  1. Weird, I was just looking at images of injured reptiles and most seemed to be black. Maybe it also depends whether they are dragons or skinks...
  2. Are you goint to put them on you pet types this year as well since we probably won't have many show types just to use up the rings?
  3. Those tail feathers are only her secondary tail feathers, she hasn't get her primaries like SW said. They hold their tail out like that to help them balance, especially when they are young and still learning.
  4. Not sure about reptiles but I have a feeling they go black, I seem to have recollections of seeing a snake that had injuries and had black marks on it's skin as a result. Maybe I'll ask some reptile people.
  5. I would only pass a bird like that onto someone who didn't want it for breeding and advise them of it's issues prior to them taking it, I would never condone passin on a bid like that to someone who even had the slightest chance of wanting to breed it.
  6. If he is nearly due for a moult anyway I would suggest clipping his other wing so that he isn't lops sided, that way he should get both his wings back at the same time.
  7. We need to get some rings in the pipeline so that we can start putting them on babies, did she say how long the rings take?
  8. Thanks SW, that's very helpful. INteresting that in mammals it's white and in fish and amphibiams it's black
  9. I am a member of a club but I didn't get a copy of it when I was at the last meeting so I wanted one for my personal use while deciding which birds to breed.
  10. I'm not getting excited about that single feather I am asking about the genetics of black sport feathers, it's just the best example I have at the moment. We have been in contact with a breeder who has had birds turn up commonly with quite a few of these sorts of feathers and has offerred them to us so I'm tring to grow my own understanding of where they come from.
  11. Our new puppy arrives on Sunday. She will be eight weekxs old. I have attached a photo of some of the pups taken a couple of weeks ago, ours will be like the one on the far rright and the one second from the left. For those who aren't aware they are Basset Hounds
  12. I would get rid of that hen too or if you like her and want to use her for breeding have atleast one other pair breeding at the same time so you can move the eggs under another hen before they even hatch.
  13. Also Deb the hen didn't necessarily throw the baby out, I have had three week olds jump out of boxes. The feathers will grow back so if she is still feeding them I would probably just put up with it for a week or so as long as she doesn't pull out too many more feathers and then you should be able to start encouraging them to eat on their own anyway.
  14. The bunny is actually in love with the dog, he thinks she's a giant rabbit It has gotten to the point that the bunny rarely goes in his hutch, he does have one but he wants to spend most of his time out playing with the dog. They come inside together at night and Sascha won't let anything nasty come into the backyard so he's pretty safe. The only worry I have is flying predators but given he's bigger than the cat it would have to be a pretty big bird before it would bother with him and I've never seen any of the larger bird of prey around here.
  15. Eventually Neat, just want to be able to check if I breed a chick with more than one mutation what section they will be shown in so I can decide whether to keep it.
  16. I agree about the lacewing Neat, I think more photos will definately be needed to tell for sure. When I originally said that the bird was sky both photos were bringing up the head shot for some reason so I didn't have the full body photo
  17. That's me, that's why I'm asking this question This is her:
  18. Hey Neat... SNAP!
  19. I studied genetics at uni Neat, that is the only reason I can actually understand all this stuff. Simple genetics like this is about the best I can do though, my mind boggles at the stuff sailorwolf can do breaking it down to tiny percentages, that's WAY beyond me...
  20. She's only your stock standard farm bred kelpie from good working parents but we often get comments on her. She does have a bit of natural talent even, we have had her in a ring with sheep and she will bring them to me and then just sit down and hold them without pacing like alot of them do. She knows when to conserve her energy She cost me $20 and it's the best $20 I've ever spent!
  21. Our new puppy arrives on Sunday so that will add a whole new dimension to the training but we'll get there and I'm sure that she will end up being bunny boy's friend too
  22. ??? Sorry Neat I'm having a 'moment' and I don't get what you mean. He was referring to the single black feathers nothing to do with the shape of the feathers or anything.
  23. In the full body shot her eyes look black but in the close up they look red so I would say lutino. He could be cobalt as often they reflect lighter than they really are in photos.
  24. I snapped this picture of my fur babies having dinner and thought it was rather cute
