Temp In And Around My Aviary
What is your aviary like? I have an inclosed setup and have it insulated, have an air con unit which i run for any days that shall be hotter than 30 to try and keep the area at 24 degrees. On the really hot day we had in sydney which was 43 it got up to 31 degress in there, but when i put the watering system that i have on the roof to, it went back down to about 27. Go to bunnings and get one of those green sprinklers that spirt out water along it. You shall notice a massive difference in the temp. you need to keep it running all day to keep the avery as cool as possible.

My New Birds
I dont totally agree with this. I have bought 100+ birds in the last 3 months from all different breeders. All open class breeders except 1 or 2. I didnt quarantine any of these birds and have not lost one bird. All of the birds are all down on eggs, breeding and are all very active and healthy. if you buy from breeders who look after there birds you shouldnt have too much problem. My birds are kept in a very clean environment to ensure they are kept healthy as possible.

Old Cock Birds
in these instances if you have pairs that you just use as foster parents it is a great idea to use them in these cases so the birds dont get worn out!

Old Cock Birds
i can take pics but they dont do the bird justice in a breeding cabinet as i use the wire cabinets, and it is also such a long process to process pics on this website. I shall however over time, get a website or a page which shall have links to my birds, as im wanting to have all of my birds on record to have a picture attached to them. this cock is certainly a modern cock, as another open breeder was there at the sametime i was and he commented on the bird i had in my show cage. ( not saying im an open breeder, that the person selling the birds was an open breeder). Best photos are done by pulling them from their cage for a few mins and putting them in show cage for a photo. Especially good for your records too. Too much effort at present as i have 40 cabinets set up.

Old Cock Birds
i think the the uk they are alright to breed when they are real old due to the temperatures. im going to keep on breeding these cock birds until they dont fill eggs anymore. they are too good to not get as many young as possibly especially as they are Gazzard birds.

Old Cock Birds
Has anyone been to a breeders place before and spotted out some great birds only yo find out that they are really old? Well i took the plunge and bought 2 real quality cocks that were both red ringers ( not this years birds ), and they have filled eggs for me. Cant wait to see the result of the babies. You cant complain when the breeders let these birds go really cheap to as they shall they cant guarantee that they shall fill the eggs due to there age. These 2 cock birds are both Gazzard birds.

Breeder Record Cards
How do you use the 18 day eggs chart. go to the date when they first lay the egg and count 18 days?

Round Two Eggs Clear
Couple of ideas for you , The Hen has held fertile sprem from the previous matings for the first egg to be fertile, The young chicks that are out are interupting the mating parents , The cock bird is worn out from feeding and not in condition to produce fertile sperm, Pluck the cock birds feathers from the vent area so you have a more successful chance of mating, you can also do the hen. Move the young out if they are feeding by themselves to a nappy cage so the parents can get back down to business. Agree with what has be said above, you would also remove all eggs that arent fertile. she shall either lay more eggs or just sit on the ones that you leave are fertile. as you know she is a good mother you could then foster eggs to her if you wanted. All depends on how good a pair they are.

Dave will be here in Perth in a weeks time to visit with me. He is hoping to bring birds back home with him. I have some for Dave and will also organise possible birds from other breeders so Dave can take some birds home with him. Kaz would you be able to organise some for me. How much do you ask for your birds? Have you taken any pics of the birds you have for sale?

Tiered Perches
if you dont want the plucking to happen them look at your largest big and the length of it, and make the perches an extra 5cm further apart from the measurement of the bird. i personally think, they they are going to fight they shall fight, doesnt matter if the below perch is to close if they want to fight they shall peck the bird next to them on the perch.

Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
The secret is sometimes you have to take 50 pictures to get just one good one :hap: it is a pain, i took some pics today of a few birds and they dont do justice to the birds as i took them on my phone camera, and it doesnt take a good crisp image to see the birds easier.

Do you add anything like oats or sunflower seeds to your mix or just the straight Golden Cob mix?
