Sprout Your Own Seed
Every time I try to sprout my seeds, after a time I can smell that they've fermented (ie, a sweet alcohol sort of smell). Is that supposed to happen, and if I rinse thoroughly is it safe to eat?

Where's The Nearest Circus?
The following can only be described as "Ehn!" Uh oh *dangles* (...*plunk*) Phew. Time to rest. Milly sternly reminded me to tell everyone: she's still the cutest one in the family. See mum! I can pull stupid faces too! Nyaaah!

Where's The Nearest Circus?
I think I've caught myself a runaway! There's lots of photos so I split this up into two posts (hoping that's okay). I'm thinking "Squee" needs a name like Ninja (or Contorto the great ) I'm also fairly convinced I have a girl, because there is a faint paleness around the nostrils. Until she tells me otherwise, I'm going to stick with 'she.' Time for play! Look what I can do! "What are you doing, little one??" "You're going to get stuck. There's no way you could possibly-" :fear I'm fine mum! *chirrup* Now let's see if I can do that backwards... To be continued...

Crazy Baby Budgie!
Oh dear How cute! My little one (who I've had for three days now) is doing the exact same thing at the moment. She(/he) is currently tunnelling her way underneath the paper on the floor while upside down. She tires herself out, has a little rest for five minutes. Then goes back to trying to dig her way ou while upside down, squeezing herself into the gap between the food container and the wall, or getting herself into weird positions and the only way to get out of it is to drop the floor. A little nutter! None of my babies have ever done this before, I'd like to know if it's normal too. Shell, your birds are lovely

Little Newbie!
Thanks everyone The little one is settling in nicely. She's totally unafraid of anything. Came right up to the camera for a little peek before running off to entertain herself with little acrobatics. Here's what I mean. Warning: LOTS of photos ahead. Good morning. Let me look cute for a second before I go play. Whee! Look what I can do! Uh oh, now what? Ehn! Phew. Lemme rest up. Wha..? How the heck did I get myself in this position? okay... now I'm stuck. Lemme hang here for a sec while I figure out what to do. (blurry action that my mind can't even comprehend) Yay! Success! okay, I've sat still long enough for the human to take a photo of my cute little cere. Now let's see what other positions I can get stuck in... Yarr! *attack* Wha..?! Budgies know their limits right?? I'm hoping she knows how far she can go before she breaks something. I've never met a little bird with such energy! :budgiedance: Nyahhhh!!!

Little Newbie!
I set out to bring home a blue male budgie, but I couldn't pass this one up. She (have I assumed right?) was doing all kinds of amazing acrobatics at the store and looking like she was having a ball trying to flip herself so that she was hanging on the roof, but the right way up. SO cute! See her little green necklace? Help me name her? I thought maybe Squee since that was the first noise I made when I saw her Also, she's a dominant pied, right?

It Wasn't Me!

Request For Pictures
Hello everyone. I wasn't quite sure where to ask this, so I'm posting here. (Please move/delete as required.) I have an assignment for AHM (Animal Health and Management). I have to write a 4000 word essay based on a certain species of animal. Amazingly, I picked budgies :budgiedance: I've decided to do it guide style, and I would like to ask everyone if you can help by donating photos for me to use in the guide. It's a manual for beginners, about keeping budgies and especially breeding them. Please pm me if you can help out. I will of course give due credit (actually, a major part of the assignment is marked on being able to cite references properly). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time :bluebudgie: Oh and if anyone wants, I can upload it somewhere when it's all done. Thanks :oliveb: Glynnis

Fading Black
Something is weird is happening to my budgie. The black feather patterning on Milly's wings are fading more with each moult. Here's what I mean: Comparing last year with this year: Is this supposed to happen? I never worried about it before because she has been lively and well, no signs of sickness at all. But she is going through another moult right now: (Sorry about the quality) Black's almost gone Is it normal or not? I've never heard of it happening before. Could it be genetics like the Mottled budgie (see this site) or maybe she is sick?

Milly's Room
So the dye is supposed to run? Phew. Well, I'll go back to the store and check anyway before I put it in. Here it is: Una, I'm so sorry to hear about that! I'll make sure to cut off the tassles of any rope I get. Poor birdy. They run into trouble with the littlest things, don't they? Milly's settling in well, practising her perch-to-perch flapping, and attacking the new perches with glee

I'm Starting Vet School On Monday!
Yay a fellow bird vet in training! I'm a first year vet student. At Melbourne Uni the first year of science is compulsory before getting into vet (I did biomedical science). So this is my second year of uni. That's 5 years total just to get the title of "vet". Three and a half years to go :budgiedance: Plus the five years practice/three years further training to be recognised as a specialist. Oh dear, no wonder they are so hard to find! Yet I can't believe it's gone so fast already... There is SO much work. But I'm loving every second I get with the feathery ones (although, a lot less in dissection class. Yuck). I currently have a 4000 word essay due but I got to pick the topic which of course is..... BUDGIES! Hee hee Hope you're going well and working hard!

Milly's Room
Finally, I got Milly a decent sized cage. The tiny thing she lived in was breaking my heart more every day. Dimensions are roughly 30cmx40xcmx50cm and it cost $30. It was the biggest I could get without my mum insisting that it would take up too much room in the house . I hope it's okay for Milly.. she still gets free flight. At least she can turn around without crimping her tail. :budgiedance: Do you folks think it could be okay for two, if they get plenty of time out of the cage? Finally, some wing room! What's with this colour? Don't you know it doesn't match my eyes? Putting it the beak test. *gnaw* Something weird She's still my upside-down little baby. This cage was on display and there was a bird toy in it. It looked like one of the commercial ones I'd seen in the store: some plastic, rope and painted wood strung together. I thought I'd give it a clean since it was dusty from being displayed - and the water turned orange and yellow from the paint! Eep. Is it safe to put in with Milly, or should I just chuck it out? She seems infatuated with it already, even though I'm not letting her touch it.
