Just had a thought - Have you reported this to the Police? I think they should be notified. Weird. Are you sure you are on 'friendly terms' with your neighbors? :laughter:

    Don't be so Judgmental Renee!

Why is no one but me posting on this topic? :laughter: Don't you care that Kaz has had this misfortune? Why aren't you being more supportive?
  4. Well I can't wait to see photos! Kaz is right, no such thing as a fluorescent pied - BUT he must be a pretty budgie to be given such a description! :laughter:

Well I wouldn't go catching any birds in this heat either, but have you had a head count for the 'favorites'? Maybe you could take a video of them all with your new camera and then do a rough check that way?

It is, but anyone determined will find a way to get what they want. Did you take a photo of the hole when you discovered it? Is it easy to fix?

So what you are saying is they did not want to steal your young birds but instead allow them to escape? And from the sounds of things it could be anyone 'cause all they had to do was check out your set up and birds online here for example? Jeeze Kaz, that is pretty low. Did you take a photo when you discovered this? Escape or steal.............the thing is they could have been interrupted..............there is access of varying kinds for anyone determined enough when you think about it. I've always thought of your place as Fort Knox .... but you'd know better than anyone else.

Oh My God! That is terrible. I would have thought that a break in was virtually impossible given the location and controlled access - plus doggies, plus sturdiness of the aviary construction .... Evidently not. Remingtons Insurance Broker Bird Insurance 03 5332 1933 And/Or Security cameras ....
  10. Hey GB, How are your birds doing today? Any news back from the Vet?
  11. Wonderful news that everything is going smoothly and bubs are hatching out and being fed!
  12. You are quite right Heath and thank you for posting this link. I am still stuck on getting the shape of the bird and markings right (for the rare varieties). In my long-term plan schedule Feather considerations will become a priority in 2011+. At what point did you start taking Feather as a main consideration in pairing, as a Novice or later in your journey?

Yes I do! I get terrible hay fever when Maize is in flower. Fortunately there's not much of that happening here in suburban Perth!
  14. i havent been beatting around any bushes i took ten random birds in when i first went thats 10 out of 45 birds plus the dead hen But that was a couple of weeks ago It now appears that they certainly did not possibly have psittacosis and the recent treatment of doxy will have knocked them about. I am wondering whether your Vet is the kind that only responds to birds he has actually seen at his clinic .... ?

 Ratzy! I am sorry to hear about all your allergies. Birds tend to shed quite a bit of feather dust but you should be okay if you keep then in an open style aviary. Would love to see photos of all your animal friends!
  16. No, I would say that Sparky is exercising his authority and showing Pebbles who is boss! Bullying does exist in the budgie world and even in a big aviary a 'pecking order' is established. birluv does have a point though, are you sure their cage is big enough for the two of them. The squabbling could be caused because they don't have enough personal space.
  17. Oh Robyn I am so sorry for your loss! Yes it does look like he had some kind of accident and as a result did starve. Was he really thin? I am not sure if you can do anything about those kind of injuries. Don't feel too badly about yourself for not noticing sooner, you did the best that you could for him. the little one.
  18. GB you will do what you think best and Best of Luck that these guys pull through whatever they have and recover well. Part and parcel of bringing in new birds from different studs is that some are immune to certain bugs and others aren't. It took me most of 2008 to get all my flock to the stage where I was confident about their health. Like you I didn't loose a lot of birds due to a major infection, it was just one here or there and having a niggling feeling that not all was right with them. I fixed this through preventative medicine treatments. So in spite of strict quarantine procedures because I have once again this year brought in different birds everyone will get the summer regime of preventative medication treatment as a precaution. That is all it is at the end of the day but I prefer to be safe than sorry so I do it. In the not too distant future most of my flock will consist of my bred birds and I will be far more confident about their well-being health-wise because I will be their sole care giver and then, and only then, will I re-think how I do things. I am sharing this with you, not because I think I can change your mind but because perhaps in the future you will come back to this post and have a re-think.
  19. Could be  Some are definitely stocky, aren't they?
  20. Yes, I like Memphis too!
  21. Interesting! Is it my imagination or do they seem to be breeding to a slightly different Standard to our ANBC Standard of bird? To me it looks like their birds are a tad shorter.
  22. I have heard some illustrious breeders refer to themselves modestly as "the breeder of pigeons" ... are you joining their ranks Matt? :raincloud:
  23. No I am not the vindictive type, besides I believe Karma took care of him :hmm: it was a joke ren  ...hello.. :raincloud: Tongue in cheek sense of humour darl.
