I just had the loveliest idea for your extra special Aviary that your hubby built! You could have window boxes with budgie seed growing in them!

It really couldn't have been easier to do, I want to make lots of them now! Use recycled things like yoghurt and ice cream containers. A good pressie for a budgie loving friend too (in a nice pot) then they can keep doing it themselves.

Heatwave Coming...
I live inland...near Casterton and it always gets waaaay hotter than they predict, mostly 4-5 degrees above! I have just been out to the aviary and caught ALL my budgies and brought them into same sex cages inside. The aviary used to have a tree over it but it fell down so they don't get as much shelter as they used to from the sun. I have an evaporative cooler I bought from Safeways, just a cheapie but it does take the edge off and put it in the old laundry which is now a birdroom! I also have some oscillating fans in there. I hope you and your birds are o.k. Cheers, Trish.

Heatwave Coming...
Hi there, I just checked the forecast and for my area (Western District, Victoria) it will be 39+ degrees for the next 3 days, the forecast for Friday is not in yet. The lucky kids get this nice weather on their first week back at school! I just thought also for those of us that work and haven't checked the forecast that my warning might give you the chance to prepare for the hotter weather this week with your budgies. Cheers, Trish.

ThanksSailorwolf, I have moved both the offending logs. I wish I had seen the danger before it happened. Surely it would have happened before but I doubt that the previous owners would have cared or noticed!

Misty Says Hi
it will be put down if surrended to the RSPCA. Both VIC and NSW put down budgies that are unfit to re release into the wild as they are a native! but yes the bird does need to get to a vet, even if you do take it to the RSPCA then at least it will be put out of it's misery. My vet onced waived their fees for consultation and medication when I brought in a stray dog. A few days later I found the owner!

Misty Says Hi
Just a thought.....The "actual" owner may be prepared to pay Avian Vet fees??

Misty Says Hi
I think you should advertise that you have found him. Imagine if it belonged to a little ol' lady and it is her only companion or a childs favorite pet that escaped while they were changing his food? If nothing comes of it then your concience is clear. Do you think his eye was a recent accident or an old one? Probably best to take him to the vet if it looks new to make sure it does not become infected. Welcome to the forum and well done for taking the little guy in!

Thanks mysixbabies, I am please to report that the babies are being fed and fine at the bottom of the cage, it looks like one was ready to fledge anyway. A baby from the other cage has fledged also today as has one of my T.C.B. and Albino chicks! I'll take some pics later today! Cheers, Trish.

Thanks Krosp for your kind words. I have now moved them to a container on the floor of the cage as Kaz mentioned this might work and the parents will still know where to find them. I don't want it happening again and hopefully this will prevent any further accidents. If it works successfully with this lot by tomorrow, I will do it with the others because they too have a silly log with catchy bits on it. Thanks again, Trish.

Sadly one of my chicks died by accident today while I was out. It got its foot trapped in a notch in the hollow log that is being used as a breeding box and I found it hanging and it had already passed :rip: it was a bit horrific to see but I will spare you the details. I am so upset, I was priding myself in how lucky I was that they all survived the big move they had and then this

Hello
No worries at all I'm glad to help. The other budgie won't catch it (it only looks like the grey one has it) and humans can't catch it. He also won't die from it, he just won't be able to fly all the same if you set his cage right he will have a happy and long life. I say these things because I wondered all of them. My Ben is a lovely happy little budgie.

Hello
Yes, just read my topic and all the good advice I got and it should tell you all you need to know.

Hello
There is no need for a "normal" budgie to have seed on the floor. I believe that the breeder sold you a french molt budgie and knew that he was too, I have one myself and that is how I came accross this forum. I didn't know about it till I found out here. This is my discussions on here about my F.M. budgie Ben: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=22713 Don't worry my Ben is happy and healthy and I have just modified his cage to suit his special needs. P.S. He wont be able to get to his seed through the grate on the floor, maybe line the bottom of the cage with newspaper and put the seed in a shallow dish. Plenty of ladders, toys and perches down low is what is needed for this little guy.
