Postive News
So everything has been going to *** in an handbag on late for me, so I decided to do a positive post and concentrate on that. First off, took Boof to the vet and he got a clean bill of health vet very impressed on his recovery so much so he does not need to be in a heated box tonight and go to go back in the cage with Buddy. So I set up their temp cage. Boof & Buddy hanging out I also took Lemon with me, and he said she was fine, keep up with the cod liver oil then give her lots of calcium when she comes off doxci, he thinks she might have an egg in the works. He also recommended a change to her cage so that the nest box goes on the ground (MB you where right!) Here is Lemon and Limes new set up So now that people have moved around cages here is my to be cleaned pile of cages (yes MB yours will be one of the first I do) Vet recommended warm water and detol. And my to be thrown out pile but does not fit in the rubbish bin Now for the rest of the guys. First up my sort of new, raid MBs aviary have to give them back if they have really nice babies SheRa and HeMan (named by the boy down the street today) okay on to the sickies... Kadaj who I really like and will hopefully pair with DQ, he has really nice grey markings on his tum tum and for $5 I thought was a good buy The girls - Ashley and Grey (Grey is the normal grey) They are the sickest out of the lot, but both are coming on well, no tail bobbing but still really runny poop The Boys - Brandon & Mickey (Brandon is the one with flecks in his head) Both got marginly sick and now are almost better, as with Kadaj I will restart their quarantine next week or so they will be the first to join the base flock they are also destined to be the girls first breeding partners Sky My resuce girl, I can not believe that she has survived! I really thought a few times that I had lost her. But she is one tough old bird! She still has the crop issue and the vet said that if I wanted to breed from her then I should foster the eggs out as feeding chicks may be to much stress on her crop. I will see how she is 6 months down track she has some really nice size to her so I might give her a round with a big cock if I can find one that will be nice to her. Flame & Blue Going great will be one of the first pairs I put down to breed (and before you say it this was the best shot I could get of them, both of them know who I am and what a camera means and both hate it when I pull it out!) Fiji & Mozzie She never liked anyone and has just fallen in love with Fiji and he seems to love her back so I might let them go a round in the breeding cages, funny thing to watch her beat the **** out of him and he takes it and comes back for more Cloud & Tifa (formaly known as pretty) She got renamed and these two paired up. I love the patch of black on Clouds back can't really see this in the picture Storm & DQ (short of Drama Queen) DQ lives up to her name and will be going into a breeding cage with Kadaj when he gets 100% and has a rest before breeding, Storm is an egg smasher so I am not sure I will ever breed from her she also has a funny shaped head so I might just let her live out her time in the aviary. Harley & Lucky The love of my life, my grumpy old man, my first and my baby no matter how many times he bites me! and my new girl So that is me done I am now at what 22 birds Found out today that I am not allowed to reach up due to complications with my surgery that I had at the start of last month so Mum and Dad are coming down to help finish the bird room. Looks like it will be complete by next weekend, then a week to air then the sickies will go in there and the rest will go in the aviary then come the end of Aug All will go in the aviary and I will set the bird room up for breeding to start in September..... I have a plan, I am a gal with a plan!

The Night Of Living Terror
Your telling me neat. But it does look good. The Quarantine guys are looking really well. The guys outside have come along and being really good. Harley is looking better then he has in years. My Breeding room is coming along well. So come about the 30th of Aug I can look at moving people into breeding cages and start breeding. Everyone will be off meds by that stage, Kadaj looks so well that I am happy to reset his Quarantine and the boys Micky and Brandon are also doing really well. Just got to get their girlfriends over the line and we are home and hosed. Sky is also 500% better. It's just then when things start looking up something like this happens and BANG I am back at the start again. But we are getting there. :hap:

If he stays intrested he will be allowed to pick the chick that he wants and I will not charge him for the babay. Not to mention that when I go away if he is up to it I will pay him to look after my birds so he can make some money on the side! :hap:

Well he rocked up at 6.15am today and did most of it as I sat there drinking coffee also read all the instructions that the vet left and asked if he could come with me to the vet tonight when I take Boof. So I figure he is going well will have to see if he can keep it up.

Breeding Room
The bottom few do not have birds in them only the top two on each row. The rest are in storage now or are being used by the other guys, only put them there for the shot. I will most likely never use the bottom row as I feel it is to low to the ground and the top row would only be holding and not used for breeding as I would need a ladder to view the boxes (yes I am short!)

Breeding room is underway. you know things where really looking up.... Liv thanks, nice to know that with a little TLC they can get over these things. I was really impressed with the vet, now I just have to wait for the bill! Thanks guys for the well wishes and thoughts

The Night Of Living Terror
okay so I have brought Boof in from the aviary to be cage mates with Buddy. They get along really well, Buddy is such a friendly little guy and Boof is still young and happy to have a friend that does not beat him up. Boof is also going through the worse case of molt that I have ever had on a Budgie so he is cranky and annoyed with the world. I decide to clip Boofs wings and MB comes around to help me. During the little procedure he catches his foot on the clippers we see this remove it and is fine, put him back in the cage, go to put more stuff in the car and my sister tells me that Boof is bleeding. So I catch him clean it up, put blood stop on his foot, he also has blood all over his head so we figure that he has scratched it with his bleeding foot. Everything appears fine off to we to finish the aviary we are putting up at MBs... I get home and there is blood all over the cage So I catch him again clean him up again, put more blood stop on his foot and it seems to be right, clean out the cage and go to bed... I wake up at about midnight, for no reason, nothing woke me up but I just sat up in bed and thought "I have lost one" So I go and do a head count, everyone outside is fine outside of being upset I put on all the lights and woke them up, everyone in Quarantine is fine outside of a turned over water bowl. I check the study, fine fine fine... get to Buddy and Boofs cage and it looks like a blood bath So I grab them both as they are covered in Blood. I think that maybe they had a fight or something cause really there was blood everywhere, I start to clean them up, Buddy first cause he is easier, there was so much blood on the side of his face that he could not open one of his eyes...... Once he was done I gave him a warm dish of water to bath himself in and he was happy doing that as I start on Boof. I go straight for the foot but once clean can not really find anything that would cause this amount of blood, I look at the tea towel that he was wrapped in and it is getting more and more blood on it. Finally I attack his head and find a crop of blood feathers. About three where broken and bleeding right under his eye. I remove these three, try and bath the area a bit and add more blood stop. I then find another one on the top of his head that is also seeping so it to is removed and more blood stop applied. Buddy at this stage is upside down in his dish of warm water screaming and having fun, Boof is so annoyed at me that I think he wants to take one of my fingers off and I am sitting on the floor of the bathroom just after 1am crying holding a fluffy bloody mess. Boof started going limp and I really thought that he had bleed out in my hand. So I call the emergency number for the vet down the road from me. I get the nice one who I like he says that since there if no much difference between going to the clinic and coming to my house he would grab his stuff and meet me in about 20 mins. To keep Boof still and warm until then. So I am still sitting on the floor in the bathroom (it has heating lights and one of the warmest rooms in the house) with a limp Boof in my hands and a now sort of depressed Buddy who was sitting on my wrist looking at his mate going "mum what’s going on why is he not getting up to play with me" The vet rang the doorbell which my sister got up to answer and had no clue what was going on. They both found me and Boof was given about 4 injection. To tell you the truth at this stage I had sort of faded out. I remember people moving around me and my sister giving me something warm to drink. Boof was set up with a heat pad and put in a small box the vet brought with him. The vet showed my sister how to give him another injection today, I was cleaned up and put to bed and Buddy was put in a cage next to Boof's heat box and the vet left with instructions for my sister to give him an injection when she got up and for him to bring him down to the surgery when I got him from work. (my sister is a diabetic so injections are nothing new to her) He seemed a lot chipper today when I was doing the rounds but I will admit last night was one of the worse nights of my life. The vet said that Boof will have to always be watched during molt as this may happen again. I think he took about 4 or 5 other blood feathers out of the poor guy as well. Last night is something that I do not want to ever have to live through again.....

I am really impressed. Last night just before I fell into bed there was a knock on the door. The lady down the road and her 9 year old son Seems he wants a Budgie and my next door neighbor who they are good friends with told them to come see me as I have them. So I show them in, show them all my guys and the mother asks if her son (Brandon) come and help me a few morning a week to see what is really involved with looking after a bird. I say sure (hey free help will take what I can get!) So at 6.30am today there is a knock on my door and we get ready. First off I explain to him that some of my birds are in Quarantine and why and said that we would do them last. So we go outside and do the guys outside. I tell him who each bird is, we catch Blue and show him wing, break and feet. Explain how to tell a boy from a girl and also color mutations, the kid is a quick study cause he started asking all these questions half I could not answer! Anyway he fell in love with DQ, loves her colours and asked me if I would every have babies with the same mutation. if I every get Kadaj well then I will put the two together and hopefully have same colour chicks. Then we did the guys in the study, We had a play with Buddy and the quick little guy he is asked why Buddy's wings are strange (he has his wings clipped) so I showed him that and explained the pros and cons. We did the feed for the guys and washed all the bowls. He was being so careful to measure out only a few drops of Cod Liver oil for lemon and lime. We then did the Quarantine guys, while we where doing everyone and changing the bottom of the cages I pointed out the budgies poop to him, with the Quarantine guys he kept asking him what was different. he was very good, also he picked the discharge around the cere and tail bobbing.... smart kid. I think I sounded like a nut talking to a 10 year old about budgie poop but hey he has to learn sometime right? Anyway his mum came down to pick him up at about 8.30am, and she showed her DQ and then Kadaj and was telling her how when they have chicks he would like one but he has to learn more. I gave him to read my Budgie books and he asked if he could come and help me do the rounds in the mornings which I am more then happy for him to do cause it means if he can do them that if I go away I have someone who knows what they are doing. he has also offered to help me paint the Budgie Breeding room. So really lets see if he is still interested in helping me but I think he is converted!

It Does Not Rain It Pours!
Update on lemon, she seemed fine today. Spoke to Ivan he said that she never showed intrest in nesting boxes and had her clutches on the ground... he said he did tell me this But as I have said before I adopted them cause no one else wanted them and they are just my happy old couple. Rang the vet, not allowed to give her much calucim as she is on doxy and they count each other out. So she now gets 3 drops of cod liver oil in her seed... I had never hear of this but if she has eggs then it will help her pass them. I have set up a ground nest for her but Lime seems to have more fun playing in the wood shavings then Lemon who seems to ignore it.... Buddy and Boof are getting along well. Buddy seems more settled now that he has a cage mate Boof is all cranky with going through molt so i am going to let them settle before going back to handling them. The size differece is funny, Buddy is SOOOOOOO small compared to Boof and there is not much difference in age! Boof seems to go from being all friendly to being all "go away I don't like you" poor Buddy does not know if he is a friend or foe.... Keeps trying to feed Boof!
