  1. Sorry to hear that... poor little guy...
  2. Well i guess seeing as I sell birds who will not be kept for breeding or pets for me, as pets I am a "farmer". To me that seems like total bull ****. I breed birds for the fun of it. Every single one is a new exciting prospect of what can come from them or be created. I'd love to provide all my birds a home, but when it comes down to it if there's not a reason for me to keep them e.g. colour/mutation/sex/fallen in love/room and so on then I will find them a suitable home with a pet family as a baby so they can live a good life No adult birds are sold from my aviary unless I have a baby boom of ones I wish to keep. This has only happened once so far in 2 1/2 years of breeding. Even when this cull happens only birds who I am not attached to will be sold. All other birds I have had for a while will be kept as they're favourites. In my eyes my birds are broken into 2 groups. Pets/tame and pets/breeders. All birds owned have a place in my heart, although some more so than others. I find this depends on personalities and stories which go with the bird. I make a decent amount of profit off my birds, but the profit is not why the birds are here with me. Any profit made i see as a good thing as they're paying for themselves and it allows me to spoil them and provide extra luxuries. If at the end of the day I have spare coinage in my back pocket from the chicks i didn't keep well to me that's a bonus and shows that my birds are happy enough to breed. I agree with Dave opinion, this person clearly is misinformed, narrowminded and totally clueless! Where would the pets come from if there were no breeders... perhaps they need to think of it from that angle.

Hi and welcome Can't wait for pictures also
  4. I agree, a cock
  5. I agree, she looks opaline spangle. Neither are looking well at all. A long rest period before breeding i'd say and they'll need a plucking/trimming for the best hope of getting fertile eggs from them. What year are they, the cock looks old, or VERY sick, he has the "light" appearance to him and as though you can almost see his breastbone. What happened to the budgie in the back ground of the grey cock?
  6. What about IV just to keep his fluids up? Anyone qualified to do it around you?

Hi and welcome Bird and nim are a grey green normal and a sky blue normal Bird 1 is a grey Df dominant pied Bird 2 grey green spangle bird 3 i think is a sky spangle recessive pied bird 4 greywing light green dominant pied My outlook on their mutations Agree with all other advice given about Quarantine and splay legs
  8. Can't only go by the cheek patches theory however because some definate greys still have the blue cheek patches. By body colour and cheek patches and parents it's a Mauve from me.

ooOOoo Nice opaline pied at the end there... I agree that's horrible to get a third for him, he's stunning! But then again, I know JACK about showing yet

I love the last one, very regal looking
  11. Does his neck bone jutt out to one side in his neck? To one side, not the normal buldge at the front. Bob and i thought ours also had a broken neck until we found the grass in it's neck, we had to forcefully remove it with crop flushing and forced vomiting, to get it all out it took 3-4 days but it's right as rain now... Are you positive that your chick has a broken neck? As it looks mighty similar to what mine did
  12. I also use bins, plastic ones with the clips to hold the lid down
  13. you have a grey opaline hen and a light green recessive pied cock. They look good to me, although I'm not sure about breeding condition, perhaps wait a while?
  14. Nopes, mine isn't a slate, we've concluded it's recessive grey in the end. Golden fingers If only!!!! These are all flukes, which some how work out
  15. Can you get a photo of rocky with his head up? In the picture of him alone he looks like he has a swollen neck? with either food in it or sometimes they can get other objects stuck in it. I had a pair who fed their baby strings of grass which blocked up the babies crop pipe and we had to remove it to save him.
  16. Yeah, I know they can produce normal whitefaces, but the fact of being Yf and spangle means they definatly can't be the parents who they were fostered to I just keep it simple when remebering who has what 50% split 25% nothing and 25% visual
  17. Mine love milk thistles also... I've never had a worry with how much I've fed them... my theory is if they eat that much, they know what they're doing They love them

    Is it's crop digesting?
  19. Are they breeding in your garage? I wouldn't have thought there would be enough direct sunlight in a garage for them? Perhaps lack of vitamin D which would definatly cause some major problems with their food intake in this cold weather?
  20. Haha egg fairy, no I don't think so LOL! These birds have two fosters with them which Can't be mistaken as they're YF spangles... The only grey bird I have breeding atm is a Grey DF spangle crest bred, which definatly isn't the dadd of this bird as there were only two fosters to these parents which can't be mistaken :hap: I've kept three of the chicks form these parents so far, soon to be 4-5 I guess So Hopefully I'll have more of the gene floating around in my aviary somewhere
  21. Sorry to hear this When were they last fed? Lorikeets burn up their food very quickly due to it being mainly carbs and how active they are... Perhaps they burnt it up too quickly during the day and were not able to keep their temperature up against the winter colds... I know my lori's even overnight are starving for their morning feed.
  22. I'm not sure with the first one, it almost looks YF but i can't see the pins on it's wings to be definate...
  23. Yes!!! I haven't had opalines in my nests for ages!!! last one was precious!
