  1. Yeah, but pigeons are the rats of the air. If you can import pigeons you can import anything.

Welcome back Derek. From memory you got some of your stock from Daz last time didn't you? Hopefully you'll be able to help bring the forum back to its former glory. It really was a great forum, and still could be.
  3. I think it's crazy that we can't import native Australian birds into Australia but you can import Pigeons????
  4. I dunno why it's gone down so much. In the end it was just Kaz that was the only experienced breeder and she's admin on quite a few Facebook groups now. This place is still a wealth of information but I fear that the owners will shut it down one of these days.
  5. I wouldn't worry to much about him it'll take him a while to get used to it but I wouldn't rush out and get him a new friend straight away. Do you know what killed the other bird? If he starts looking fluffed up and sick take him to the vet as he might have what your other bird died of but other that should be all good.
  6. Sweet. I found it a bit strange that you'd need to push the sides in. Glad you worked it out.
  7. He's still got a few pin feathers coming through. It's not as big of a moult as I 1st thought but I'm still making sure he's getting some extra food and vitamins.
  8. So I contacted the breeder and he came out of a skyblue cock and a greygreen Dom Pied Hen. He's 12 months in about 10 days or so. So I guess if I pair him to a blue I've got a chance of getting some blue birds. He's settled in nicely.
  9. I know a lot of people who use the budgie flight cages as breeding cages. Don't think they are "Joy" brand but they are pretty much all very similar.
  10. Sorry mate don't know about shops in Adelaide. best to contact a local club and see if they have any breeders who can help you out. Best of luck
  11. Have a look on eBay or somewhere. They should deliver.
  12. G'Day Denv12. Welcome to the forum. I don't know that Ive ever seen a cage like the one you have where you push the sides to open the bottom. I've only ever seen the tray ones. Good luck trying to find some feathered friends.

Hi Kiri, Welcome to the forum. Start here and then move to here there are eaps of threads that will have information about breeding. Look in the topics under "Breeding Show Budgerigars" and "Breeding Tips" some seriously good threads there. I highly recommend this one.
  14. And so it is an interesting read... Added a little bit of rabbit pellets today... the birds all smashed them! Gone very quickly.
  15. Just had a look... I'm pretty sure it's black as well so he must be a grey. and looking at the cheek patches again I would say it's a similar colour to the grey greens so Im fairly confident he is a grey. He's currently having a moult which I assume is due to the stress of a new home and possibly change of food? Is that right? pretty sure I read that somewhere... Hopefully it won't be to stressful for him and he'll sort himself out soon.
  16. Nick123 I dunno, LOL. Not that good at picking out whats needed for Exhibition Budgies yet. I look at birds and go, that's nice but I have no idea about the technicalities.. He's around the same size as my other bird, he's almost 1...
  17. I'll have to check tomorrow. If it is dark dark blue what does that mean? Mauve?
  18. So, I went out and got my second Cock today, he's a Greygreen Normal. Yes, chances are, I'm going to have a few grey birds LOL. As long as my hens are something else we'll be fine.
  19. So I've seen people feeding their birds beetroot so I know its safe, but I'm just wondering, when you feed them the beetroot do you give them the leaves as well? I've not seen anything that says they are toxic so I am assuming they are safe but I'm just interested to find out how people feed it to them.
  20. Yes, it's good to finely have another, and soon to be more
  21. I'm a bit confused about him actually, His cheek patch is more a Violet colour and up near where his mask joins his body there is a tinge of blue but then he looks grey all over the body. Soo... I'm assuming he's a grey.
  22. Thanks Trefto, he does have the showiness in him. I mean, he's not going to win a show but he is a nice bird and doesn't mind playing up to the camera. Hoping there is something hidden in his DNA that comes out in the breeding.
  23. Yeah, gonna get a few more. I think we'll end up with 4 in total... 2 boys 2 girls.

G'day and Welcome to the forum. The "rainbow" budgie can be any number of combination of mutations so it's a bit hard to determine what you are going to get. Enjoy the breeding though, I look forward to seeing how it all goes!
