My Aviary....start To Finish
Looks very good Kaz. Don't rush to fill it up - you are doing a great job as it is.

Cosmo is sick
Give him time. They are such frail little things that when they go close to the edge it takes a little while to come back.

Introducing My Feathered Friends
welcome

Large First Clutch!
so Renee you are offering to loan good breeders, split the current pair, let the two pairs breed, and then take back your birds? Very generous.

Large First Clutch!
Calcium bells are good, but you should also provide some liquid calcium, in the form of calcivet, in their water

Greywings
great as usual Kaz. I really like the paler one. I think he has a great blow, of course, that is the way it looks in the photos.

Can A Cocks Cere Turn Brown?
My trans gender DF spangle cock/hen BEFORE and NOW That is an amazing change Kaz. Did you ever use him for breeding? Was he successful?

Winter Infection
i would say take the bird to the vet, but that may not be possible in bangladesh Heat lamp, 40 watt globe, not the power saving type, lamp on 24/7 Small cage, low perches, cover three sides of the cage If you have access to a vet or medicines, then more is possible. Do you?

Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
I am sure you are mistaken Renee. Why would Kaz keep one with my ring on it? Surely my ring is on this bird!?!?!?!?!?

Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
Join the queue! There seems to be many people making a paly for our birds here Kaz. It is a shame that the third one did not make it, as you could have auctioned it off to the highest bidder. Oh well, not everyone can be as lucky as us to have such great birds. When can i expect delivery by the way?

Fishy Breath
I am interested that dog biscuits are a good source of protein. I have never though to give these to my budgies.

My Aviary....start To Finish
You have done a wonderful job with the aviary Kaz. Make sure you sit back and look at where you were 5 years ago and appreciate how far you have really come. Well done.

Breeding Pairs 2009
He is a cec gearing bred bird. His father was an opaline grey green and his mother was a cinnamon wing blue.

Avian Vet Needed
Ring the emergency vet at Strathfield and ask them about an avian vet in your area. They know all the vets and might be able to help

Help With Mutations Please...
The cheek patches can confirm for us sceptics that they are not greygreens. The violet factors, mixed in with dark factors, seem to be causing us the confusion of what colour 2 of the young birds are.

Breeding Pairs 2009
Yes, sky violet cinnamon opaline hen was my guess. Always strange to put a normal grey cock to an albino hen and to end up with a sky violet cinnamon opaline and a sky blue opaline normal. Genetics is a funny thing.

Albino?
I think you have a female lacewing

Budgie Die At Welsh Show
The connection is that canaries, like budgies, have very small lungs, so when the bird is exposed to a minimal dose of gas, it does not have the capacity to breathe in the gas, and still survie. What occurred is a tragedy. Plain and simple.
-
Over-weight Budgie?
How much exercise does she get? Does she sit in small cage, or fly around in a big cage or aviary? Your thinking is sound though. I have a hen who was always fed by her partner. She was veyr plump as she never had to move (honestly I think she is scared of heights, but that is another issue). Anyway, she never had to move, her partner fed her in the aviary. When she was breeding, she lost a lot of weight and she is back to a healthy normal weight now. It will be interesting to see what happens in regard to her weight over the next 12 months or so.

Thinking of it as removing the yellow helps a lot actually. Well done RIP for your posts explaining it, and Finnie, for your synopsis.

Breeding Pairs 2009
She looks a bit pale for a Violet. Did you take those photos with a flash? I did use the flash, but it is necessary, sorry. I think she would be a sky violet, but the cinnamon has washed her colouring out. I originally thought she was going to be grey, but we can see from the cheek patches, and the mottled colouring of her chest feathers, that she is in fact going to be blue. You can see the bright sky blue coloured feathers and also some washed out looking purpley coloured feathers. Until her first moult, it is still all specualtion, but she is definitely not grey. Thanks GB.I am not sure I am doing that much. The birds do all the work, I am just along for the ride.I agree, I thought she was going to be grey, but it seems I am wrong. Like I said in my reply to Renee, I am still trying to best guess her colour. The cinnamon washed out the colour. It is not your monitor, you are in agreement with me. Don't put yourself down, you are right. All is looking good here at Wattle Flights. You are right there too.

Wattle Flights
bucket - hot day, looking for water source. I just went to my local pet store and bought some new toys. My birds use the drinkers that guinea pigs use, with the ballbearing, and I always worry that the water will get overheated. My current ones are about a year old and craker with the sunshine, so I needed new ones. I bought two new drinkers. Nothing new there. I bought one of a new style, that you can fill from the top when it is either clipped on or you can take it away, leving a clip screwed on. I bought two little unsulators. They are like little cooler bags that go over the drinker. The cooler bags have two straps, each with a little clip that can clip to the wire. This means that the water should stay cool inside the cooler bag. I also bought a clip that attached and you can attach a 1.25 or even a 2 litre coke bottle to it. the drinking arm is attached to a screw on attachement designed to handle the weight of the water container. That makes it so much easier to change the water. Great if you are doing a medicinal run. I am going to attach a few different styles to the aviary and see which does the best job over summer and which ones the birds like more. I will take some pics, and if the findings are useful, I might even move all this info into a new topic.

Wattle Flights
I did that before but I ended up losing two birds. I would rather not do that anymore. I can always get fresh branches.
