if i were you pearce i would sell the bird who is having these chicks as a pet or keep it but not breed again (and tell them she or he is no good to breed with )and same with the sister that's gotten better if you are not sure which side this is coming from then test breed with a bird you know to have healthy chicks and then if the same thing occurs you will know who is the carrier their are many reasons this can happen but french molt does look like your prob their is a lot of ideas and reasons floating around but personally i believe it all comes down to inter breed birds (i am not referring to birds being back breed or line breed although if you don't know the proper procedures it can be a problem then)french molt can jump generations so don't be hasty in believing which bird is the cause also the fact that you have been having big problems with mite may be a reason as mite can give a similar result as french molt if the infestation is bad i know a lot of people will not agree with what i say but mate i have never had a case of it in my whole breeding experiences through out my life but in saying this see it in a lot of peoples aviaries some people just say that the mother plucked it when it is young DO NOT BE FOOLED if a bird has fluffy feather growth then it carries the french molt gene or some may argue its a virus what ever it is it is not nice and all french molt birds should in my view be anethesized as soon as signs show and the parent birds put out as retired never to be breed again as unless you know you bird is going to be a pet only to many people ignore the warning and breed regardless as not all the chicks seem to be affected i think this is wrong how are our birds going to get better if people have this attitude virus or genetic it is a carried problem passed on to not always all the young and birds who have not been affected can still pass it on even if it passes a few generations this is where the biggest problem lies get rid of your mite and if this problem still occurs then work out who is your carrier but my advice i wouldn't breed or let anyone else breed from any of the birds from any affected clutch EVER ..... ps i really admire that you are sharing issues that most people would be to scared to admit well done its the only way to learn and experience it all sorry you have started with such a bad experience it will all be worth it in the end you have some nice birds their remember this is only my opinion only what i myself would do would do but of course vet first :yes: stupid me

really rip i belive you but i read that the yellowface on a green bird shows up as a darker yellow but as i read it was not sure if true or not alot of books give out alot of wrong infomation why i joined you guys can you explain to me please rip why some yf1 birds have yellow through their wings or are these golden face ones can anybody post pics of yf2 buby then as adult yf1 buby then adult goldenface same as above and gf1 gf2 as i have always wondered if i have a mix or just yf2 birds

thats a bit confussing but then im not to good at things with out pics yes you can have a yellow face green their face is a darker yellow usually only golden face you can tell with im not into green birds much so i cant really tell you more than that usually yf green birds are yf2 or golden face sky blues i could be wrong but one they are adult they just look green for some reason the wrong picture keeps coming up thats better sorry although the first bird will turn dark green

day one was good enough bed would of been nice yes krosp i have spent last 3 years veiwing my life and staying out of cerculation of life so i can see where i have been going wrong and right it this year is my year and i know now what i must do to achive for not only myself but my children the stress free happy life we deserve my foccus is on our new home then settling us all in then making sure they are all happy then when their all good then i can start to have afew people around to injoy company of but first half year is for family friends latter i have two good ones thats heaps to get use to lol

i find most birds like cosmo carry the spangle and or rec pie gene usually from a harliquin whick is just another name for a yellow blue pied and they usually carry opaline from my experiance ( unless its from a good quality line of rececive pie inheratanceharliquin pies usually carry opaline not all rececive pies

i did not know cabbage was toxic i have always used it in place of lettus ... woopsi am so sorry to here of all the trouble you are having i only just read your whole post i use a spray mix of coriander and lemmon grass to keep spider mite at bay... it does work although it is more a proventadive then a cure... so when you do clear your mite probblem up try bringing these two herbs (fresh) in a pot to simmer then leave to seep for up to 4 hours then drain the water and use in a spray bottle on everything also if you ever get stuck with spider mite (redmite) again at dusk throw a freash clean white sheet over your aviry or breeding boxes the mite are atracted to the white sheet then in the early morning go and wrap the sheet up you will see the mite on it burn the sheet

check if they are male or female it will give you a indication of how many your looking at also mouse bates dont work as mice send out one mouse to cheek things out this mouse has the job of brining home the food once he has found it but no mouse will eat that item until 1 week latter if the mouse who brought it in dies in this time none of them eat it good luck

i was only joking on the petrol i dont like to harm anything not even mice we had mice once in my aviry where i usto live before i started to breed again mice were every where i had box traps all over the place we would catch them and then catch a train to the next town and let them go the kids loved it .. one day a really heaverly pregnant mummy had babys in the trap we didnt have the heart to let all the naked little things go in the next town so we got a fish tank the plan was to let them get hair then take the whole family of 8 to the next town but when i grabed mum by tail she turned around an bit me i droped her and she ran under the fridge we did everything to cocs her to her babys but nothing in 5 hours so we decided to feed them with a seringe all was going good my son had the job the all ate well but were getting cold so i warmed up a rice bag in the microwave and placed it under a tea towle and put them on top we put the lid back on when my son went to feed them he came back really upset with 8 little mice all steemed on the teatowle :rofl: ....woops what can i say i tryed
