Hi, welcome! I wanted to say he looks beautiful, too, and Dash is a great name!
  2. Welcomel, Kate. What part of the U.S. are you from? (I'm in Indiana) -Diana (aka finnie)
  3. Thank you all for your kind words. It's nice to know there are other bird people who sympathize. Was a little nervous uncovering the cage this morning, in case anyone else had joined Nigel, but thankfully not. I really hope it was just a single incident. Buried Nigel this morning in our little pet cemetery out back. It's always sad to lose a pet, but they are worth having, even though we know they won't live as long as we do. It would be a very sad thing to avoid loving a pet just because of that. Thanks to all of you, and returned hugs to those who've also lost one recently.
  4. "> My poor baby Nigel died suddenly this evening. A small commotion drew my attention to the birds, and I looked just in time to see him fall to the floor of the cage. I went to look, and he was just sitting there with his wings spread out, like he was panting, only wider than that. And he let me just pick him up and put him back on a (low) perch, and he just sat there. He didn't seem to have any injury, and everything in the cage looked normal, no runny poos anywhere, all the other birds look fine, but he just wasnt' right. After a little while he fell off the perch again, so I held him to keep him warm while I set up a hospital cage, but once he was in there he just laid on the floor, and after a short while he looked up and had a sort of seizure, and then laid down and stopped breathing. I can't imagine what the problem was. He was 8 months old, and he'd never had any problems. I will really be watching the rest of the birds now, in case there are any signs I can detect at an earlier stage, I hope this doesn't happen to them too. I hope he wasn't suffering long, since I wasn't aware of a problem before he fell. I will miss him. He was one of my favorites, and I was really looking forward to seeing what kind of babies he would produce. I just feel a little helpless, because there was no warning for me to be able to head this off.
  5. I didn't know they could eat dandelion leaves! Boy have I got a bumper crop for them!
  6. I have to add, too, Cory, that is one gorgeous baby bird! You're lucky you can have so many. Every new one you get is so pretty!
  7. Picccolo is a great name! I was going to suggest Newman, to go with Cosmo Kramer, but really, he's too cute to be a Newman. Enjoy your sweet little fellow!
  8. AV, that is so awesome! It sounds like Charlie must have really enjoyed the attention and wanted to show off. (Doesn't it seem like whenever you want kids or pets to "perform" for someone, that's when they suddently forget everything they know?) I bet Charlie did all her tricks and speaking because she wanted to and was having fun. Sounds like she could be a therapy/demo bird in the making! Wonder if her new owner would enjoy doing stuff like that with her?

We finally get to see Zeke! He's beautiful- worth the wait.
  10. You could pattern after Dave and name them "Blue" and "Bluer"! If you were there and saw their behaviour in a show cage, you would well understand the names dumb and dumber. it is no coincidence that Kaz has their sister, whose name is Schitzo. Dumb, Dumber and Schizo, that is funny!
  11. Good luck with the naming. It took me 2 weeks and pages and pages of name lists before I was happy with a name for Phoebe!
  12. what a sweet baby!
  13. Just chiming in with a name suggestion: Elvis and Priscilla!
  14. You could pattern after Dave and name them "Blue" and "Bluer"! :cake:
  15. Good luck with this pair! (I know, you meant hen1 )
  16. That's awesome! Easter could be a nice name for a budgie... Happy Easter, everyone!
  17. Hi, and welcome! It's great to meet people from all over the world!
  18. Congratulations! Very sweet bird.
  19. 100%recessive pieds, all green (light or dark). Unless the male is split for blue, then you could get some sky blues and cobalts.
  20. Very nice birds, Cory! Don't worry about the yf2's wing clip, it'll grow back pretty soon. If he's well past his 1st moult, his 2nd one will be on it's way... Just remember to change their diet gradually!
  21. Hi! welcome Zeke and Mum!
  22. The male would have 2 ino genes, and the female one, so all the chicks would be ino. They would also all be green series, or lutino, unless the lutino parent was split to blue, then you would get 50% albinos. If it was the other way around, it wouldn't make any difference in this case, because you aren't working with any non-ino genes. Tha'ts my guess .
