  1. What does everyone do to there birds to get them ready for the breeding season? What does everyone do when they get some new birds? What do they put them on? What is there cycle and how long do they do it for? I am wanting to put all of my birds through it, but not sure what to do. I am wanting to ensure that all birds that i purchase in future i do this with. At present i purchase birds from good breeders, and buy pairs of them so i just put them straight into the breeding cabinet. Havent lost any birds, but have noticed a few pairs of late that i have purchased have gone into a moult after i got them home. the breeder told me it could be due to change in there diet. Advice please.

  6. I am getting myself a new breeding room, so i am about to take all of the birds and put them into holding cages for about 2-3 weeks. Im hoping it wont take me that long to get it all up. Im getting a shed 4.6m ( length ) x 2.5m ( width ). I am wanting to know what people suggest for me to put the birds on, giving i have this time to try and get them in the best condition prior to putting them down to breed. I have been advised that Psittavet is good to use. What is everyone's thoughts, and can anyone else recomend anything else. What multi vitamin do people have there birds on whilst breeding to keep them as healthy as possible.
  7. Look in the forum under aviaries :hap: im pretty sure that is the section i posted this post in.

Would love to see some pictures of how people have it set up. if anyone has there breeding room in a shed type setup, how do they find it works? Does it get very hot in there? Do you use lights to ensure that you have enough light? if so what time does it go on and off? What do you have on the floor? concrete? Do you have windows or whirly bird to allow air flow?

is that plastic, that you can pull down? If so where did you get it from? or did you make it yourself?
  12. THe water looks orangey to me. When i empty the water container it has a pinky tinge left to it then, but when i make up the formula 30ml to 10 litres it is an orangy colour.
  13. Do you use it in your birds water? If so how dark is it? I think i might have added to much of it to the water. I think i did about 60ml to 10 litres.
  14. Does anyone use this product? I was given a tip by a good breeder, who uses this in his budgies water. This breeder has great birds, and are all healthy. He says the condition of his birds is due to this product. It is hospital grade. How much of this product do you mix to a litre? I got some today but it only talks about chickens on the product.
  15. I moved the boxes do they werent hanging from the side doors that are lower down, to the front doors where they are up nice and high, and straight away it has made a difference. Alot of the birds are now interested in the box.
  16. there are no mice as they cant get it. The premises is kept very clean.
  17. theres no time like the present!
  18. forgot to let you know was at bunnings and in the wood section they have ply wood that would be the right side to use as dividers. its is long and they can cut it to size for you fre of charge. it was only about $8 i think from memory for the sheet that would do a few dividers. is that so they have some feed in the box?
  19. do you put anything inside your boxes, like wood shavings?
  20. i think you might be correct. it was to dark to go outside and have a look. that is why i thinking if i cut the wire in the corners and hang then from the very top corner, will this make any difference. where do you hang your boxes from?
  21. they do seem very edgy when i go in there of a night time.i am doing things around them with the setup which could be disturbing them.all shall be finished by the weekend, and then i can go in there for the next two weeks and see how that goes, by only going in there every 2 days.all hens are 07 they get a full day of light. it is open to sunlight.the sun doesnt shine on the breeding area but allows plenty of light in there section.i think if i change the side cage pieces that could do the trick.i shall try doing that tomorrow morning and see how it looks.Does anyone have pictures of how there boxes hang, if they hang there boxes off the side of the cages.
  22. Kaz, do you think i would be better to cut the wire up in the corners of the cabinets and hang the boxes so they are up higher for the birds? Will this help, do they prefer the boxes to be up higher?
  23. what is it that you put in the bottom of your breeding boxes?
  24. they are lowish, as they are hanging off the side of the flight cages. ie got the extra large flight cages with the separators, and with the large cages the have the doors on the side of the cage. the boxes are as high as possible, but still so that the hole is below the top of the door for easy access into the box. is it worth catching the hen and putting her in the box. they are all young birds, and are there first round.
