  1. Believe it or not but she WILL get used to your hand coming in to the cage...it just takes a little time and patience on your part...after all, to her it is a HUGE thing coming in to her home...and she has no where to take cover... You're doing a fabulous job, stick with it!
  2. You are doing a fantastic job, you sound like a kind and patient person so this lovely looking bird is very lucky. You'll have your up and downs with the bird, some days they progress other days they start to slip a little backwards but with time and love I think Minx will be a great friend. She's completely gorgeous looking too
  3. They are little honeys...you've obviously got a great set up there - they all look happy and healthy.
  4. I love the one singing while play the piano LOL
  5. all sounds good...my boy even likes the broccoli stalks...oh and don't forget carrot
  6. Very cute photo. I love when they sit in their seed dish, you are lucky he still likes to do it even though he's a big boy now.
  7. ^^ all I can say to that is 'HOLY PUCK!' hahaha. Seriously though, that is incredible. KAZ, we need to see the video of the bird talking, that sounds so funny! See, I'm not so sure tht too many words confuses them as I tried to teach Gill with only one word and then the sneaky so and so learnt the other words himself....infact, he learnt the other words far far better and quicker!
  8. I'm very sorry to hear this news. It is natural to be very sad but try to remember all the wonderful things he did and how he made you laugh....he will live on your heart forever.
  9. Thanks all for the responses...right, now I need to think of some more things to train him to say! Of course, the strangest thing is that I never taught him 'good boy', 'okay', 'cmon', 'whatchyadoing' or the dog's name...he picked those up himself ... which is embarrassing because that hints at how common they are in MY vocab...mm...perhaps I need to train MYSELF with new words first....LOL :glare:
  10. What a sweetie he is I love his pale yellow face
  11. Just what the title says - is there a limit to how many words budgies can learn? I got my Gill in December when he was 7 weeks of age....for the past few weeks he has been speaking and has (in my opinion) quite a good vocab, he can say: good boy you a good boy? his name and variations on it his knickname the dog's name hallo okay whatchyadoing? He's very bright :emoticon112: - am i pushing it too much to expect him to learn more? will he forget what he knows if I try? (we have 'homework' regularly on his words throught the day including those he already knows). I so love my little boy.

He's a lovely little boy, an absolute gem
  13. He's insanely gorgeous and the photos are a delight - he must have been a supermodel in his past life!!

Aw that's very sad. In one way it was good though - your other bird wasn't exposed to him so won't get ill. really sad though (and for the record: I know who Liz Taylor is and was looking forward to seeing a photo of a bird with her colour eyes).
  15. ^^ sounds like I should have been born a budgie! :ohmygod:
  16. Thanks All...I will try to grab a video of him doing it and post it. Mmm...I don't think he is flirting because it happened about 30 mins after he was put back into his cage (after being outside of it and playing for about an hour) - the cage wasn't close to me - it was on a table in the centre of the room and I was on the sofa about 5 feet away. Right, let me arm myself with a camera...
  17. My little fella was about 7-8 weeks when I got him on 21 December and he seems to be going through a molt right now....he's also taken to 'clucking'....is this a standard part of his development? I've never had a budgie that clucks before?! I haven't made the noise to him and neither has anyone else...he's dreamed it up all himself. He can go many hours just chattering to himself and them BOOM he'll go off on a clucking frenzy. When I watched him last night his whole body moved with the cluck and it was almost as if he was throwing up a little? (although I didn't see any vomit)

If you can get a small plastic canister (I use the canister that house disposable gloves in a store bought packet of hair dye) you can put some rice in, seal it up and give it to your budgie to play with...my Gil loves it coz he loves to make a bit of noise. There is another post on these boards about creating a foraging environment for your bird....very interesting ideas you could use to keep your little one happy and active.
  19. flying dinosaurs ????? LOL! Sunday Girl - the name of a really (cold as ice cream but still as) sweet Blondie song. Deborah Harry originally wrote the song about her cat called Sunday Man that went missing and she found out later that an old man down the street had adopted a stray cat that looked a lot like her Sunday Man
  20. OMG! He is a gorgeous little fella...and I love his name! Give him a bellyrub from me.
  21. I'm loving these ideas....I like to give my little one things to do to keep him occupied and you've just provided TONNES of great ideas - thanks :feedbirds:
  22. He probably had something to eat while you were asleep. I understand you are concerned but give the little fella time, you've been given some great advice here.....partially cover the cage so he doesn't feel 'exposed' on all sides and just let him calm down and get used to the new sights, smells and sounds. Good luck, he's a lucky little fella to have an owner that cares about him. :budgiedance:
  23. Aw sweet, you are a good owner. They look very happy
  24. Why do budgies always rub themselves against fresh strawberries in their cage? (can you tell my Gill's feet are a funny shade of red today, along with his tail, AND he has strawberry footmarks all along his perch?)
  25. Ow this is so sad. I can't offer any words of wisdom but all the info above sounds great. Keep us updated and it is fantastic that you care so much about your little one.
