  1. Your budgies look very happy sitting on their little wooden house! There are plenty of knowledgeable people here who'll be happy to tell you what colour your flock are. Chucky looks just like my Smudge, who is a yellowface type II and also opaline - which I learnt thanks to this forum, so I'm sure you'll find out what your birds are :bluebudgie:
  2. This thread has been interesting. When I first brought home my new bird, Smudge, I had absolutely no idea what colour he was...my only other budgie having been a normal green (but still beautiful) bird...hence he aquired the name Smudge! From this forum I judged him to be a type II and someone also told me he is an opaline. He seems to have changed colour considerably in the 2 months he has been with us. This is him a few days after I got him. He was very blue at that time, with the green "smudges" being mostly at the top of his chest. His cere was also rather pink so we were unsure whether to call him he or she Here he is last week and he is practically all over turquoise (and pretty much certainly a he)! He has two distinctly blue patches just under his blue cheek patches and his tail is quite blue too. Nonetheless he has changed colour quite a lot! Is this a thing that happens to most type IIs? Do you think he will carry on changing at each moult?
  3. What a beautiful, colourful flock you have! The in-flight picture is especially awesome. They must keep you endlessly entertained with all their antics
  4. Roger is so cute!! Budgies never fail to surprise me with their mad antics :hap:
  5. I posted a bit about Smudge in the introduce yourself section, but didn't have any pictures of him. Had him a couple of months now. He's hand tame but only been out of his cage a few times as I have been intermittently away from home and because for a while he was too scared to come out even when we left the door open for him. Not long after I got him (Poor quality as taken with camera phone) Looking coy Look at the pretty colours! Smudge is a yellowface type II I believe (from seeing other pictures on this forum)...in some places he is practically kingfisher type turquoise Before Smudge I had another male called Pip, whom I had for ten years. Incredibly tame, he was a wonderful friend with a lovely playful nature. He did however take a shine to human food, particularly toast. Here is my favourite picture of him. I had made scones at school that day and he decided that he liked the look of the one my mum had, flew onto her head, slid down her nose and landed on the scone and proceeded to munch away... This scone is mine now!! RIP my beautiful boy

Found this forum just googling for budgie stuff as I was trying to find out what colour my new budgie is. After seeing pictures of some other peoples' lovely birds I now know that he (pretty sure he's a he) is a yellowface type II, who we have named Smudge, for his smudgy green and blue chest (and it also rhymes with budge :budgiedance: ) Bought my first bird when I was ten with my birthday money, parents weren't that keen, but relented. Pip was a lovely normal green bird and won over the entire family in about 10 minutes! He was already hand tamed by his breeder, but quickly became my best friend. He learnt to talk, was awesome at playing football (he took over ownership of some yellow practise plastic golf balls my dad had as they had holes in and he could pick them up, throw them and then chase after them) and loved toast. Sadly, he died a year ago at the respectable age of ten. Now, we have Smudge, who is very different. He's more nervous than Pip, but hopefully with patience he'll blossom. He's just had his first few tentative forays into the world outside his cage and made himself a nice nest on top of the curtains! Will post some pictures when I get a chance. Hopefully I can pick up some tips here as to how to go about making sure Smudge is just as happy as Pip was.
