Breeding Room
MB Screen door is coming builder just forgot to bring it. okay so it's the end of day two and this is where I am up to I have no lights in there so got these cool flood lights from Bunnings for $6 each, Also got a heater and small radio, picked up the lino and paint. I also found mouse and snake wire, it is designed to keep them in so i figure it will work to keep them out, small enough but not to small so if a Budgie gets out they will be safe. Still needs a second coat, then wire to put but up, roof needs to be painted as well then i will lay the lino... I am so buggered I just want a shower and bed! Whos bright idea was it to paint it myself?????

Breeding Room
okay Day 2 So got up at some ungodly hour for a weekend and caught all the guys in the avairy, got bitten a few times but finally got them in the holding cages. Glad I did as the builders are using an angle grinder right next to the avairy Then I had to go to work for a few hours, home via the bank and got here to give an hand for a few hours before we broke for lunch. At the moment this is what the garage looks like My front drive looks like this... Few issues, the sparkey did not turn up so will have to get him back during the week. Alan my builder forgot to get the screen door but he did get me for free the back door with has a glass pannel on it so yeah more light. The roof is pretty much done, now we move onto the frame, later today i am going to head down to Bunnings and get the lino and painting stuff so that I can start painting later tonight hopefully or maybe early tomorrow before MB comes to pick me up. okay going to go help put the frame up for the division. Will check in later tonight

It Does Not Rain It Pours!
I have given her a flat plate with wood shavings on my dads suggestions, Lime has fallen in love and spent the last few mins thorwing shavings all over himself (and the cage) and is currently lying upside down in them, Lemon is sitting next to the plate Will see how she is tomorrow, going to give her another drop of Calcium just to be on the safe side keep her warm and keep an eye on her over the weekend.

It Does Not Rain It Pours!
Thanks Elly and Feather... see now I think she might just be a bottom nester a hen that looks distressed Not really a hen sitting on the bottom of the cage Yes a hen that has very large droppings that are very runny or contain blood they are large but not runny and do not contain blood a hen who whips her tail or strains painfully She is not whipping her tail it sort of sticks in the air and shakes every now and then a hen that looks weak, depressed or is breathing rapidly weak not really, depressed some times, breathing rapidly no more then the others a hen that looks nervous or moves rapidly from perch to perch Only when she is chasing Lime around a hen that is trying to stretch her body up to get relief Not that I have seen If you look carefully, you should notice a slight roundness of the underbelly or you may be able to feel the egg if you lightly palpate the area.. Nope it seems flat to me Hmmm might go get a flate plate and a soft cloth and move her onto that. She alreay has heat, so will up it a bit. It now really looks like she is sleeping and Lime has joined her Maybe they are just bottom dwellers!

Breeding Room
So I am already to settle in for the night I have done enough so yeah me... Then my boss rings and says she needs me to work tomorrow! so instead of spending the morning put together the cages to move my guys I had to put the cages together tonight... welcome to my nightmare Don't get me wrong I do like the cages and I did get them at a good price but they are a stop gap measure and I got what I paid for. My plan was to give one to Buddy and Boof as now they are cage buddies they need a bigger cage but now after having dealt with them he is going to get Skys cage (after I clean the thing like there is no tomorrow!). I am not sure about the breeding boxes finally worked out how the go on and yes they will be easy to clean but I think they will be messy, they have slits cut in the bottom of them so I think I will line the bottom with news paper or something, open for suggestions. Going to move my guys into the top four cages (keep them out of the dogs range) tomorrow, pairing will be Flame & Blue, Mozzie & Fiji, Cloud & Pretty, Storm & DQ because outside of the last grouping that is how they are paired in the avairy. Not going to put breeding boxes up just hope this will stop any in fighting and keep everyone happy. The other three cages are currently being used by the Quarantine guys and one of the other stand. I still have one stand in a box but I just can't tonight. Thats it I am done!

okay so work really started today. The sparkey came to put the power point in and we moved a mirror and found out there was already one there :hap: So that saved me some money. This is what the garage looked like last time we checked in This is what it looks like now My Back hurts and I am covered in dust but I feel like I have gotten somewhere today. I also got my water cooler just need a bottle for it and am now going to go set up the rest of my cages waiting for me to catch the guys early tomorrow morning.

That is what I am hoping, she seem really active now, running around chasing Lime trying to get him to mount her and they are feeding each other so maybe she is just one of those hens who will not nest in the box? Any idea what i could put on the bottom of the cage to make it nicer on her?

What Ya Lookin At Punk!
Hmmm maybe if I put this feather here my bum will look smaller!

It Does Not Rain It Pours!
I don't think so to tell you the truth, she seems sort of flat, last time I caught her and did a full body check I felt she was a little underweight and I have started to add some oats to their seed mix to help them along over winter. Again tonight she seems sort of flat in that area which is why i am hoping that it is not that.

It Does Not Rain It Pours!
gee thanks guys... *goes and find a brick wall to throw myself against!* I don'y have calvet but I do have a Liquid Calcium Supplement by Avian Science so I put a drop of that on her beak. She is still pass poo and it's big and nasty! I thought that they can't pass if they are egg bound but then maybe I am going insane. She was quite upset about being caught and is now sitting up on the perch so maybe she is just trying to give me a heart attack. Can you give a bird to much calcium? if not then I will add a drop to her beak each day for a bit and see if it helps. She was known as a ground nester, and Ivan said not to have her in the avairy as she will nest and have eggs on the bottom of the aviary so maybe she is just doing what she normally does... I can't handle any more!

It Does Not Rain It Pours!
So after my poor parents dealing with escaped birds ( and may I add my dad catching one in mid flight was impressive, even more so cause he only has like 5% tunnel vision in one eye!) I get home to be greeted by a mess.... So I head out to the aviary and find poor Boof sitting on the ground looking sorry for himself. He just does not seem to be fitting into my aviary. The other birds either ignore him or attack him... He is a really nice bird so I brought him in and had a look. Poor guy is going through a really bad case of Molt. He has a few blood feathers around his cere and looks like a pin cushion at the moment. So I have pulled him inside. Buddy is a really nice bird and I had thought about maybe putting the two together and taming the both. Boof is still a young bird and does not bite, will step up if he has no other option so I am thinking that in the long run he might be happier inside with me and Buddy then in the aviary. I have a video of Boof which when it finishes loading I will put up here, I can't seem to get a good picture of his head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EH8N89yspI I also seem to have an issue with Lemon... she has taken to sitting on the bottom of the cage She puts her head down lifts her tail up and seems to be straining I think... please don't tell me she is egg bound I just can't handle that this week. So yeah maybe I am stressing over nothing, maybe I am just freaking out over every little thing, part of me really wants to take Lemon to the vet but I know that it's probably nothing and she is not a young hen, she did fall off her perch a little while ago and without running large amounts of test that will most likely come back and tell me she is an old hen there is no real reason to take her. There is no reason for her to be egg bound she has never been before and gets everything she needs, *** I don't even know what an Egg bound hen looks like... maybe I should Google that?

Tame And Very Independent Little One
Is he going through molt? If he is it might be the reason, some of my guys HATE being touched around the head while they are going through Molt.

Larger Pet Birds
Will see what he says. I sent him an e-mail asking for him to list his bad habbits and explain why he is getting rid of him and when he gets back to me I will let you know. At the moment it would be to much for me to take on, I know I need to get alot of things settled and we also need to do house renovation and I would not want the bird here for that. or for him to have to live in the Budgie room for weeks on end. Lets apply the brakes and check the rear and side view mirrors....
