How Close Is Too Close?
Yellowface is dominant to white face in blue series birds, so if you pair a yellowface to a whiteface, all babies should have yellow faces. If you pair two yellowfaces together, that is when you get a mixture of yellow and white faces. This is because if you pair a yw to a yw, the possible outcomes are yw (yellowface) ww(whiteface) and yy (doublefactor yellowface, which looks like a whiteface). There is no visual difference between a doublefactor yellowface and a whiteface blue bird. As far as (in)breeding, before making an informed decision about pairings, I think you should know the history of the birds back a generation or two at least. If not, then I would start out by making sure they are not related at all, as best as you can determine.

Let The Breeding Begin!
I think it depends upon how far into breeding condition she is in, as well as how bonded they are. If the bond is there, he will bring her into condition with his singing and attentions. I would say wait a minimum of three weeks, and if she has not investigated the box by then, take it out and wait a few weeks before re-introducing it. Daz, when mine were little the parents went nuts trying to get at fresh veggies to feed the babies. Rainbow used to fly into the kitchen when he heard the refrigerator open in hopes of some spinach and carrots. All were super-healthy when they fledged with very bright plumage for babies. Why do you say to stop feeding veggies when the eggs hatch? I had fantastic results from increasing the amount of veggies instead of removing them!

Hi! New Member's
How sad. I am very sorry for your loss. I know how difficult that can be. Do you know why the hen has never been able to fly? That is unusual. The babies should be okay. Normally the female doesn't feed much after about three weeks and the male takes over, but without him she should still feed them when they beg. It's possible some of the other birds you have may feed them a bit too, once the babies fledge. I don't think baby birds are too picky - if they are hungry they will probably beg food from any bird. :ausb: The older ones will sometimes feed the younger ones while they are still in the nest box too. But if you notice any problems, let us know. You have found the right place.

More Budgie Pictures
I thought China was a she when I bought the bird :ausb: but looks like a male to everyone else and was acting male earlier today. Hasn't picked a girl yet so time will tell They are all so beautiful. If I had that aviary I would be hard pressed to go to work or do anything remotely close to functional in society...I just want to get a chair, a nice cup of Earl Grey, and sit in the aviary and make bird toys while I watched them all day, LOL.

Hi! New Member's
Hello and welcome! Aren't baby budgies so very cute? It is tough to call the sex when they are as young as yours, but in a week you should begin to notice some differences in the shade of the cere and also the shape of it. I love the picture of your little one. If you have more, please post them in the Pictures section. I'd love to see all your birds.

What Am I?
HE HAS NORMAL DARK TAILFEATHERS!!! The normal tailfeathers rule out clearflight. I think the clearwing gene is in there somewhere. The greeny/yellow color across the back and on the chest could be a combination of the dilution and the type 2 YF factors. (See here for a similar effect.) He may be goldenface as the mask yellow is much deeper than anywhere else on him that I see. I don't really see greywing in him. I thought pied at first because of the difference in shade across his chest and near his legs, but can't really tell if he has the pied spot on the back of his head, even with your new pictures. Does he? Just trying to cover all the bases before I give my guess again. :ausb: I'll reserve judgement now until you tell me yes or no.

What Am I?
He's a pretty bird, that's what he is. My guess is type 2 yellowface dilute skyblue pied. Possibly cobalt instead of skyblue, can we see a picture of the back? I'm looking for the color on the rump between the flights. (you said it Bubbles, he's that type too! )

 I am sorry about the hen. I wish I had not said anything now. I hope I did not make you feel bad. But she was a beautiful budgie. He is so pretty from the front too! I just love the first picture! It's like he is looking at the camera and saying,"oh yeah, I'm handsome!" He may just give Blinky a run for the money on studliness, LOL. His mask looks like it is deeper than you usually see. He is such a pretty bird. And his sister is just as gorgeous! Think Bubblegum would like her when she gets a little older? Which bird is the YF DF violet? That sounds very pretty.

His shell markings are nice and dark against the white of his flights. He is a pretty budgie. How old is he? I'd love for you to post a picture of him from the front. But you know I am very biased towards pieds, so asking me whether to try for more pieds or not is a given. To keep the blues and grey (were his parents blue-based?) I would pair him up with a skyblue/cobalt/violet normal or another blue-series clearflight pied. Yellowface if you have a suitable one. In the picture of Goliath, is the bird in the back with the yellowface (same perch as Goliath) a hen? It is hard for me to tell with these eyes but that bird has a similar stance to Titan as well as a very nice head shape. Both birds have large spots too. Maybe post a closeup of that bird too. Oh yeah.

Cute video, Bea! Listening to Blinkie's noises always perks my budgies up, lol. It sounded like he said something towards the end of the video, but I couldn't quite make it out. Do you know what it was?
