  1. Its mostly because I work with glass and have glass on hand in my workshop that I think of using it  Being A LEADLIGHT artist and craftsperson
  2. Have hatched live twins before and its very rare that they make it to hatching. That egg looks like triplets or quads
  3. Waiting for some materials to arrive mid next week. Meantime I knocked up another couple of vertical breeding cages. Two units of three verticals......making 6 cages. as the cage fronts didnbt divide equally into the height of the vertical cabinets, I cut some glass for under each cage front.......slide it sideways for cleaning and adding food etc. Cuts down on some of the seed debris coming out the front.
  4. This is the reverse Matt.................the small egg pictured is NORMAL sized.
  5. If the cage was on its side there would be lots more high perches to choose from and room to get away from each other
  6. A "breeder "is GIVING AWAY a supposed cock bird. Chances are it may be male with testicular cancer. OR the breeder is very confused. Photos will help us to help you Cora
  7. Here is an egg from a nestbox........next to a normal sized egg for comparison OUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. not necessarily.........it also indicates a cock with testicular cancer. BUT cracked cere usually means hen. Thus the NEED for photos
  9. Thats the hassle with tall not wide cages.......perching space. Any way you could arrange that cage to stand on its side, so its wider rather than taller...............then you can fit a few more perches across it and there will be less competition for the top perch.
  10. Sounds female doesnt it Can you post a picture ? There is a how to post pictures link in my signature.
  11. How big is the cage and how is it set up ?
  12. Four babies
  13. When I got there last night at dark of night, Evie asked if we were going to the zoo or the farm places I have taken her before
  14. Birds should have a wide variety of foods all the time. I dont really suscribe to just giving certain foods for or prior to breeding. My birds get everything all the time
  15. Homemade Egg and Biscuit 2 ounces cornflour 1 pinch salt 2 tablespoons peanut oil 2 kilos self raising flour 6 eggs, beaten 4 fluid ounces water Mix all ingredients into a firm dough, roll out to fit a flat baking tray. Spray tray lightly with safe cooking oil spray. Cook in a moderate oven until pale brown. Allow to cool and than crush the cooked mixture in a blender until crumbled. Store in a airtight container and feed to birds as required. I have never made this recipe myself so cannot help, have you tried smaller quantities processed in a food processor ?
  16. Tomorrow the 11th.
  17. I leave the nesting materials pretty much alone until the chicks get to age 2-3 weeks and then I start adding seed so they learn to eat. I dont clean nestboxes out every few days at all...it isnt necessary
  18. She is gorgeous....not in the least spoilt or precocious...a terrific kid and very very intelligent too. I babysat tonight, so I had a great time with her Evie's favourite toys too Liv
  19. That is so excellent !!!! Tremendous effort. In my opinion you wont need a platform. You have a perch near the nestbox and if the nestbox also has a short perch just under the nestbox hole then thats all you will need. As great as that mesh looks I would not risk anything a bird may stick their leg through and be injured. I just made two more vertical units on wheels too. Mine have a 150mm sliding glass door under the cage front that allows me to slide it sideways and clean without disrupting the birds too much. I can also put the food in there using the glass door if I want. Stops a lot of seed debris coming out. Servicable but not as neat as yours
