Thankyou liv and kaz Ive never had neon in a avairy situation before but when I released her todya, I noticed she cannot fly very well. She cannot fly up, when she flys she always sinks down, she cannot get up to a perch in the avairy. You know a budgies flights, how they go straight down, neons dont, they cross over, and I'm just wondering if this could be why she cannot fly??

okay Thankyou kaz I have another question about fostering. Could 2 5 day old chicks be fostered to a nest with 3 16 day old chicks?

Yes your right KAZ. The eggs are heavy so I'm not sure if they are definitly infertile. Will the hen smash the eggs because they are not hers? I dont want to break the eggs and find babies inside...

Hi I have 2 babies in one nest (2 weeks) and 3 babies and 2 eggs in another nest (2 weeks) Can I move the 3 babies and 2 eggs from the nest and put them in the nest with 2 babies? Will the hen know the eggs and babies arent hers? Will she feed them?

whats wrong with youngsters breeding my only mummy is under a year old and she has had no problems and my mates birds all started under a year and still the same no problems. Hi Young budgies can neglect their chicks, attack the chicks, smash eggs, feather pluck. If the budgies are over a year old their is less chance of these things happening. When I colony bred my birds I had young birds breeding, and I lost alot of birds but I thought they all died of natural causes. But if I had of been a member of this forum at the time I would of stopped colony breeding instantly.

Thankyou very much for all your help KAZ. The red mite are very hard to spot, I wish I had noticed them earlier and I could of got rid of them without losing 4 budgies. If I cannot find coopex or some other treatment tomorow I think I'm going to move all budgies out of wooden cages. Then put them into steel cages and put the babis on the floor in an icecream container. I dont see anything I have to lose by doing this. I will never be using wooden breeding cages again either. I will also make sure I have ail in my cupboard constantly.

okay Thankyou KAZ You know the iverctmin spot on, how long does it take to come into effect and is it meant for red mite? I thought it was just a cure for scaly face but I've read articles that say it gets rid of all mite. I put it on parents and babies yesterday 1 drop to the back of the neck, but their are still red mite. The red mite are very small, quite hard to see. They seem to come in and out of the budgies ears and feathers. I've been looking up scatta-7 online and its a tick remover for cats and dogs... but the breeder I got it from used it to treat red mite, I hope it isnt deadly to birds.

okay I will ring up the hardware stores and see if they sell coopex. Currently the steel cages have no signs of red mite, but they will spread to them if the red mite arent killed. I have ordered ail but it sadly will not be here for 7 days so hopefully I can find somewhere that will sell me coopex. Are red mite deadly to budgies over 3 weeks of age?
