Post Pictures: Of Your Dogs
First there's Oskar who sadly passed away suddenly in 2008. He was a very fit and playful 4 year old Weimaraner. He had just earnt his Endurance Title, and finished looking like he could do it all again! Then there's our Toy Poodle Molly who loves fine fashion and feels very insecure if she doesn't have clothes on! What a little princess she is! For a poodle, Molly can't swim well - without a life jacket, her butt sinks and she panicks! And last but not least, Chachi is the only dog we've had that didn't cost us an arm and a leg - in fact he cost us nothing! He's a gorgeous Australian Shepherd who was surrendered to the RSPCA after having three toes cut off by a lawnmower, then kindly fostered until we got him. He runs with my husband, but has to wear very expensive running shoes to protect his injured paw. He is incredibly affectionate and we love that he's a part of our family! Thankyou to all those who have posted their cute pooches, they all look so loved!

Buffy...
Awww, so sorry for your loss. I lost my 14 year old Somali cat yesterday, and I can't help thinking about all the years we shared and the history we had. At least our guys had long lives and passed on knowing that they were loved. I hope you really enjoy your new pup!

Congratulations Misty! The photo is so cute - it makes me wonder what's going through that sweet little bird brain?

Name Game For My New Budgie!
Call it "BB" (stands for Blue Bird) - as my Grandfather always said, "May the Blue Bird of happiness poop upon your shoulder!"

She's Beautiful, But What Is She?
Wow!!! Thanks everyone - looks like I got two beautiful birds with the right goods to have beautiful babies! I couldn't be happier! Thanks again

She's Beautiful, But What Is She?
Go Twilight! Do you think Lacey has a dark factor too?
-
She's Beautiful, But What Is She?
Thanks, The breeder told me that Lacey is a mauve, so has the "dark factor" I'm after. I know it's hard to get the colours to come out right in a photo, but please tell me she has dark factor! At first sight I thought her tummy was dark grey, but it's actually a mauve (violet grey) which looks amazing against the yellow! It sounds like we'll get loads of pretty colour & pattern combinations in the chicks!

She's Beautiful, But What Is She?
Hello, I'm home again! After 1 1/2 weeks away, it's good to be back....and we have a new budgie! Lacey joined us while we were in Sydney. Unfortunately, the car was so fully loaded, she had to go straight in with the others without quarantine. They are all on antibiotics at the moment as a precaution, but all are well. We now have five birds from five different breeders, so no inbreeding. We are hoping to pair Lacey with Twilight (pictured in the fourth photo). Twilight is a georgeous visual violet who I hope is split for recessive pied (small white spot on the back of his head) and maybe opaline as well - he has some colour through his wings. Please let me know what mutations Lacey has, and what I'd be likely to get if I paired her with Twilight. We have five budgies now- Cloud and Sunny appear to have pair-bonded, Sky is a loner with "sexual health issues", and these two are starting to make eyes at each other  ! So what do people think?

Ace Colony Aviaries
Thanks Guys, Will do!

Ace Colony Aviaries
Is there a breeder in Sydney with a YF Cobalt or Violet Recessive Pied Hen available?
-
Ace Colony Aviaries
My daughter and I are looking for a Yellowface (type 1 or 2) violet or cobalt recessive pied hen. We thought we'd go to ACE COLONY AVIARIES to have a look for one since they have so many birds - what do you think - is it an okay place to buy a budgie?

Neville - And Everybody - Please Take A Look At Sky And Tell Me Dom. P
Well I've been dying to get it cleared up exactly what Sky is, but haven't been able to go on the forum for almost TWO WHOLE DAYS!!! (I really am hooked!) So far I know that he's a male with "sexual issues" which seem to be improving, he's almost got a normal blue beak now. BUT in some photos he looks Dominant Pied and Opaline, others not. Could you please all look at him again, I'm hoping this is a more imformative photo? He does have feathers permanently missing from the back of his head from being picked on before I got him - and he's got vegie face! I may consider breeding from him in the future, so would love to know as much as I can about his genetics. Thanks

My Horrible Day That Ended Up With A New Budgie- What Is She?
Weims are a bit like that...high achievers! Hopefully our Australian Shepherd can get a few letters after his name too once we can convince him to keep his shoe on his injured paw! I know the kids loved tracking with our Airedale, I think our Aussie would love it too! ....and agility...Oh what fun! Thanks for the :budgiedance: chat!

My Horrible Day That Ended Up With A New Budgie- What Is She?
Wow!!! Thanks for that Sailorwolf I found you info very interesting and helpful!Years ago we lost a beautiful Airedale Terrier to a secondary illness from a paralysis tick (only 18 months old) because her vet told us that she reacted badly to Proban - sadly the topical treatment didn't protect her well enough - it wasn't the tick that killed her but what it gave her. She deteriorated over a period of about 6 weeks, while we tried everything to save her! Then we got a beautiful Wemaraner, and lost him earlier his year - our vet suspected either snake bite or bloat as we found him dead in his kennel one morning with small blood spots on his hind leg and nose, and some vomit. We didn't even hear his usual groan or roll over that night - heard nothing! He was only 4 years old and just earnt his Endurance Title this year. We tried to do everything we could to spoil our dogs, but tragically lost two beautiful animals far too early. Now we have a rescued 2 year old Australian Shepherd (with three toes missing from being run over with a lawnmower) and he is gorgeous! He's had a really rough start, but now he's with us and we're spoiling him rotten! I guess what I'm trying to say is that having been heartbroken twice before, I AM TAKING NO CHANCES with this guy! Thanks for your info :thanks: Thanks MB, will cook some egg this morning!

My Horrible Day That Ended Up With A New Budgie- What Is She?
Gee, I hope it's okay I got it from the vet - Avitrol Bird Mite & Lice Spray - Pyrethrins are the active ingredients. It also has something to leave their feathers glossy. It is designed to be used as a preventative as well as a cure. I just spray them once for a new bird in quarantine to reduce the risk of spreading anything to the others. They haven't shown any ill effects from it. I have used the Avitrol brand Bird Wormer for years (on my Alexandrine until he flew away earlier this year) and thought it was a good brand. I know Ivermectin is recommended on the forum, but my worry is that my husband is likely to get it mixed up with our Australian Shepherd's medications (Proban for ticks, Sentinel for intestinal & heartworm etc) and our dog has a fatal allergy to Ivermectin - as most collie breeds do. I'm too worried to have it in the house! Is there anything you could suggest to help her pooey bum get better, and to fatten her up?

Our New Budgie Crosses Her Wings - Is It Behaviour Or Genetic?
Thanks everybody, my plans for this cute little girl are: 1. Fatten her up and make her healthy. 2. Let her settle in until this time next year (so that she's definately at least 12 months old) 3. Think about whether or not to pursue breeding from her. She's very tame! Sunny happily steps up, and kept landing on my outstreched arm when I let her out earlier. I wonder if she was hand-raised, she's certainly very sweet-natured!

~what Are We?
PLEASE help Una find out what her chicks are ! Mine is only a guess: 1. Olive Recessive Pied hen 2. Violet Normal hen (really a stab in the dark about the sex) 3. Yellow Face Violet Normal hen (another guess) Don't rely on my guesses, but I'd love to know how far off the mark I am!

Budgie Type?
just had to get this thread started again... English and American budgies... I know how much we all LOVE this topic!!! :ohmygod: I had a budgie breeder standing next to me in the petshop tell me today "I don't like the big English budgies, they're not from around here! I only like the budgies from Australia! :what: That's funny, I thought...they all had the same accent!
