Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'll be posting lots of pics once we get the little fella. Just out of curiosity how rare are budgies in the US and Canada? I sometimes hear in the news of people trying to smuggle aussie birds and eggs out so I assume they must be quite hard to get over there to risk those sort of fines or imprisonment (not to mention what the poor birds are put though!!).

With my advanced knowledge of budgie genetics I think I can say with all certainty that... One of them will have to come and live up here!!

Wow, I don't like the sounds of that this early in the season!! Glad to hear its under control now. We also live in a bushfire zone, but more annoyingly our neighbours always choose to burn off their block when the wind is heading towards our house. As Liv said don't turn on any extractor fans, close all doors and windows and roll up towels and put them across the gaps under outside doors. This should keep the majority of the smoke out. Once the front actually goes past your house, go outside as soon as its safe and make sure nothing is smouldering as burning embers can travel a long distance.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and have had several budgies previously and now my son would like to get one. I have always got them from pet shops and they have varied from stepping up onto my finger from day one to trying to remove my finger from day one :fear Obviously I'd like my son's first budgie to be as "friendly" as possible so after reading here it looks like the best bet is to get one from a breeder that was handled from an early age. Can anyone tell me if any Adelaide breeders have any available in the near future? We don't intend to breed or show it so a "show" reject would be fine as long as it would make a good pet. By The Way my son is 10 years old so he will always be supervised when near the budgie (read: I'm getting the budgie but letting him think its his ) Cheers Phil Edit... again Thanks for moving my post to its own thread Kaz. I have now found the wanted section so I have posted in there too. By way of further introduction, as I said I have had several budgies, love birds, finches and a crazy but much loved galah over the years and now that my son is keen to get one he has rekindled my interest as well. As with most things I have found in the past that any venture seems to go better if you listen to the experts first, hence I posted here rather than just going to our local pet shop. The info on this site looks great so I have an afternoon of reading ahead of me and hopefully soon I'll have some pics for you. Expect lots of questions Cheers again Phil
