  1. First chance to trial the plastic nestboxes. One only in the trial right now. I have another I might use as well.
  2. Youngest baby would seem to be a skyblue dilute not greywing ? others
  3. Thanks, So just to make sure; if I put some in a dish of water now and follow this schedule: After 8 hours - Drain After 2 hours - Rinse, then put in dish of water again After 2 hours - Drain, then serve in a dish Would that be okay? Good plan

I agree with all RIP has said
  5. What colour tail does this one have and by the way.........you can post bigger pictures here. 480 by 640 is our limit.
  6. Yes they are fine. You will have to soak them in water and rinse and drain off a couple of times over 12 hours before serving.
  7. Read this article http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en it tells you that baby budgies must be handled every day from the moment they hatch for varying reasons. This is a twice a day nestcheck and handling. If you havent done it up to now....why ? Handling them constantly will make a tame bird. I see no real reason to take chicks from their nest and begin handfeeding them if you handle them daily anyway. Constant interaction makes them a tame bird.
  8. and then there are the breeders who wont sell to you once you are winning on the bench.
  9. Good for you too, to find us, get on here and ask all the questions of people who can advise
  10. 360 birds Wow !!!! Big Auction
  11. Its a baby budgie thing........usually they do it in a seed dish and scoot the seed out all over the place.
  12. Would clear plexiglass work? Tin would definately spoil the look I'm going for. you posted while I was editing. Yes...clear is fine.
  13. You need tin or clear corrugated sheets up the sides of the aviary to at least 2 ft ( 60 cms ) high or more. But they can also come in at the roofline if they can get to your roof. no food hanging off aviary wire. All food in pedestals so mice cannot climb legs of feeding platforms.
  14. No point medicating when you havent a diagnosis yet.
  15. No new members So did their little meeting room run out of chairs
  16. we dont We ask about iris rings as a means of helping work out a bird, but as iris rings can be a little hit and miss in certain birds we dont use that only as the deciding factor. Its in combination with other things, markings etc.
  17. Your chicks all seem to have great feather. long masks, and wide brows......see you at the nationals with them real soon mate
  18. Funny how that poor little plucked chick that looked so scrappy turned into this
  19. His cere isnt torn...just blood on it. He seems okay and he fed the babies. She attacked him once before when he fed the chicks while she was still with him and she bloodied his wing and tore out some flights. He deserves better some of the chicks photos
  20. I think longer term the right number for that size cage would be 6-8. I have seen 37 crammed into a cage that size and the birds were getting fat and sick and dying.
  21. You will need to clean and scrub the cage and food bowls etc in case mice have been through. You will need to mouseproof the area. Mice can get through 10mm gaps and can run up brick walls. They can jump a couple of feet. The cage you have 19 in should only have around 9....so you need another cage.....not add them to the other cage as it has enough in too. Overcrowding as stated means stress and illness. There should never ever be one nestbox in a cage with 19 budgies....best no nestboxes at all in a community cage. Forget about the breeding plans till the birds are healthy again. You really need to know what you are dealing with as the adding of birds with no quarantine may have introduced psittacosis or coccidiosis to the flock. Both requiring differing treatments. Any sick with pooey bottoms need to be put in a cage with a heat source...warm lamp and medication appropriate to whatever ails them. Not a product a petshop tells you you need either. They know nothing. You need exact symptoms and diagnosis.
  22. Chances are real high you have some real problems. Mice.......... not just to do with open bag of seed but maybe going through the food in the cages making them sick.....mice can get through 10mm holes and cage bars. Introducing new birds to others with no quarantine you will have brought in diseases. Over crowding ...the tall and not very wide cage has too many in. Overcrowding also leads to stress and illness. Nestbox ..........MUST GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW !!!
  23. I threw the hen back into the aviary as she attacked the cock. Looks worse than it is He is back in with his chicks.
  24. Hi A few questions until we know more. 1. any draughts or sudden temperature drops where you are ? 2. Mice accessing cages and contaminating food ? 3. Damp and water introducing coccidiosis ? 4. Overcrowding meaning stress related illnesses ? 5. Nestboxes in there or not ? 6. Any new budgies added to the others with no seperate quarantine at all ? 7. any predators accessing the cages at night causing stress ? Not saying this is it or not casting aspersions ............. just if we have more info we can help you work it out. Any thoughts about taking any sick ones to the vet ?? Can you please post pictures of your setup to help us help you problem solve ?
