Just to let you all know, Bluey's feathers are back. She did a couple of laps around the lounge tonight. I enjoyed her time running around on the floor though. With the others leaving her behind, we spent more time one on one. It was great and i will miss it Thanks to everyone

I picked up this exact cage recently at pet stock for only $180 on special. A brilliant buy i thought
  3. When my four year old daughters budgie died last year, we told her he was staying at the vets for a few days. We replaced him and really thought she did not know. Then last week when her aunties budgie passed away she said " Why don't they just get a new budgie that looks like pete and call him pete too, like we did when bluey died. My husband and i were stunned
  4. Thank you for your thoughts
  5. Angel passed away last night at the vets
  6. I have put some sulfer based medicine in her water. I have been watching but have not seen her drink, hopefully she has. Fingers crossed for the night. Thanks for all the encouragement.
  7. We live in a small town, the best i will be able to do is the regular vet. It is only 23c today, so i have covered a hottie botttle and put it on the floor. I have also put a cover over, so she thinks it is night and has jumped on her swing. Hopefully this will keep her going until midday tomorrow when the vet opens. Thanks for all advice sue
  8. She did eat seed this morning, but i have not seen her drink
  9. My birds all love the freshest newest leaves growing on our tree. and eating the blossems just before they bloom
  10. This morning one of my birds has become ill. She is sitting all fluffed up on the perch, and her poos are green and runny. I will take to my vet tommorrow, but they are closed for the day now. Any suggestions on what i can do to help her. I have seperated her from the others into the vet cage. She is also pumping her tail

She is back in with the others now. How long do you think until she will be able to fly again?

Thankyou everyone. She seems to be doing fine otherwise, just a bit miffed at being seperated from the other. She does not appear to be sick, heaps of energy. How long will i need to keep her away from the others.

When i let my birds out today, 3 flew off and one hit the floor. Upon close inspection i see that bluey is missing the longer feathers on one of her wings, so cannot fly. I found four long feathers at the bottom of the cage, so it must have happened whilst in there. i have no idea what happened to her. Does anyone have any ideas and will she be okay?
  15. Something over the cage in winter will stop any draughts. My budgie Bluey1 died last year and our vet thought it may have happened because i put the the cage next to the glass panel near my front door so they could get some winter sun. We stayed away overnight and it got down to minus 4 that night. My other budgie Colour was fine, but Bluey1 got very sick, shivering on his perch and a squek in his breathing. The vet told he had a chill and unfortunately he did not pull through. I have learnt a valuable lesson. It gets below zero here most nights in winter (Albury/Wodonga, on the New South Victorian border), I will never go away over night in winter again without leaving the heating on low. If the day temp is forecast to be below 14 degrees i now also leave it on, warm enough to keep the chill out.
  16. Yeah :(Laughing out loud): . I don't think bluey likes me much at the moment as she is often in the bad books and she knows it. Thankyou for your advice it is greatly appreciated
  17. Tonight they have settled with only a little bit of bickering from the two younger girls. I have placed the swings in each corner, so they have a least 18 inches between them. This did not stop bluey from climbing onto the roof and hanging above angel and starting a fight whilst hanging upside down. My presence over them broke it up and Angel left the desired swing and has settled on a perch in the middle. Bluey got her way an now seems content. The other two birds were left alone and settled quietly. I don't wont to take the swings away as Colour has slept on one every night in the 2 years that she has lived with us. I don't want to upset her.
  18. Also, We both work 8 hours aday and cage them during this time for their own safety. Is this necessary. If they could fly free all day it would solve issues of boredom and space?
  19. I finally found a tape measure and it measures 22' x28' accross the base and 30' high, i am pretty hopless at estimating measurement. I chose it over the budgie cages as it was large with easy access to fly in and out,but still suitable for indoors. They are out for about two hours each night and pretty much all weekend. The other 3 budgies are all good, happy, she is the only one who wants to bicker, and it only seems to happen when the are settling for the evening. and has really only started to do so recently. The four swings concern me, but i just want to fair as they all like to sleep on a swing, so it would have to be all or none. The cage gets rearranged every weekend when i empty it out to wash down. My husband thinks i am being obsessive and that it's natural, she wants to be the boss. The pet shop we use is not a big commercial operation, and they only deal/specialise in small birds and fish, the only staff being the owners and their daughter. My husband has built up a good relationship with them over years as he loves fish and they are the only people he trusts. They genuinally care for their animals. I believe they would not delibratley led me astray My second cage is a little over half the size, so i will try giving them more space by splitting them up for a while into twos. See how they go. Any more advice on this move would be greatly appreciated. A bigger cage indoors is not really an option, with all us and two huge fish tanks to contend with. Should i look at moving them outdoors. I just want them ALL to be happy.
  20. All four can sit comfy on the highest perch with out touching the sides or each other, my husband thinks closer to 20"x25" across the base

Thanks for the reassurance on the eucy leaves My oldest Colourann absolutely refuses to eat any fresh food at all. I do not know her history as she came to me as a mature bird, but I am assuming that it was a seed only diet because she just won't, even though she sees the others doing so. The eucy leaves are her only variety, so i was concerned by the getting stoned on eucy thing. The other plants suggested are not in my garden, but my mum has an apple tree, so i will give that a try too Thankyou all
  22. It is a large rectangular cage, with a roof section that opens up, i'm not sure of the exact measurement, but at least 18 inches in length. The pet shop owner where i brought it is very good with big walk in enclosues that he keeps all his birds in. I trust him and he said it was ample for 4 birds. I have four perches (tree branches) and four swings. Two food dishes and two water dishes, a long rope ladder and a long chain of loops, plus a couple of balls on the floor
  23. I have 4 budgies, three females and one male. Colour is the oldest, but i do not know her age as i got her from a shelter and they could not tell me anything other then she was an adult. The other three are all younger, approx 5 months. The problem is Bluebell. Colour is very set in her ways, and recently Bluebell has been trying to challenge her over everything. For example, her swing. Bluey will jump up on Colours swing with her and fight till Colour hops of and moves to a vacant swing, then Bluey just follows her and repeats the process. She also seeks out the other two babes just to bicker with them. They just keep out of her way. At the moment she is in a cage on her own so the others can have some peace, but she clings to the side bars with her head pressed against the roof and i feel sorry for. Can anyone help with why this is happening and what i can do

Try Go-Lo or the Warehouse for millet spray if you can't get elsewhere, they usually have some.

Its more for entertainment when confined to their cage whilst i am at work, then as a food source. I cut off a leafy sprig and they climb on it and hang upside down on it, but they do also have a bit of a munch. As long as it does not effect them in any negative way. I know that the tree is safe as it is in my back yard, but i rinse them is case of pollutants, and the water droplets add to their fun. Thanks for your input
