  1. I wouldn't worry as he doesn't seem sick and he still is growing and developing. Or should I say she lol Very cute :bliss:
  2. They're gorgeous! You have such a beautiful variety of birds. So many pretty pieds. I love the line up photo- they look very soft and pastel.
  3. I still maintain that Ricky is a very easy name for budgies to say :bliss:
  4. I didn't really do much, I just said the same thing over and over. Pretty boy seems to be easy to say for budgies and humans, and when I used to have budgies as a kid it seemed to be what they learned quickest, so I just used that with Cosmo. Anything that isn't too difficult for you to repeat over and over is probably best, then you just get in a habit of saying it to them whenever you talk to them.
  5. I was away when this thread happened, and I didn't notice it until it got bumped up again today. I'm so glad you decided to stay! I have noticed you around the last few days and have been able to understand what you were saying, and you had some very interesting and insightful comments. I can understand how it must be so tiring to do something like learn how to use a forum and communicate in writing, if it takes your brain so much extra effort and energy to do these tasks. It's okay to take a rest when you need to. But it's probably good for you to stay too :bliss: practicing anything we find hard is very frustrating, but always helps us improve. Will be great to keep seeing you around, and I hope you can continue to really enjoy the forum and not feel too down about it :bliss:
  6. I keep coming back to look at the pictures again and again I especially love the veranda bit and the wooden bench..... I love the door too.. and how there's kind of "windows" for the birds to see out... ah i just love all of it
  7. Cosmo absolutely LOVES the vacuum cleaner!!! Most noises he will start chortling along to, but the vacuum cleaner is clearly one of his favourites. He also likes running water and rustling plastic bags, but I think the vacuum beats both of those.
  8. Such a shame that you even had the sense to think to ask about quarantine, but the "expert" advice you received was so wrong. I'm glad the budgies are healthy now. I'm confused by your photos.... the first picture of Meeple looks like a pale grey bird, but then when you showed photos of two birds, you have a green one and a blue one? Do you have three, or did Meeple's colour not show up right in the first one?
  9. Aww that's a shame... I think it is a pretty quiet recording because I have to turn my volume up to hear it. But he talks a lot once he comes right up to the camera and makes clicking sounds, and at one point he goes "pretty pretty booooooooyyyy" really loudly. He has a nice beak hey? since that's pretty much all you can see of him for half the clip.
  10. Haha... you can see the unevenness of his yellow cap too
  11. It's gorgeous! I would love having something like that to go out to every day
  12. I imagine it would be good to take things like swings down, things that could move around a lot.
  13. Are you travelling alone or will there be someone with you? Is the car air conditioned? It is probably good to have someone who can hold the cage/container steady in the car if possible. Others on here have a lot more knowledge about transporting budgies than I do though. I'm sure it can be done.
  14. I took this about a week ago on my phone, but I only just realised I can upload it onto photobucket. It's a good video for anyone who wants to have a good look down a budgie's throat  Sorry if I wasn't supposed to embed it into here. He was only saying "pretty boy" and maybe birdy and budgie at that time, but lately I've heard him say Cosmo and whatcha doin?
  15. I tried to get a photo of what Cosmo looks like at the moment. Unfortunately he was in such a preening mood that it was almost impossible to get a clear shot of him, but this one is the most accurate in terms of colour, even though it's a bit blurry.
  16. That's great! I find it really annoying too when american websites say that parakeet is the real name and budgie is just a "nickname" that Australians use. It's also wrong how that other person commented that budgerigar is the "scientific name" because I thought usually scientific name refers to the genus and species. I suppose it's a bit impossible trying to argue with a population the size of America but at least you answered correctly when someone asked, and lots of people might read it and know better. In some circumstances I might be inclined to say parakeet if I didn't have the time or energy level to bother explaining what a budgie is. I have had this conversation before with someone from overseas: them> do you have any pets? me> yes we have a budgie them> a what?? me> a parakeet them> oh me> but actually, budgie is the correct name for parakeet, because....[at this point their eyes glaze over and they are visibly no longer interested in the conversation]

He reminds me of two birds I used to have- Ricky and Bobby. Easy to say, but not that unusual. How about Alfonso? (Fonsy for short) Dmitri?
  18. Thanks Kaz! She is beautiful. JB - haha he looks really funny at the moment. He has one really big throat spot and the rest are all still small. Very patchy and spiky all over. Very adolescent-like.
  19. He does look older than 4 months to me too... he has a bright colour, a white cap and fully formed throat spots. My budgie is only just going through his moult and starting to get those features, and the youngest he could possibly be is 5 months, probably 6. Although I know they don't all moult at the same age. Cosmo is a lot more active now than he was when he was younger too.
  20. I knew Cosmo would turn greener with his first moult and sure enough there seem to be some green feathers coming through just below his face! I know what the sky YF2 look like when they become that seafoam colour, but I'm having a bit more trouble picturing what cobalt YF2 look like? Does it just look like a green budgie with bits of blue around the edges? If anyone has any photos of cobalt YF2 budgies with their adult feathers I would be very interested to see
  21. Haha classic Smokey that you got yet another gorgeous picture of him with his beak open! He's already won so many awards for the first one I love the oiling his tail photos... they look so amazing when they do that.
  22. Confusing... light green and dark green look fairly similar to me. I don't know which one all my green birds were... it just seems like the spangles were lighter than the normals! And if there is light green, dark green and olive.... then what is greygreen?
  23. My mum has a bright green budgie who croaks like a frog all the time! It's really funny because his yellow throat spot area puffs up when he's croaking too, just like a frog... and he loves swimming in his water dish. So we called him Freddo But what you're describing doesn't sound like it's just part of his regular chortling repertoire, but more when he's interacting with others? In that case it would either be the deep "aark aaark" sort of kissy noise they make.. or it could be a threatening noise (usually their beak is open as though they're showing you they know how to bite!)
  24. Oooh that's so exciting! One of each so far!
