Another "what Will I Get?" Thread....
Just following up on these birds and their babies, of the six pairs, three have chicks, one is sitting on 5 eggs and the other 2 pairs didnt eventuate (lack of breeding cage space) Pair two have two live babies - who are just starting to feather up, one is a green bird the other blue neither are pied. Pair five(grey hen, lutino cock) have four live babies so far and mum is sitting on another 2 eggs from the clutch, due to hatch tomorrow and saturday, baby 1 ino, baby 2 non red eye, baby3 ino, baby 4 another non red eye. cant wait to see these ones feather up! Pair six - one baby from a total of 6 eggs he is stunning, a dilute cinnamon opaline in a pale pale green. So, I didnt get any fallows this time, or spangles but hopefullythe normals are good ones

Another "what Will I Get?" Thread....
I like to think of it as more like predicting the weather throwback; I for one wouldnt go driving in a convertable with the top down if there was a 90%chance of rain - just as I'd like to be prepared as to what budgies could be produced with what matings, space is limited here so if I can get an idea of what these pairings will produce then I can look further to the future of my flock. Another colour I would like to produce more of are greys, but grey being a gene I think I m on track with the pairings there. Actually in regards to the fallow, I have more than just the one fallow hen and a few of my birds should be split to fallow, so there will not be any need to put half sibling over half sibling there to produce further fallows - I'm trying my hardest to further my gene pool and not have too many related birds or pairings

Another "what Will I Get?" Thread....
Ultimately what I want is more fallows, spangles and some decent normals I guess I can be patient and wait and see what I get.... its a bit like christmas time though, and wanting to shake and feel the presents to guess what it is (not that I'm going to shake these presents lol!)

Another "what Will I Get?" Thread....
My Budgies have all decided its a good time to mate so I have heaps of pairs getting cosy and at least 5 laying (one not far off) - really interested in what I will likely get with these pairings, but I'm confusing myself with the combinations (I have never had so many hens go at once ) Pair one - dominant pied hen(green) and sky blue spangle cock. Pair two - same as above but darker. Pair three - normal green hen X light grey opaline cock. Pair four - cinnamon fallow (yellow) hen X cobalt violet opaline cock. Pair five - light grey hen X lutino cock. Pair six - normal green hen X dilute spangle (green) cock. Thanks to anyone who can help the colour calculators are doing my head in!

When Can I Start Handling Them?
I'm not sure if others would agree, but I have handled all of mine from hatching :yellowhead: although when they are newly hatched they are very awkward to hold. All of my babies have been very tame as a result and will land all over me while I am in the aviary!

Bella.
All three new babies are around 6 weeks old.

"mary"
Someone on another forum suggested Murray... sounds similar to Mary so we will try that on for size

Budgies Desperate To Breed !
Same story here Kaz, although most of the birds in my aviary have been bonking for days but no eggs yet! I had a cock trying it on with 2 different girls although he had already established a bond with one of them. The second hen is only 8 months old and I have plans for her later in the year - he isnt mister right for my plans! I seperated the hen that he had bonded with, and put her in a breeding cage - minus the nesting box though. Introduced the male, no worries - and no mating happening after keeping an eye on them all day. This morning I introduced the nest box and within ten minutes they were mating like there was no tomorrow! This carried on for about half an hour and happened again this afternoon

Bella.
She is a sweety. Although she wasnt one of the babies I chose, I am coming to love her. She *technically* belongs to miss6 who paid for her out of her pocket money

Mosaic
This is the third of our new babies, and we need help in naming her ( I *think* its a her!) I'm thinking Mosaic, but wont decide on anything until we have renamed "Mary" (the kids have tossed names around since Monday and they have included names like Helga : ) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/barb.../unnamed2-1.jpg Edited to add after much contemplating we as a family ahve agreed that this budgie is definately a "Mosaic" due to her markings and colours!

Bella.
My six year old daughter tells me I got the budgies mixed up in the other thread I started about my new babies, and I thought identifying them would be easier if they each had their own topic Sooo, introducing the "real" Bella http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/barb...0etc/Bella1.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/barb...0etc/bella2.jpg **photos have been changed to links as they were larger than our 450 by 450 requirements.

I'm not sure what you mean by a suffusion. The colour as best I can described is a light grey/green. Definate spangle markings, although they are a very feint greyish colour. Not sure if clearwing would apply though. The mother of Mary and the unnamed baby is a lutino and Dad a blue series (I am yet to see him) I know that the hen carries the spangle gene, as she is one of my babies from last year that I passed on and yes I think the unnamed bird is actually a yf2.

I'm actually buying them a bigger cage this afternoon, so will try for better photos in that cage - I had to get too close for the camera to focus or I'll just wait until they are a little tamer to try for better photos:)

New Additions To My Flock -
On Monday I welcomed three more beautiful babies to my flock. I'm not sure on colours, or even sex but I'm thinking they are girls???? Firstlyat the front, Bella, who has mottled cheek patches in dark purple/silver - which makes me think spangle- but does not have definate spangled wing markings??? She is pied. At the back is the unnamed bird and Mary. Next is Mary, colour unsure - thinking greygreen spangle - the head on the left belongs to the last bird http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/barb...ybudgies025.jpg We are still tossing around names for this last one, but she is the sweetest thing and Mary sister.

How Do I Fatten Up My New Budgies?
They are definately eating independantly, and Dad stopped feeding them a week or so ago. I have got the eggs boiling to make eggfood already I thought about adding a little HR mix as well, but wasnt sure whether that would add anything nutritious? Could it be they are underweight because Mum and Dad have started clutch no.2 and these babies are suffering because of that?

How Do I Fatten Up My New Budgies?
Yesterday I was given three beautiful 6 week old babies, two from the same clutch. On inspecting them I found the two of them to be very underweight. as they are only 6 weeks old I'd like to get them in top condition whilst they are in quarenteen before placing them in the main aviary. Suggestions? :feedbirds:

1st Pair - Angel And Ozzy
I'm very interested to see how they feather up Dave, and to see what others say about babies feet.
