  1. Points taken. From what I know the birds are all at least 12 months old and the log is a bit off the ground wired onto the back of the aviary. Should he take the hen and the hatched chicks out once they hatch? and put them in a separate cage?
  2. I dont understand that way of thinking. I would of thought it was quite a natural thing for birds to mate and lay egg's, and raise their young, so why should'nt he just let nature take it coarse? Why wont the hen do whats needed to look after the new babies?
  3. I think he will just wait and see what happends. He does not have many birds and can take the other hens out for a while if the eggs hatch. Then he will just keep an eye on them and hope the hen looks after them. Also what happends to the eggs if there is no where to lay them? does the hen still produce eggs? Steve

Any updates on this story? Also what happends with the eggs if there is no where to lay em? ie no breeding box's? Steve
  5. A friend of mine has an aviary with no breeding box's, as he does not want to get into breeding. But recently he put a hollowed out log in the aviary and one of the hens has made a nest and layed some eggs. So he wants to know what he should do. My initail thought was nothing, as this is a natural thing and I am sure the hen will do what needs to be done......BUT.... I said I would ask you guys the question. So should he just leave the eggs alone and will the hen do the feeding and stuff? What to do? Steve

I am well on the way to getting my first aviary and was wondering how to set up the inside. The couple I have spotted on this site seem very sparce to me. I was planning on a rack of 5 or 6 dowels an a 45 degree angle in one corner with loads of branches all over the place. Some photos of what your aviary looks like inside would be much appreciated. I also think I will get those automatic seed and water feeders to hang from the roof and maybe some bottles of water around the place too. I guess you dont want to crowd to aviary too much or you wont be a ble to get in there and do what needs to be done. Steve
  10. Thanks for that. I think he will be fine.
  11. http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww3e.htm I did find this, maybe I read it somewhere else. They are a great idea to keep fresh clean water in for you bird. Steve
  12. There was a great thread on here about why everyone should be using these things.
  13. I can't find the thread now but it was a great one on changing over to those water bottle feeder with the little steel ball bearing in the end. The problem I am having is the little dope does not know how to use it. I put his old one in today as it was warm and windy and he went straight to it for a drink. So how do I get him drinking from this this or where is that tread? Steve

I have made videos of my bird and when he hears his own whistle he goes off his chops. It must be good what ever he says. Steve

  16. The young grey/green at the top of the page in the forum title. Its hard to tell but could he/she be a spangle? I am still learning. Either way he is a cutie pie Looks a bit like my little fella. Steve
  17. This is Buddie Boy he is a Grey/Green Cinnamon Spangle about 8 weeks old I guess?
  18. Yes this is the real Buddie Bird. He is very happy and appears to like it out of his cage more than in as he is always singing and preening himself when he's out, and loves singing in the rain I just need to keep working on SWMBO about getting an aviary in spring Steve

    Very cute
  20. Just wondering what makes this bird so obviously a grey green cinnamon spangle? Is it the light feathers with the dark tips? Also he still looks like he has his baby feathers? How will he chage as he gets older? will his colours stay the same? Steve
  21. For a pet shop they must buy their birds from a good breeder as they just get any of the budgies out and they all sit on your finger straight out of the cage, without their wings being clipped.

  23. I have seen a large poster of all the different types of Budgies, does anyone know where I can get one? Or is there a site that has all the different types and how to tell them apart? Steve
  24. So if he is a spangle whats their story? Where can I find more info on diff. types? Steve
