  1. i think there is actually 6 variations of pieds.
  2. Does anyone have a link so i can print off the cards that you attach to the side of the breeding box when pairing your birds up to keep records. Does anyone happen to have this?
  3. does anyone know what whos rings these are? NSW - DJ1 BCV-BB8 SWN-RTH MBE-BAS i also have alot of birds with the initials GG. I was told these are Gazzard birds.
  4. i can never get onto his website. do you know what it is? the link from here never works.
  5. Daz, What card system do you use on the boxes to monitor when they were paired up, eggs, eggs hatching etc? Is there anywhere you can print them off online for free?
  6. i like the spangle hen. she lacks a little size in the head, but hopefully as i cant really see from the pics that the sky blue cock has a big head which shall add to the size of the head with this pairing.Do you know what you shall get from this pairing? Did you pair your birds wanting a particular outcome? I dont put a hen into a cabinet until she is in breeding condition. I do however put the cock into the cabinet by himself if the hen is only 2 weeks off before she is ready so he gets lonely and then when i put the hen in there the cock shall pester the living day lights out of the hen.
  7. I was speaking with Vetfarm and they advised me that Moulting Aid is better to use on your birds than calcivet as it stronger, moulting aid is for when birds are in stress and need the extra boost when they are moulting. i was advised that moulting aid is great for when the birds are moulting, breeding and for the babies in the nappy cage until they go through there moults. keeps all birds nice and strong. my birds havent looked healthier since giving them moulting aid in there water, and a few extra products on there vegies. cant remember the name of the stuff i put on there vegies but shall look at it when in the bird room next.

  9. Does anywhere know if there is a web based program that you can go to to find out what ring codes belong to what breeder? there is a few rings some of my birds have i would like to know who they came from.
  10. DO you colony breed? Or do you have a seperate breeding room?
  11. Arent you breeding currently?DO you have any pictures of your setup? My aim is to breed quality yellow face violet dominant pieds.I have 30 + pairs currently that all have a pied in the cabinet. so i should hopefully breed at least 100 dominant pieds this year.
  12. WHat area in sydney are you from? IS the ace colonies you are thinking of going to in wenthworthville? THe bloke who owns it is Rob. Nice bloke, definately knows what he is talking about. funny enough Rob has plenty of pairs he is in the midst of pairing up which shall all be YF, violets etc. There is hundreds of birds in the shops to pick from. Looking at about $30 on average for a good bird for there.
  13. that does sound familar. it looks like long skinny seed in a way??
  14. THought i would find out what everyone here is trying to breed? Obviously those who show are trying to breed the best possible bird for the show table. What type of variety are you trying to specialise in? Im trying to breed dominant pieds mainly, but have a few pairs of spangle dominant pieds, spangles. All of my dominant pieds are with a normal so i shall get nice normals along the way too. Would be interested to see what everyone else is trying to breed. Also how many breeding cabinets are you running, and how many birds are you aiming to breed in 09?
  15. What does everyone use inside there breeding boxes? I use wood shavings. allows me to know if the hen has been in the box. 99% of the birds all throw out majority of the shavings. I was at a breeders place today and he used something else which look like seed. cant remember what he called it. think it was somehting husks.
  16. Alot of the birds are from the same line in one way or another. There is alot of ernie wise blood lines, and Carter and a few others just to name a few. I am wanting to build my own line so it is basically a 5 year plan. It will take a few years to have what i am trying to achieve. I have paid some big $$ to get some pairs and birds that are really good. Wasnt easy getting them off the breeders, and i only got them as they had plenty of brothers and sisters that year from the same birds. It is all trial and error. Everyone has there own theory, but i am wanting to specialise in Dominant Pieds. Violets.
  17. I shall have to wait and see how it goes. Getting the correct breeding environment is important. Hopefully i shall have a good start as alot of the birds are very young, ie no older than 3 years. Most are green ringers. I shall do what most breeders do and keep all babies until they have had there first mult, from there shall get rid of the ones that dont look anything, but dont get rid of many at this stage. always wait a year before i do a cull. I have got good bloodlines so i am expecting good things.
  18. No the birds that i got shall be going down as how i bought them. they arent paired up, but i bought them as pairs. they gave me cocks and hens that worked to achieve what im wanting to achieve. im wanting to breed dominant pieds. shall have 40 pairs. every pair shall have a dominant pied basically. I have a few pairs of normals though to keep up the quality of my normals. if you look under my flock there is a picture of a few of my birds. my new birds are alot better than these.
  19. I was at a breeders place the other day, and he had all of his birds that werent breeding in these cages. he said he liked them in these as he can ensure that they are kept as healthy as possible and not able to eat anything off the floor as they could in a flight. What is everyone's thoughts. the cages are 147cmx46cmx109cm. they are just an extra big flight cage!
  20. I have been to some breeders in Sydney who have won Nationals, and because im only starting out they have helped me out with some cracker of birds. Depending on the breeder i have paid $50 - $150 a pair. they ask you what you are wanting to achieve, and if you are joining there club they shall help you out. I saw a champion breeder the other day and got the best birds i have ever seen. THe quality this bloke has was unbelievable. i only paid $50 a pair as he was helping me out. he doesnt sell any of his birds usually unless they are at auction. Im going to be putting all of my birds down this week, so i shall take pics of them when pairing them up.
