  1. Hi I have 2 budgies one name winter(female) and one stormy(male) now I could be wrong but I always or was told that the female would be the more dominant of the pair, however my stormy is rather bosy when I first got the birds which was about a week ago I had them in a inside cage it was to small for the 2 so they are now outside in a much bigger cage, anyway in the small cage to get away from my hand stormy would move to the end of the perch now if winter was in the way he would just chirp at her peck a bit and then stand on her to get her to move? now in the bigger cage I put some millet in there for them this morning he loved it but winter wanted some but everytime she came near he would "yell" at her and try to peck at her she had to climb to the other side of where he was to get some, why wouldn't he share? for the most part they get on rather well, but I'm sure when I am out there he is trying to intimidate her he flys over her head he will jump of his perch do a lap around her head then land in the same spot he started? whats that about. when I watch them through the window they seem fine he will do it evey now and then but when I walk outside its almost always?? any help would be muchly appreciated :dbb1:
  2. his tail feather's are more black than blue with a couple of grey specks, and she is completely white with full black eyes
  3. thanks for that Karen the finches I had were atleast a few years old or atleast that is what I was told when I got them, and I have done all that with the cage and it was a couple of months inbetween when the finches died and when I got the budgies and I changed all the perches and my partner even painted the outside of the cage for me the lady that I got the budgies from said that she hadn't clipped them and she does fly is she is frightened like when my 4yr old daughter walks over and squeeks at her which I have tried to stop, but she is 4 and she thinks she is talking to them hehe
  4. Hi yeah I know I have to remove the box I am doing it today when I clean the cage, I do have the opening to the box closed over with a bit of cardboard, I have asked this question elsewhere but maybe you could tell me can I put sand in the bottom of there cage? I have newspaper in there at the moment but it keeps getting blown around a bit and then the cage would be harder to clean I thought sand might be easier? oh and my female has dark eyes they look black to me
  5. Hi all thanks for the welcome, I am finding this site very helpfull, I haven't had the birds very long about a week I had 2 finches before that were given to me and they both died not sure why the first one went in its sleep in its nest and the other went a couple of weeks later not sure what happened as they both looked fine, anyway have always wanted budgies and my sister has had budgies a couple of years so I got a couple, I did want to tame them but they were more interested in each other than in me and I felt bad for them being in a small indoor cage so I moved them to a bigger outdoor cage and they are very happy in there, anyway I had a little success with taming them as they aren't really afraid of me I can get my hand in the cage and near them without them freaking out, they even get game enough to put one foot on my finger but thats as far as it goes hehehe, can anyone tell me is it okay to put sand in the bottom of there cage, I have newspaper in there at the moment but the wind seems to blow it around a bit and therefore the bottom of the cage will be hard to clean, also has anyone got any idea's on why winter doesn't want to fly in the cage stormy is a real show of and fly's all the time from one perch to another and around the cage but when it comes to winter getting around she will jump from one perch to another but she prefer's to climb everywhere else? wow thats really long winded hehe sorry if i have bored anyone hope ya can help with my questions
  6. okay this is the best I could do, stormy likes to show off when I walk out the back to the cage and wont sit still and I'm sure he know's I'm trying to take a photo of his back and I didn't get one of winter as she is just white all over she has no markings, and you can sort of see her to the left of the bottom photo I hope these help coz I would love to know what they are, the cage isn't that huge it is about 5 times the size of a normal indoor cage, I haven't got a photo of the whole cage sorry
  7. Hi there all just wanted to poke my head in and say hi I am also a newbie and here is a picture of my budgies white one called winter and the blue/grey one is called stormy
  8. Okie dokie, I'll try hehe, no my white one doesn't have red eye's, these photo's aren't that great stormy wouldn't stay still I'm sure he knew I wanted to take a picture of him, also I wasn't sure if he was a male because around the outer edges of his cere it is pinkish purple and I had read somewhere if they were like that its hard to tell, but the centre of it is definately blue, okay here are more picture's knowing what they are would be great.... also thanks for all your help Karen :hap:
  9. Hi thanks for your help I think I have this thing figured out now, finger's crossed this works here are my 2 new budgies okay I'm just getting used to how to do this so it might not work but if it does the white one is called winter and the blue/grey is stormy they are no longer in this small cage, coz they were both gettin a little bored in there I would find them both walking back and forward in the bottom like they wanted to get out, so I have moved them to a bigger outside cage, and stormy loves it he/she fly's around all the time from one perch to another and then kinda does loopty loops around the perch's and winter on the other hand she isn't as enthusiastic as stormy she doesn't seem to want to fly she will jump from one perch to another but when it comes to getting up and down and around the cage she prefer's to climb any idea's why? also anyone got any idea's on there age I know it might be hard to tell from the pics I was told winter was about 6 months........ anyway sorry this is rather long winded help would be great! :hap:
