  1. I rang the pet shop and said that my YOUNG MALE was not a young male but and older female but she had poopy problems and was flipping out on the bottom of the cage. So they said to bring her straight down. I spoke to the girl who buys all their birdsand she said she probably had worms and put her in isolation to treat the problem. She offered us a replacement (that sounds bad) and the kids fell in love with this YOUNG MALE in the shop. He jumped straight out and within 10mins of the kids playing with him he was sitting on their shoulders singing and preening himself. So here HE is. What type is this bird and I guess he is only a few weeks old http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll73/CY...101/newbud2.jpg http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll73/CY...O101/newbud.jpg
  2. I like the idea of hanging a net over the door for when u walk in. I would also make a little hinged door on the side to access a feeding tray.
  3. I am looking at the absco A23151G Aviary. It is 2.26m(W) 1.52m(D) 2m(H) http://www.allaboutsheds.com.au/animalhous...irdavaries.html How many budgies could live in this size. I dont want to breed, I just want 15 or so. It looks pretty open to me I might need to close in one side for protection from the south. In colorbond this one is $689. Steve
  4. Good advice guys. It will be a slow process. I won't be breeding so there will be no breeding box's or separate areas in the aviary. Just loads of pearches and toys. I will go to Bunnings over the weekend and check out those half depth garden sheds for small blocks. Mayber that is a checkerr option, that way all I need to do is put bird mesh on the front. Will also check this guy out. http://aussiecagesandaviaries.com/Modular%20aviaries.htm Steve
  5. I sort of got the okay from the accountant (my wife) today to start thinking about a small aviary. I would not start in until spring so any idea's. I only want 10, 15 or 20 budgies. I want to do a concrete slab with a drain in the middle. Sizes wise I was thinkng about 2.4m Long x 1.2 deep x 1.8 high or similar, just std sizes. I was thinking of something like a garden shed but only half as deep with mesh on the front but those custom build garden sheds are expensive. Other than that I would need to buy a welder and weld up some angle and sheet all the sides bar the front. The only other idea I can come up with is to use colourbond fencing panels and the rails and they just tech screw together. I am a bit reluctant to buy one second hand as the Mrs won't wont some broken down old rusty shack it the back yard. Any help would be great. Steve
  6. Yes. I did get her from a pet shop. Do u (you) think I should take her back before the kids get too attached? and get a young male? My wife said we a luck to have shuch a tame bird. I just hope she is not sick or something. Steve
  7. Hows that. Even if she is a girl and about 8 months is there any chance the kids could still teach her to talk? Is it normal for a bird so old Ha Ha, to be so tame straight from the pet shop? As she is very docile, just sits where ever u you put her, and if she's in her cage she does not move much when we enter the room. But saying that I came home at lunch time today and she was running around the bottom of the cage like a nut and chirpping out loud, having fun I would say. Steve ~ changed u to you ~
  8. here we go http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll73/CY...008/buddie2.jpg Go back into Photobucket and use their resizing tool to get it down to 450 X 450 (or less). No worries, it took me a few tries and your picture is nice and clear!!! In the meantime members can click on the link to Photobucket. And your picture is good now! Please repost as I cannot find my glasses to restore it, thanks!!
  9. Well here he (or she) is in all his glory. A very very docile/tame baby. Was told je was only about 5 or 6 weeks old. When he's out of the cage he just sits in the one spot and does not move, maybe because the kids follow him everywhere. So how do I add photos? If I click on the icon above it askes for a web address. Steve
  10. I know this is only my 2nd post and I have only had my bird for 2 days, but I WANT AN AVIARY!. So let the input begin guy's. I have heaps of room. I live in Newcastle so it get hot in summer. I was thinking about pouring a concrete slab with a grated drain to the stormwater system about 1m deep x 3m long and 1.8m high. I might buy one new or make it myself with all sides enclosed bar the front. Any advice would be great. How do u keep em cool in summer? Is there any breeders in Newcastle where I can go and have a look? I don't want to breed so no box's or little hide aways? I was thinking of having a feeding platform about 600mm square that I can access through a small side door at chest hight. Would this beok or should it all be hanging? Also with the conc floor and drain I wont need to get in the aviary very often...I guess. Steve
  11. Hi there. I got my (or my kids) first budgie yesterday (photos to come). I love Budgies and I have not had them since I was a little fella, about 30 years ago. I always wanted an avery and now I have not got mum saying NO, I guess I only have the wife to convince. Now the Budgie we got yesterday is very young and very very tame, and the kids 5 and 8 love him. But if I get an avery I guess there's no chance of having tame birds anymore....or is there.....I was thinking that I should keep Buddie boy in the little cage as a tame bird and just leave the avery wild? what do u you think? And if I get a small avery do I need to breed them (dumb question) or do I have to get a the one sex? Steve
