  1. It looks like they will all grow into stunners... especially the blue pied and light green pied
  2. Aww, that last photo is just too cute for words...

Twist is an extremely handsome budgie. I am pleased that he found his way to someone who was interested in looking after him properly. Well done.
  4. I'm interested too. SOunds like a great idea.
  5. No wonder you wanted a green opaline, Sparkie is a good looking boy! I love them inspecting the place :grbud:

fantastic article - thanks for sharing
  7. I agree with lovey. Definitely cover the cage to minimise any stress on the journey. I always cover mine for trips to the vet.
  8. Hi Kevin, Budgies like to stay up high as that is where they feel safest, but if you make the lower parts of the cage interesting enough they will go down there. I have my seed trays down low in the cage and I always put their vegetable bowl on the bottom. There is nothing wrong with putting the millet on the bottom, just make sure it in not under perches so it doesn't get fouled.
  9. Thank you all so much. Beau - minus the greywing part Keely - she is very definately cobalt in the lower part of her body, but she is very definately violet up close to her neck and the V between the wings is violet - which is where I got the colour mixed up (You can see that she has 2 colours in the photo of her back). Her cheek patches are also purple. It is hard to see the colour in the photos. Could she be a pied perhaps with that colouring? (I understand that mauve is much darker now.) Tealah was the only other one in question and I have never seen any blue on anywhere on this budgie, at any age, so I am going to agree with Nerwen. I still think it is a dark green normal. As for whether to call Zanthie a danish or a recessive pied, most breeders in Australia tend to refer to them as Danish, so, being an Aussie, I figured I may as well stick to that terminology. Thanks again, I very much appreciate everyone's opinions and it seems I didn't do too bad a job at classifying them.
  10. Oh, really sorry to hear that Karen. I hope bub makes it.
  11. That was so good to watch... and lovely looking birds too
  12. Tealah has no blue under her wings and has been all green from before her first moult?
  13. Fantastic, especially with Baby getting extra nutrition. I was surprised with my 3 new budgies as they took to veggies really well too.. they always clean up every last bit of what they are given.
  14. Beau is a double factor dominant pied. They don't always have banding.. The only thing that gives him away as a pied is the white patch on the back of his head. Dekota is now very green, but she was skyblue as a baby and has blue still under her wings. And the violet is hard to see in the photos, but Keely is definately a violet, not cobalt. Thanks, Sco-tie

Thanks for showing us, Nathan. I only have one name for you. The biggest green male is so much bigger than the rest of your flock, that I think you should name him Brutus.
  16. Below is what I think my original babies are. Beau: Dominant pied, skyblue greywing spangle Dekota: Golden face skyblue spangle Keely: Mauve opaline sangle Tealah: Dark green normal Zanthie: Danish pied yellow Do you concur??
  17. Well, that explains everything... I was wondering at two similarly coloured birds with, coincidentally, the same name :hap:
  18. Jules, I also refer to the one that lovey mentioned. I also found Nerwen's page on genetics very easy to understand. http://geocities.com/nerwenfuzz_82/
  19. ahhh, we don't have wierd thing in Oz, like peanut butter in chocolate.. very strange :grbud: That explains Reese.

  22. Oh, Calico is a super cutie.
  23. JellyBean, Bubble Gum, Skittles, Starburst, Mars, and reece? Is Reece a type of lolly or chocolate I don't know about? Great pics too.

He is just showing off how flexible he is. I see both Cookie and Blinkie think your knees make a pretty good perch :budgiedance:
