Update On Max
When I bought my 2 budgies about a month ago, I was really concerned that my cock, Max, may be a female. Having posted pics of the birds and getting some expert advice on their sex, I am happy to announce that Max's cere is indeed slowly but surely turning blue!!! Yay!! Even though Angie has been confirmed as being a hen, her cere is still quite blue looking. So just eagerly waiting for her cere to change colour too. Stay tuned.

Victorian Bushfire Tragedy
Well I am lost for words, I have been fused to the tv since last night. Words cannot justify my heartfelt sorrow for the people who have lost their lives, their properties, animals, and family members. I cannot possibly fathom what it must be like, the gut-wrenching fear. So many were caught by surprise and could not even escape in the car. It is overwhelmingly sad and my thoughts go out to all affected by the fires. And to those who have deliberately lit fires...well...one can only hope that the full force of the law comes down on you so hard, you don't know what hit you. I have heard that these pyromaniacs, if caught, will be charged with murder and so they should!

Budgies Eyes
Thanks Elly, I'll try and get one up soon, however I don't think you'll be able to see much. She is keeping it open more than she was yesterday so perhaps that means she's on the mend. I won't be taming the 2 birds I have as they will be going outside once I get an aviary. When they have babies I want to bring one inside for taming.

Budgies Eyes
I must admit I am a little nervous. I have had the birds for only a few weeks and have never handled them, I haven't even put my hand in the cage as yet. Thanks for the great advice though Kaz. I think I'll give it a whirl.

Budgies Eyes
Not quite sure if I have anything to worry about but I was watching my two birds (Max and Angie) and Max was grooming the top of Angies head and then i noticed her eye. She was keeping it closed and upon further observation I noticed she was rubbing the eye on her perch and scratching it. I'm not sure whether Max may have accidentally caught her in the eye with his beak or if she did with her claws. It appears to be clean looking (not scaly), just the immediate feathers around it just looked a bit disturbed from rubbing it. I'm going to keep an eye on it and see how it goes, hopefully its nothing to worry about.

Lost Birds In Heat
- Lost Birds In Heat
So sorry to hear of your loss AV and anyone else who has lost any birds because of this insane heat. I hope this won't become a yearly thing. I really feel for the birds in this weather, they suffer so badly.- Heatwave Coming...
Yep, I heard on the radio today a man at the Cross Keys Hotel was holding a thermometer outside and it reached 50 degrees!!! Who would have ever imagined we would see temperatures like that in Adelaide. Fingers crossed for some decent relief...soon.- Heatwave Coming...
don't go thanking anyone too soon Hills, looks like we won't see anything below 40 on Monday and every day leading up to it, some are even suggesting the heat wave will last until Feb 9... At least in melbourne you get the breeze from the Bass Strait. As for the birds, I can't believe how much the little critters are suffering. Mine are fortunate...at the moment. They're in a cage that can be moved in and out of the house. Had to bring the poor things in this morning at 6am! It was already 34 and they were panting already. Dread to think how they'll cope when they go into the aviary.- Boy Or Girl
okay, now I am confused. To me, I would have said he was a hen. Firstly, because the cere appears brown and, secondly, I thought the cere should be showing signs of turning blue by now. I think I need lessons in sexing...lol.- Boy Or Girl
When I bought this budgie, it is supposed to be a male but I am sceptical. What do you think? The one on the right (which you can only see its beak) is apparently a hen. http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp193/L...09/DSC01212.jpg- New To The Forum
I do have some babies at the moment and some breeders that are available for sale. PM me if you ever want to come by and have a look Gender.... hmmmm.... looks like your sky blue double factor pied is a cock and your green... spangle (i think), is a hen. Cheers Liv, thanks for your offer, I will definitely keep you in mind. I don't think I'm quite ready to purchase any more birds just yet. I think I'll wait until I have my aviary and am loaded with all the info I need for breeding, hehe. Max is only 6 months old and Angie is 4 months so I've got plenty of time up my sleeve. At the moment I am quite happy getting to know them and I love watching them. I don't have any intention in taming them considering that they will end up outside in the aviary, i think it would be too cruel to let them bond with me and then put them outside. I will most likely keep one of their babies for taming.- New To The Forum
Yes, your name popped up in a post about breeders in Adelaide and I noticed that you are indeed just down the road from me. I was actually hoping that I might be able to purchase a budgie from you in the near future. what do you think of the sex of my birds? The white is supposed to be the male and the green is meant to be the female. Thankyou all for your welcoming comments, I look forward to chatting further with you all soon.- New To The Forum
Hi everyone. My name is Leanne and I live in Adelaide. I got a cage for xmas (98cmx80.5cmx10.5cm) and purchased two budgies today. Their names are Max and Angie. Angie (the yellow/green bird) is meant to be the female( 4 mnths old) and Max (the white bird), the male (6 mnths old). Does that look right? I will be getting a larger aviary soon and I would like to breed from Max and Angie so as to have more birds. Then I think I will use the cage just for selective breeding. I have learnt a lot from the forum already and look forward to learning more and chatting with you all. Look forward to your feedback.- New To The Forum
