  1. I got this from Terri's mutation game thread, and didn't want to confuse everyone there. I'll do that here. LOL, Nerwen what do you think of this? Sorry for the blur, my camera has been acting up. I need a new one. I've wondered about whether Sky carries the violet factor even though she is visually, no doubt-about-it, a skyblue. But look at her cheek patches. They are as dark as Arctic and Blueberry's, which I believe are violet skyblues. Sky carries a hint of purple coloring on her shoulders, just above the wing where the head bars come down to. What's up with that? Do you think she carries it? No kidding, compare hers to these:

They are beautiful! Kermit looks like a normal green, but her bars and wing markings are diluted to grey. It is such a pretty combination. Is she the one you think might be pied? I would say no, unless she has the pied spot on the back of her head (where there would be just yellow feathers instead of them having bars on them). The blues are a lovely shade too. Thanks for posting those up! Sorry to hear about Cheech, that must have been tough on you and Kermit.
  3. There's something silly I've been wondering about... I've been watching a lot of great budgie videos that people have posted, and it seems no one else's budgies sound like mine. I'm not exactly worried about it, but I find it a little unusual that, all things being relatively equal, that budgies don't have the same sound. Some are universal (the angry dolphin noise springs to mind, LOL) but I notice quite a variation in pitch between my birds and everyone elses. I know that when budgies flock together, eventually they acquire the same calls within the flock, and that explains some of it, but not all. I wouldn't think the differences would be so obvious. It is mostly pitch - it seems other budgies have a bit higher, lighter pitch than what I'm used to hearing with mine. Any ideas? Has anyone else watched budgie videos and thought, "wow they sound really different ..." Sometimes it's almost like a different species of bird.

Thanks for colour advice. I am enjoying looking at your website. Have four babies hatched out and all doing well. Two have feathers now, down on the body and yellow wing feathers..parents are a green and yellow pied ( if thats what she is called ) and father is a blue with cinnamon wings. All is well in the budgie cage  Bubblegum is a type two yellowface blue pied. Definitely. :fear What a stunner. Can we see some pictures of the pair that hatched the four chicks? Glad all is well there!

I agree. Good husbandry practices go a long way in keeping our birds healthy. Since they refuse to clean up after themselves :hap: we must do it for them.

I didn't know that. That is pretty old. I would hope they spend a lot of time with her and she is not alone much.

OH NO!!!!!! TERRI - Not the washers anyway!!!!! :hap: I wish I could teach mine not to throw food.....but since THAT will never happen, maybe they could learn how to run the sweeper??? Kyliepops, that is a cute picture. I can see she is ever so helpful.

:redalbino: But to send one large enough to get thick branches off would cost a fortune and if you only got a little baby one you'd have to wait YEARS before you could start making toys. Well that just stinks, Bea. Life can be so unfair.

So how did that visit to the vet go? Hopefully well. Can you update us?

Great toy! I wish you didn't live halfway 'round the world from me...it'd cost more to ship some of those to me than it would to buy "those expensive ones off the net", LOL. Can you maybe just send me a gum tree? If I planted one it would solve all those logistical problems... and my birds could have fresh euchy leaves too.

What happened with the baby? What colors did they all feather out to be?
  12. Happy Birthday Blinky! He is so cute. I can't believe he will go on the floor....

Just wait...soon he will be doing the same thing when he thinks you are not looking...... :hap:

I've bought the one with the banana shape on it before...several times before in fact. My birds would splinter the banana shape to shreds and ignore the rest of the toy. Once the banana was gone, they wouldn't have anything more to do with it. I think it was because the shape was easy for them to start on. The other shapes were round and square with rope on the bottom with a bell, and acrylic looking colored 'things' on it (for want of a better term he-he). Does that sound like the same thing you got? Do your's like it? Bea, I love your aviary. Hear it's been hot in Australia lately...is that why you hosed them down?
  16. He's beautiful! Such a soft, powdery blue color. He is obviously a dilute, but the blue is still a strong blue on my monitor. I wonder if his base is cobalt?
  17. sigh... He is just so cute.

Good to know Polly's is safe. They are readily available around me. Thanks everyone, for doing all this research and e-mailing the companies so we can all have good information and be able to make more informed choices regarding our birds. It's very much appreciated on my end!
  19. LOL!!!! He has you wrapped, Bea!!!! LOL!!!
  20. You found Cloud's twin!!!! See??? He's the one in the front! They are all beautiflu - I love the other blue pied you have with one white and one blue cheek flash...my Cloud's are like that too! Lucky you to be able to add to your flock!
  21. I absolutely love the color of Arkady. But they are all lovely! Thanks for sharing.
  22. TWO new toys for his birthday????? Sucker...... :fear :fear
  23. Rainbow replied to Bea's topic in Budgie Pictures
I like the cool photo of the three too! And I think I will always have a ready supply of your pictures, because what's today for you is tomorrow for me...even though it's not. LOL Keep posting them!
  24. LOL, Bea! When I saw that first picture my first thought was that Blinky sure is a beautiful bird... It's funny he will play with the plastic swing because whenever I put anything plastic in my birds cages, they unhook it from the top so it falls to the bottom of the cage. Usually within minutes. I think that's why you got the evil Blinky look - maybe he doesn't like things unless he can destroy them either!!!

Hello and welcome to the forums from me and my little flock. I can't wait for pictures either. :fear Two weeks really isn't all that long, so I'm sure your new friend is still settling in. :fear Just be patient - sometimes it takes months. So enjoy, look through the forums, and ask questions if you can't find what you're looking for. Congratulations on your pending addition too!
