  3. Well actually no, NOT the cock bird. okay Good point.
  4. I've followed Kaz's advice re photos ....
  5. Day 4 different camera settings .....
  6. I do not believe that the hen is split dilute, I had already contacted the breeder prior to putting this pair down and was assured that she wasn't.
  7. There is absolutely no chance that this chick is Greywing, it was bred out of 2 visual Clearwings.
  8. Yeah, sorry about the photos. This chick has just fledged so getting a good photo is very challenging. I just thought the markings were a bit brown and wondered if they could be cinnamon as I am not very experienced when it comes to clearwing breeding. I was wondering whether the dad might be split cinnamon ....
  9. Day 3 Still working on the settings ....
  10. Can any one tell me if these are cinnamon markings?
  11. Yeah, why not We'll be there at 11am with alcohol and munchies! Might as well help with the last little bits

  14. And the moral to the story is - SAFETY DOOR to your breeding area That way if they escape the holding cage/breeding cabinet they don't keep on flying onwards and upwards into the big blue sky (full of hungry hawks, crows and magpies)
  15. Looking good Kaz! I can't wait till you wire it all up and are ready to do the perches!
  16. Why do you do that Splat?
  17. I am not going to argue with you but I disagree. Whether the leg issue is genetic or not I believe administering calcium to the chicks would mitigate the problem. However, I want to see whether the pairing of this particular Lute cock bird to another non-Lute hen still produces chicks with leg deformities. THAT is the purpose of this thread. :ohmygod:
  18. Yes, but doing that with these 2 chicks would defeat the purpose of this thread.
  19. It's been a while since I began this journal. I had a couple of nests of clear eggs with this pair but finally she lay 4 eggs and TWO were fertile. Today the first chicks hatched: I will be taking a photo every day and tracking their progress.
  20. I ha a hen who did that this year, very annoying as she is very nice too. After the second scrambled egg I started removing the eggs after she had laid them and transferred them to the nest of another hen who was laying at that time. I did this with 5 eggs. I also popped in a couple of clear eggs after 5 days and surprisingly she didn't break them. When the chicks began to hatch I popped them back in with her after 24hrs and she is currently raising 3 chicks without any dramas so far. Worth a try!
  21. Keep her warm and take her to the vet.
  22. Yeah :happy-dancing: Poor little blighters..................could have been worse I guess...they could be dead. Happy to report they are fed in their new foster nests and the angry red skin is settling a little. Is there anything you can put on the raw skin to help soothe and help recover? :ohmygod:
