Who Wants To Guess...
I hope it passes and you feel better soon! I had really bad morning sickness the whole pregnancy with my daughter and none at all with my son - has anybody else had that experience? I was told it was something to do with the mum's body tolerating the boy's hormones better, don't know how true that is? I also had "happy hormones" with my son - I could have the worst day and it wouldn't phase me - it was cool, I wish it lasted! My husband used to bring me a cup of tea in bed to make me feel better, he still does that now and my daughter's 10! How sweet is that

Jwancia's New Small Flock.
Nice birds! I love the expression in the second photo of your new cock - it just screams out for a Jimmy Banks funny caption! Actually, I think there are quite a few on the forum who could come with something - HINT HINT!

Post Pictures : Of Your Cats
Last January my sweet Lilac point Siamese "Milo" passed away. He was 15 years old. I thought we'd lose my Tawny Somali "Zulu" soon after because they were so attached. Zulu passed away on New Year's day this year also aged 15 years - Somalis normally only make 10-12 years. They will both be sadly missed, but never replaced. They brought me such joy - Milo the sophisticated gentleman, and Zulu the wild, flamboyant one! They were the true odd couple. Milo: Zulu: Sorry for the poor quality scanned photos, doing a big tidy up at the moment and can't find anything.

I think tetanus shots are intramuscular? It might be worth a Google search to see if you can do anything to make it better. I have monthly B12 shots in the arm muscle, it always hurts more if I'm tense - one day when the kids were winding each other up, the needle wouldn't go in properly - nearly snapped and all the B12 liquid came running out :fear ! What a waste of my red go-go juice! It still hurts going in, but I'm getting better at preparing myself for it - which reminds me, I'm due for another one...

Who Wants To Guess...
I agree, my daughter is a 27th of December baby (2 1/2 weeks overdue and oversized) and I remember that Christmas not being able to reach the turkey on the table - or fit it in! She's 10 and still curses the timing of her birthday. So well done on your excellent timing, if I was a baby, I'd be happy to be born in September! :fear

25+ Budgies Advertised In Local Paper.
Good luck Trish! You're doing an amazing job of keeping it all together, I don't know how you managed to talk to the man without wrapping your hands around his neck! It wont take long for the birds to realise they've won Budgie Lotto with you!

Has Anyone Dna Sexed A Bird Before?
Damn, I just looked at the pinned Budgie Expectations Table for Opaline - I got it all wrong! :hap: If the female shows the sex linked gene and the male is split for it, then babies will be 50/50 visual for it (visually normal males being split for the gene). Why does it have to be so hard?

Has Anyone Dna Sexed A Bird Before?
Charlie's so cute Splat ! Comet only makes two short monotone sounds over and over "Kree, Kree" , so doesn't sound like your Charlie - how would you describe "his" sounds? By the way, I'm thinking everyone's right (about Comet being female, not about Budgies being the best)! I was thinking back - there were three normal grey cockatiels in one cage and three pearls in another - I think from the one breeder and clutch. So that would mean the pearls would have to be female. They could only be male if both parents were pearl or the dad was split to pearl - but then there couldn't be any normal greys produced.... I hope this makes sense, I read that Pearl is the equivalent of Opaline in Budgies as far as how the sex-linked gene works. (My computer has been working hard to answer all my questions!) Budgies are really great, but so are all the other birds :hap:

Has Anyone Dna Sexed A Bird Before?
Thanks Neat, I'm hoping you are right so that the pretty pearling stays! I'm still considering DNA testing, I'm not that patient to "wait & see", and I want to know for sure. I only plan to get a mate for Comet and then stop buying birds. When we breed them, I know we will want to keep one of the handraised chicks, and that already makes 8 birds not including all the chicks. That's plenty to have to ask the neighbour to feed when we go away!

My little bite wound is nothing really, I just felt like a big sook! Serves me right for handling an aviary-bred bird without gloves! I got my WIRES bird handling gloves out after that! When I saw your post introducing Charlie, I had to rush out and get a Cockatiel ! I'd been thinking about it, but Charlie is such a cutie with such pretty markings, I couldn't wait any longer! When I know what sex our Cockatiel is, I'll get a mate and raise some chicks to keep one (just one) as a pet for my daughter. I hope you can get some Hiradoid cream, it's not magic, but close to it! Don't put it on your fingers though, it's not for open wounds. :sadsorry:

Hey Splat, our new Cockatiel bit me hard today. :fear I wanted to cry  , I wanted a hug :sadsorry: , and I wanted someone to kiss my BooBoo ! That made me wonder how your fingers are going? Any less pain? I know that Hiradoid cream works well after blood tests or other bruising, maybe you could try that for the Tetanus arm so you get some good sleep. I hope your fingers are feeling better soon .

Has Anyone Dna Sexed A Bird Before?
Thanks Guys, Comet definately bites like a girl! I might take Jimmy's advice and post on Liv's Cockatiel Forum as I've read that Males can be Pearl too until their first moult at 6 months, and some have even been bred to retain Pearling. I really want to be sure, as I can't keep buying birds - just one more!

Has Anyone Dna Sexed A Bird Before?
We have just added Comet - a 4 month old aviary-bred Cockatiel to our flock. We would like to get an opposite sex partner for Comet so that we can breed them when they are old enough .... BUT.... we need to find out Comet's gender. I know our Alexandrine was DNA sexed for me by the breeder, but I can't find the paperwork. Do you have to pluck a feather from the poor bird, or can you use one that recently fell out naturally? Also, what company do I send it to, does anyone know?

It sounds very painful, I hope it heals quickly for you! A friend of mine cut through tendons in her hand recently with one of those canopeners that remove the lid. The big tin of beetroot she just opened was falling off the bench. She rushed to catch it, and ended up having two lots of microsurgery and months of physio - could hardly do anything for months and still has a pinky finger that wont bend properly. She told me she really wished it was the middle finger instead so that she could let the manufacturer of the can opener really know what she thought! She had fun telling the physio that she injured her hand pole dancing! I guess what I'm saying is that it can seem bad at the time, but hopefully it will heal quickly, and you can use it as your next topic of conversation at a party. :fear
