is definite WHITE on the cere. Even though your previous pictures of this one haven't shown the cere very clearly, from what I could see, I was leaning toward boy already. Of course, you will know eventually, if the paleness turns into actual white, or if it grows up and gets a brown cere. "Mini Kramer"! I love it!

"My flock is complete"..... Now where have I heard those words before? ......... By The Way, those are some beautiful new birds you have.

Colours Of New Additions
If the grey green spangle was split to blue, it could produce a df white spangle. (Well, when paired to another spangle...)

Confused and Discouraged
The times it is staying calm could be because it is frozen with fear. Putting your hand in the cage at this stage could be backing up your progress. You need to try to teach him that your hand is something he can trust, so try to be as calm as possible those times when you must reach in. Will he take food from your hand through the bars? I would work on that for the time being, until he knows you better. And talk to him a lot, so he learns your voice. It's a long, slow process, and 3 weeks is just the beginning. Also, there are some good taming articles in the FAQs section. I've had good luck in the past using some of the techniques I learned from them. Be patient and keep trying, you will be happy when you do see progress.

The Oldest And Youngest
I think the first photo looks male, and the second photo looks female, so it's back to the age old question: Do you see any white in real life?

The Oldest And Youngest
From left to right it looks like you have a sky blue, a cobalt, and a violet. Do you have any pictures of the cere of the violet one?

Budgie Turning Black
Are you concerned that she may be sick? It's possible that you may have to catch her up to get a good look, whether she likes it or not. When I have to do that, I then cover the bird's head up (or the whole bird) with a cloth. Having their face covered calms them down. Then I peel the cloth back from the area that I need to look at. It's tricky to do all that, and also take a photo. You might want to get someone to take the picture while you hold the bird.

Thought I'd Lost My Husband Today
Oh, Nubbly! What a terrible thing to go through- I'm so glad he will be okay. You will be okay, too. :sadsorry: I hope his broken bones mend quickly, and especially that his shoulder will heal with no complications. I hope he will be a good patient for you. Whatever you do, don't give him a little bell to ring! (Just kidding, sometimes those bells come in very handy.) And Splat, what nightmare you went through! Even though it's been a few years, you have my sympathy, as a mother. I take it he recovered fine?
