  1. (Laughing out loud)...I know how you feel Bea. Holly is still humping his jingly ball toy like there's no tomorrow and he also humps his ladder, chats up his cuttlefish and has even tried to hump my hand a few times!!! But what can you do? I couldn't take away his toys...and even if I did I'm sure he'd just find a side of the cage to hump instead. I guess I'm just thankful he's only a little birdie and not a great big Great Dane dog trying to hump everything in sight!
  2. Haha, my first budgie Pip used to do that with a big vase of my mum's...he used to stick his head in it and make noises (I think he just liked the echos)...but one day he forgot to hold on, let go with his feet and plopped in...and I retrieved a rather dusty, but completely unphased bird from the vase :budgiedance:
  3. Woohoo I'm not going crazy! Thank you Lovey, I thought of Pretty when I've been examining Holly's cere...the close up photos of Holly really don't reflect what his cere looks like in real life...there is a lighter area around each nostril, but it doesn't look anywhere near as white as it does in the last picture. Most of the cere is a pinky purple colour...and the poor jingly ball is still getting humped to within an inch of its life. I think unless I come back and find an egg in that cage, I'll treat him as a boy!!
  4. So cute and pink and absolutely adorable! Plus your picture of potential daddy Snowball makes me more and more convinced my Holly is a boy..the ceres are very similar in colour, but Holly's never comes out in photos how it looks in real life. I'm sure your little pink baby will grow up to be an even more beautiful birdie
  5. Oh my god, that is fabulous!! I think my Dad would think I'd finally gone insane if I bought one...he thought the playgym was hilarious enough! Mind you I have plenty of hair that Holly likes to preen and normally a necklace or zip to nibble...but the protection from poo would always be handy :hap:
  6. Had Holly out the other day and Dad got out the digital camera and managed to get some good shots of him...I say him, cere is still pretty much the same colour as when I got him, but he does the male head bob and flirt with inanimate objects routine pretty well, plus his poor little green and yellow jingly ball has been getting humped like no man's (or no budgie's) business for the last week or so, so I'm still referring to him as a he. This place looks interesting. Ooh a hand! Posing is fun He's up against my cheek here but I had no make up on and greasy hair so I spared you the horror! The budgie football tournament was in full swing, with Holly out on the wing... What do I do with the ball once I've got it? And the cutest picture of them all :bluebudgie: Any comments on Holly's cere colour/gender are welcomed, though as I said at the top of my post, he definitely acts like a boy! Oh, and I think the greeny patches on him were caused by the flash...he is completely white with red eyes in real life I promise :dbb1:
  7. Awww lovely birds...I think Bunny is my favourite though...he's such a lovely pastel shade
  8. So I've heard lots about blood feathers and them breaking, but I've never seen one up until now, probably because my two previous budgies were dark coloured birds so they probably had them at some point but I just never noticed. Holly however, being whiter than white (i.e. albino ) has changed all that. The feather is on his wing, it appears to be at the very base of the first long flights (the ones that grow the longest). Should I be extra careful with him while I can see this feather? I've just started letting him out and he's still getting used to flying around the room and I'm worried he'll knock something and break that feather. How long do feathers normally spend in that kind of active growing phase too? Hope someone can put my mind at rest and tell me not to worry. After poor Smudge I'm so worried I'm going to lose another baby too soon.
  9. He is beautiful...I love red eyed budgies...Holly has converted me I love Milo's little yellow splodges, he looks like someone let their child paint him :budgiedance: sooo cute
  10. He is indeed albino...red eyes, white feathers, very cute little pink feet! Those top two pics make it look like he's shy but he certainly isn't. Bubbles, all the cages I've ever had have had the seed pots that attach from outside..do they not make them like that in Australia? My dad took the seed pictures because Holly was trying to climb INTO the pot, rather than eat...unfortunately he didn't manage to get any shots of him shoving himself in as far as he could, and he's not worked out that he's too big to fit in there so he doesn't do it anymore!
  11. okay, so I've finally gotten a few pictures of my new bird Holly. Some of you may or may not remember me being around here when I had my little yellowface type II boy, Smudge, who died very suddenly after only being with me for 5 months. Well...I went away on holiday and a few other things, and then got round to "just looking" in the local pet shop (not the one I bought Smudge from, that burnt down a week after I got Smudge - no animals were hurt I hasten to add). Well, when I was "just looking" this little 8 week old bundle of white feathers was singing it's little budgie heart out. I mention this to my parents, but didn't do anything...the next week when I went back, that little white fluffy was still there, still singing away...and about 15 minutes later was coming home with me! That was 4 weeks ago...Holly (The name Snowy was a bit too obvious, so with Xmas round the corner I decided to choose a festive name and Holly was the one that stuck!) now is hand tamed, loves to play finger wrestling and is happy and chirpy all day long. He had his first trip out of the cage last night...and stuck to me like glue bless him...he had a few flights around the room..he's got the art of flying down, its just landing he's got to perfect! Anyhow here He is...not the best photos, but you can see he is extremely white, and you can see his red eyes. I say he...I'm still not 100% sure..his cere does have a little bit of white around the nostrils, but the rest of it is so pinky/purple and smooth, plus he does poofy headed flirting with stuff like his cuttlefish and his toys..not sure anyone will really be able to tell me from these pictures.
  12. Such gorgeous birds! The one in the first picture called Dekota is absolutely stunning, I've no idea what colour that is, but such a beautiful bird
  13. I've not really been that active on here since the sudden death of my lovely little yellowface Smudge. I always knew another budgie would find its way into our house...after over 10 years with budgies, the house feels odd without them. I had been in the petshop last weekend and seen a very chirpy young bird singing away, stealing the show. When I went back this weekend, said bird was still there, again singing away...and well about 10 minutes later the little one was mine My 3rd feathered friend is an albino, white with pink/red eyes...a bit different to my previous two brightly coloured boys! I know it's harder to tell with albinos what sex they are...the cere is purplish pink, but there is a little white around the nostrils...from the singing and just general way of the little one, I think boy...but I'm prepared to be proved wrong once I've taken some decent pictures to post on here to show everyone!! And as for this new one's name, well, Snowy was just too obvious, so, seeing as he's an albino and it's getting near the festive season I thought a Christmassy name was in order, and he has been christened Holly...which makes him Budgie Holly :(Laughing out loud): He's been in full song all evening

If I didn't live halfway across the world I'd have your beautiful green baby birds...my first budgie was a normal green and he was an awesome friend and (if I do say so myself) extremely handsome...hooray for green!!

She's such a beautiful colour! I'd give her a tropical sounding name if she was mine...something like Lei or Paradise..or Pina (From Pina Colada, (Laughing out loud)!) ...such and unsual coloured girl deserves an unusual name I think
  16. Aww I love those little black spots!! I'd petition for a new budgie mutation...we could call them Polkas or Budgmations! Haha
  17. What a gorgeous trio! I love the boys' little light blue cheek patches, they stand out from that lovely soft grey colour.
  18. I guess different male budgies have different "humping preferences!" My first budgie Pip used to hump only things that were bright green or yellow (He was a normal green, so I don't know if he was after a lady the same colour as himself)...it's quite something to see a budgie try and mate with a tennis ball, believe me!!!
  19. Lovely pictures of them all flying! The second to last one is practically begging to have a little paracute added attached to Bluie! It really looks like he's *forgotten* to open his wings after leaping off the perch

The second picture of them preening in unision is fantastic!! I like Blinkie's face after having chucked the mirror onto the floor...a very budgie thing...*throw stuff off table, then look surprised..."how did that get down there, mum?*

Wonderful, your pictures made me smile! My first budgie also used the "I claim this food all for myself by standing on it" technique. I have a picture of him claiming a scone from my mum...he sat on her head, slid down her nose and onto the scone and started munching...needless to say she didn't want it after that!
  22. I love upside down budgies! I'm sure my first budgie Pip spent more time hanging upside down than being the right way up when he was in his cage, he even slept like it sometimes. Doesn't the blood go to their heads???

Wow that is absolutely fantastic! I love the little toy on top with the bird acting as a crow's, or should that be budgie's nest?! Your little bird must have a whale of a time

Looks like they're having heaps of fun....though I agree with all those birds the toys might not last too long. I sometimes think budgies need to be explained the difference between "play" and "destroy"!!

My goodness they are absolutely adorable!! Are you hand rearing them or just getting them used to being around people? Very, very cute indeed
