You will find with any animals, us included that the body adapts. His little feet/stumps will develop calisis to protect the bones. Simalar to our heals. He will adapt and with your help, have an enjoyible life. Well done floppingfish, many would have over looked him or brought him home only to find out its "too hard" and he would have been neglected. He's lucky to find you

i couldn't resist
When I breed budgies many years ago. I had a babie hatch with 1 and 1/2 wings and only stubs for feet. I was told to humainly kill him, but couldn't. There is the story in the forum here somewhere. I'll look for it, save retyping it. I ended up adjusting the aviary to suit him. Found It

I don't see any point in continuing Quarantine in this event. They have, you assumed, been together all night. I would though keep a closer eye on them. If you see any signs of illness eg watery droppings. I would have both check out as soon as possible. Being in together, it is hard to tell whick bird left the droppings.

getting mum to agree
As a parent, i'll give you a clue. you say Mum. I need another 99p to save up for the nest box. Can I do some extra chores (I assume you do chores) to ern the money. She'll think of a few things you can do. My kids always asks me this way. I always find things for them to do.

Safe/Unsafe Items for your birds
The day before Alex died he got a habbit of chewing the dried flowers in an arrangement. Guess what is in the toxic list EUCALYPTUS (DRIED, DYED OR TREATED IN FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS) I checked and that was his favourite bit he was chewing. Poor Alex, I didn't know.

Budgie too old?
I am so sorry to hear that she has past away. It is a comon story of parents that put a cost to a bird. Emotional value of a bird is priceless. How is the other one going? I see you've got 2 budgies in your details.

Ringing
If too late, What for them to fledge and you can use a split ring. I ring my Aviary Birds when I get them. Just so I can track the young.

Help!
GofD how are the budgies today. I am so sorry to hear about the problems. You must be stressing out. Have you had a thought to what it maybe? I had a similar problem years ago when I first started to Breed Budgies. One by one they started to die and I didn't know why. I feed them the same that I had been doing for months and they okay. But then they started to die. I found out that my father had started to use posions on weeds in the garden. I was feeding them thistle, which they loved. He didn't know I was feeding them the thistle. I didn't know he was spraying it. I lost 12 birds over a weeks period. It was heart breaking. Check to see if some one is spraying or using something around the aviary. It may drift in on the wind.

So who would the father be?
Bea is correct or incorrect. Let me explain. The female will deliver eggs every two days from the ovium. She would have save up the sperm to fertilise the eggs. As she has mated with a number of males. It would be difficult to determine the father except for DNA testing. Also to remember is although you saw the act, it may or may not have been successful. Reasons for Not succeeding in egg laying. Recognising when our Budgerigars are in an active fertile cycle, or breeding condition, is not always an easy task. Even the most experienced breeders have put up birds that have failed to go to nest, been ?out of cycle?, or have not fertilised their eggs. In fact, some studies suggest that up to 76% of all infertile Budgerigar eggs laid in captive breeding programs are due to: 1. Failure to mate due to lack of pair bonding. 2. Incorrect apposition of genitalia during mating. 3. The cock or hen not being in a fertile cycle. Hope this helps. You will have to wait for the eggs to hatch and see what you have?

single parent
The mother should cope if she only has three chicks. If the other breading pairs have chicks of roughly the same age you can try fostering out. Here's some info on Feeding and Weaning Chicks. Master Breeder.
