  1. Thanks Kaz, our three boys have nice looking wings, would Sunny's crossed wings Dominant or Recessive? Being new to this, I just thought it cute! Our local pet shops have loads of normal greens that don't sell, but anything a little different is gone before the day is out! That's why we want to breed a wide range of pretty colours and mutations, as well as the fact that we like them too! We have a great pet shop in Grafton that has made space for three large indoor aviaries (about 1.5 x 4 metres each) crammed into a tiny shop and they really take care of all their animals - if we breed successfully, our babies will go there for pet homes.
  2. Thanks MB, I'm starting to understand - I certainly could learn plenty more though! It's a bit of a shame to realise we won't get the dilute colouring from these two, but not the end of the world, their chicks should still be pretty. After seeing one of the photos posted on this sight I know that I aim to get a YF Violet Recessive Pied Female for our Sky Recessive Male - that might be getting hard to find!
  3. She's definately not a Show Girl, hasn't got the legs for it So can crossed wings mean poor diet?
  4. Thanks....how to make a budgie nappy....hmmm.
  5. I can't say for sure what they are (other than cute), but will be interested to find out what others think about the one with the blue bum! I'm loving those yellow faces ! They are definately all too cute!
  6. I've just noticed how our four budgies hold their wings differently - is it a behaviour thing or genetic? What's the ideal position of the wings?

Good luck ! I can't wait to see your new birds !
  8. Of Course - I should have known about Green silly me! Yes Jimmy, we've had the bird for a few hours now, and already the brain is ticking over with future plans
  9. okay, so now that I know what Sunny is, if I paired her with Sky, what mutations would their chicks have? If I'm right, then they can't be split for Greywing or Cinnamon, none of the chicks will be either - therefore no dilutes? 50% Dominent Pied, 50% Spangle, 50% Yellowface Type 2, 100% Opaline. Is there any chance of a Green Normal? Will they all be Sky Blue? THANKYOU, GENETICS IS SO MUCH FUN! Sky (cock) is a Sky Blue Clearflight Dominent Pied Opaline Greywing Sunny (hen) is a Sky Blue Yellowface Type 2 Opaline Cinnamon Spangle
  10. Gee, thanks! Try saying that fast three times :28: At least I got the YF2 and dilute I wanted - and female :laughter: Let's hope she gets better soon!
  11. Well the day started poorly for me with two kids squarking at me like magpie chicks until my brain turned to mush. I then went to get in the car to pick up my husband from town after masters' swimming because I don't like him riding his bike home in the rain... and the kids left the door open and let our Toy Poodle out She took off like a missile because we got new neighbours and their pets yesterday, so she is unsettled, and of course the kids ran after her with me screaming in the background "Don't chase her, she'll think it's a game!" After an hour of driving around the streets squeeking her favourite toy with two kids in the backseat crying their eyes out, we finally found her! She'd had a great time, and run about a kilometre away from home. I still needed to go back to town AGAIN to pick up groceries. My daughter decided to come with me .... and we came home with a budgie! This sweet little bird seems very tame and lively BUT when I sprayed her with Pyrethrin I found that she's very thin and has a pooey bum :laughter: I've turned down so many gorgeous budgies lately just because they were male and now I make an impulse decision - I don't believe it! I've got her quarantined with Supplements and Antibiotics in her water, and a warm light on as she's drying off - what else should I do? ALSO, what mutation is she, how old do you think she is ..... and am I right that she is a girl?

You have many gorgeous birds! I really adore your YF2 recessive pied :party0011: Now I want one!
  13. 88. When you start hanging around in places you are likely to meet other bird nuts in the hope you'll just bump into one! 89. When you tell yourself "I know I set a limit, but this bird is too good to miss...one more won't hurt!"
  14. :party0011: Will look for more toy parts tomorrow! What fun!

Thanks to all the great people on this forum with great ideas, my daughter had so much fun making some toys for our budgies...we just had to give them an early Christmas! She's very clever don't you think? Sky has claimed the swing: Cloud loves the dangling toy: Don't know what to make for Twilight yet...hmmmm?

Jadon and Kasey look very happy together - and so cute !!! I'd be teaching Kasey to toilet on the grass or a "MINI WEE" pet toilet like what I've got now. I'm only saying that because I have a gorgeous little Toy Poodle who is the first paper-trained dog I've ever owned, and if the kids leave anything on the floor she pees on it :tut_tut: thinking she's doing the right thing! It's SO ANNOYING !!! All other dogs I've owned would rather cross their legs than go in the house! Best of luck with your beautiful new furbaby! :laughter:

It sounds like your bird has a similar history to mine! Sky had an unusual multicoloured cere when I bought him, but it has slowly faded to blue with only a small amount of brown left. He had a big crack rigt up his beak and was being bullied by the other birds in his cage, so very stressed. If your bird is like Sky, some TLC should nurse him back to health! Sky is still timid, but seems a lot healthier and happier now! I am also hoping to breed from him when he's well enough. Good luck! Sky's beak when I bought him:
  22. I'm new here, and I too struggle with forum-style communicating - but DON'T GO !!! This is such a great forum, the only one I've ever wanted to be a part of, and you are part of it - if you go there'll be something missing! I've enjoyed reading your posts and learnt plenty from you, PLEASE STAY!
  23. Thanks Elly, That helps a lot
  24. Thanks, I've learnt two new things today - 1.Greywing being a different gene to dilute 2.Greywing being dominent over dilute even though its a recessive gene - WOW !!! 2budgies
  25. :hap: I have future plans to pair up "Sky" our sky blue clearflight pied greywing opaline cock with a yellowface 2 dilute sky blue hen. My question is about the dilute part - does the greywing gene combine with dilute to give dilute chicks, or are they two different genes? I really want some dilutes. Thanks :22:
