Nice bird Liv...good luck with them both.
  2. He! He! He!...smart move Liv...I bet you requested the bird room. You better change the record cards too, as Kaz keeps a pretty tight rein especially on the better birds...a rub here a rub there she will be none the wiser...LOL. get a couple for me too. I think I'm getting some pretty good looking birds myself these days, but of few of Kaz's wouldn't go astray...& we would be doing her a favour she needs the room what with all those new birds she keeps buying.

Green hen looks nice Kaz…don’t know about that theory of having Opaline in her background…seems to me most of the show types have multiple spots these days, whether it came via Opalines would be hard to tell. Can’t believe you still have room to buy more birds Kaz.
  4. I suspected accommodation would be something like that…as what with all the cats, dogs, birds etc there couldn’t be much spare space. Have a great time Liv.
  5. Looks like Vinnie & Sootica are feeding well even though they were a bit weak in the fertility stakes…hopefully Vinica may be better in that line…amazes me how you girls keep coming up with all those names for your Budgies…non of mine have a single name & they don’t seem to suffer any complexes. I also love those YF Violets. One of my favourite colours.

    CONGRATULATIONS Splat...nice bird.

Looking good Sunnie...yes you can get a Sky Blue from Grey, as you have found out, but Grey is pretty Dominant, so will probably get more Greys. Good wing pattern on those Spangles.

Looks mostly like wild oats they would have enjoyed them...not sure about the red ones, but could still be oats.

I agree with Kaz I wouldn't risk them.

Some spring pictures of my garden, or should I say jungle. Wisteria in the tree tops. Clivias. Calendula...a little early in the morning, haven't opened properly. Angels Trumpet [brugmansia].

Nice birds Libby, I wish my Fallows looked as good, I have a lot or work to do. Good luck with them.
  15. The choice is ultimately up to you, depending on what you want, space & what you want to spend at the time. But as others have said, if they come from good stock, you will probably be getting a good gene pool & even if birds aren’t show beaters themselves they could produce far better birds than themselves. That’s if your lucky, quite a few good looking birds I have bought ended up not breeding…so it’s all a gamble.

Hi Jimmy you’ve been a strange around here.
  17. In my experience you wont normally get such good qualities in a TCB as not so many are breeding them, if you like the mutation you have to do some work yourself in breeding up the quality. I agree that number 2 is a nice bird, & agree with Kaz that no3 hasn’t such a deep mask, but his blow, from the top of his cere to the top of his head is better in my opinion, they look like they could be brothers, so may have similar genes.

Nice birds Kaz, I especially like the Grey Green from the auction...& did you notice Neat even saying a Green bird is stunning.
  19. Looking good Kaz…Spunky looks more like Spiky to me…it’s head reminds me of a an Echidna…LOL. Sorry Elly, I think Merlin runs things over there...he's the only one...no competition till he has gone.

Sorry to hear that Daz we will miss you, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING.
  21. Some very interesting & useful articles Elly, thanks for finding those for us, I’m always looking out for articles where other breeders suggest which they have found are the best matings to produce certain Mutations.
  22. You can have a Dominant Pied on a Recessive Mutation…Dominant Pied is just another Mutation, it doesn’t mean it Dominates everything else, it can be a Dilute which is what a BES is [Dilute Green Series bird] Self means the bird is one colour, but most BES aren’t perfect they still have Pattern, they mostly mate them with Cinnamons to remove as much Pattern as possible…of course it’s also possible it is Grey wing as well, it would be very difficult to tell…The same as you also can have a Dominant Pied, Fallow. I’m sticking to BES Dominant Pied see what you find out.

Don’t blame yourself Neat the only thing you did wrong if you can call it that was not to notice the feather mites, but you probably haven’t had that experience yet, then you noticed it & have done everything right now that’s all you can expect. If you have sprayed the cage & will do it again, I would say three weeks is a good time, as that’s about the time eggs hatch, if they are good perches they should be safe. Re the fly spray I recommended as a cheap spray, it’s not a problem, it’s the way Canary breeders used to treat air sac mite before Ivermectin came along, the birds had to breath the spray into their lungs to kill the mites & Canaries would be weaker than Budgies I would think & I never had any die. But now with Ivermectin it’s much better & permanent as the air sac mite as the name says, even gets into the air sac in their bones, which the spray could never reach, whereas Ivermectin does & completely removes them & often they don’t need further treatment if the mite isn’t introduced again.
  24. okay I think it’s a Yellow Black Eye Self Dominant Pied. Re the spot on the back of the head thing…I believe the small spots are a sign of a Recessive Pied & as said Dominants can’t be split, but I think a bird with a large spot [only] on the back of it’s head is still a Dominant Pied as it only needs that one spot & genetically it’s already a Pied.

I agree with DrNat…& also people create Spam if you never responded to Spam there would be no point to it, but some people for one reason or another respond. I don’t even read it, straight to the delete button & if they can take just one or two in, it has been worth their effort, it’s the same with drugs if no one bought drugs there wouldn’t be a drug problem. It’s also the same with phone marketing, I object to being phoned to be sold something or have me donate money to some cause, no matter how deserving the cause, if someone phones me for those reasons & don’t take the hint that I’m not interested, as rude as it might be I just hang up on them & if everyone did the same we wouldn’t have this problem…all these things happen because they gain, if they gained nothing they would soon give up. Of course this is just the simple answer…people respond or get sucked in for often simple or complexed reasons, like poor self esteem, lack of love, greed caused by the previous causes, lack of, or the desire for power, which I believe is because of lack of love & self esteem. It’s a big problem that goes to the heart of our societies & family groups. I could say more but no more time at the moment.
