  1. Funny you should say that...currently my ALL WHITE budgie is ALL PINK!! Thanks to her mineral stick!!
  2. That's great...atleast I'll know what to expect when she breeds. Thanks!
  3. Hi All, Some time ago, I purchased an ALL WHITE baby budgie. It has black eyes with white iris rings. What are the possible genes this budgie could have? Could it be a DF Spangle?
  4. The new chick is the one I posted two pics of today...named "Bunny". It is a much brighter yellow than the DF Dom Pied above, but with similar patchy bits of colour.
  5. Thank you Neat. That's very interesting. Now I know that both her parents are carrying the Pied gene. Maybe the most recent chick, Bunny, will also be a DF Dom Pied too. Her father must be Normal/Dom Pied and mother Dom Pied/????
  6. Can recessive pied budgies have white iris rings? Baby, the recessive pied from the first clutch does. I thought I read somewhere that DF Pieds look like recessive pieds, but with iris rings??
  7. Pics of Bunny, just over 3 weeks old. Too cute! Is he/she a Recessive Pied?
  8. Yes, I wished the other two chicks had hatched closer to when Bunny hatched, they may have survived then. It's sad, but atleast we have Bunny :-)
  9. Hi All, So this is my second breeding experience...thank you all for you help the first time around...all three chicks are going brilliantly. Unfortunately, with this clutch, as good as mummy as she is, we had the 15 day heat wave in adelaide and then it got very cold and stormy for a few days. So out of the 4 eggs laid, we have one survivor. The first and surviving chick hatched on Easter Monday...two more chicks hatched just before the very cold weather and unfortunately didn't make it, the last egg didn't hatch. So we ended up with one very special chick, named Bunny...due to being born at Easter :-) Here is Mummy & Daddy http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd187/mugmole/daddy.jpg And here is Bunny at 2 weeks http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd187/m...unny1080408.jpg Bunny looks similar to a Dom Pied from the first clutch (below), will be interesting to see how he/she develops. Also, from their first clutch, we got a very interesting coloured hen ( all mixed up ), here are some photos of her growth, including one post first moult. The light 'blue' you see on her back in the second photo, is now a blue/green colour, like the colour you can see on her front. Also, you'll notice little spots of the same green around her neck. And her face has gone a brighter yellow to the rest of her body. She's a real bitzer, but a cutie! I will post more pics of Bunny when he/she has grown up a bit more. Lucy
  10. Hi Libby, I'm really interested to see your DF spangle chick as it develops. I have two blue spangles (one sky and one cobalt) sitting on 5 eggs at the moment and I am so, so, so hoping for a DF!!! They are too cute. All your chicks are gorgeous by the way!! Lucy
  11. Or of course, it might be as simple as that!! Thanks Kaz :-)
  12. I have never seen this happen before, so I don't know if it is 'normal' or not, but I would assume not. One of my hens is sitting on 5 eggs at present, this is her first clutch and she is doing a good job. Last night, I was not home, but my Mum watched her come out for a break and she was sitting on a perch eating some leaves and she laid an egg. The egg dropped to the ground and was damaged, so it wasn't able to be saved. Does anybody have an idea why she would do this? Could it be she felt she already has enough eggs to look after, if so, can they not decide when to stop laying?
  13. Decisions, decisions!!!
  14. I'd already come to that conclusion - I'll just be patient. I certainly don't want to cause him any pain. He is happy and healthy enough, so I will just leave him be. I just find it sad that he can't fly around the aviary like he was born to. It's also sad that whoever clipped him only clipped one wing, as from many postings I have read, if you do have to clip it is much kinder to clip both sides evenly. Anyway, hopefully he will moult soon enough and be flying with the other budgies.
  15. Thankyou Norm. I don't want to stress the budgie at all, but I would like it more if it was fully flighted. Maybe I should try to pull out one flight feather first and see how much it stresses the bird. Otherwise, I'll just be patient!
  16. Is it a 'he' - I wasn't sure, becoz he is a fallow and I think I heard somewhere that sometimes their cere's stay a fairly neutral colour and its hard to tell.
  17. The new babies have not hatched yet! :-) There are piccies of the first clutch babies earlier in the post. They were a mixed bunch, so I'm very excited about the new clutch. I will definitely post pics when they start to colour up.
  18. Here are photos of clippy...they were taken 3 months ago, just after christmas day. She/he is still living in my boyfriend's parents aviary, so I won't be able to get some new pics for a fortnight or so, until I go there next. The side on picture shows where the flight feathers have been clipped. Hopefully it won't be too long until he/she moults again.
  19. Hi there, Just wondering, as I have never had experience with clipped wings. At Christmas time I was given a young budgie which had a clipped wing, I have read that it should fix itself when it next moults. It has been three months now and I was wondering how long it usually is between between moults? Also, is it true to speed up the process it is possible to pull the feathers out? I'd rather not do this, but I'm not sure how long it will be until it moults. Cheers, Lucy
  20. Hi All, Just a note to say that this gorgeous couple have laid another clutch, this time 5 eggs. They had such pretty babies last clutch, I'm very excited that they have laid again. I will post photos when they bubs arrive. I also have two blue spangles in my aviary, they have paired up and laid 3 eggs in another next box. This is their first clutch, so will also be very interesting to see the result.
  21. Very interesting, I would have swore that the blue yellowface was a boy, because the colour of the cere not affected is quite blue, but seeing libby's photos makes me wonder. How do I treat scaleyface? Is a treatment available from bird stores or do I need to go to a vet clinic? Thanks Nerwen, yes I had thought of that.
  22. Yes, Clippy has red eyes, so is a fallow. I'll have to do more research into Fallows! Thanks!
  23. Hi All, My lovely boyfriend brought home some special little budgies for Christmas. They are a mixed bunch!! First, we have "BlueBoy". His wings are very pretty, they have no black on them, just the blue colour from his body. Is this a form or spangle or opaline or both? In the aviary at the store "BlueBoy" was kissing "BlueGirl", so my boyfriend brought her home too. Is she opaline? "Clippy" is next...the man at the bird store told my boyfriend he/she is a Violet Fallow, the photos don't show it very well, but she does have very violet feathers on her lower belly and near the base of her tail. She is called Clippy because had a clipped wing, I've never clipped a budgies wing before, how long will it take to grow back? Is fallow a dominant gene? Finally, we have EMO, he wasn't a Christmas present. I saw him at a bird store about a month ago, he is a striking bird, but his cere looked very 'messy'. The man at the bird store suggested against me buying him. He's 3 yrs old, so I thought I'd bring him home anyway and give him lots of TLC. His cere appears to be improving (more blue is showing through). Does anybody know what this is? I've looked up a bit on hypertrophy, but that seems to affect Hen's more than Cocks?? Also, he is quite happy in himself and has LOTS of condition on him!! He's a big bird! Would love to hear your thoughts! Happy new year! Lucy
  24. And finally...we have COSMO!! So...My first 3 babies!! Baby, Buzz & Cosmo. Thanks everybody for your help!!
